I get 10 cpl, spaces, headers, etc. as an employee. Sure ICs will get
offered more because you have to pay your own taxes and there are no benefits.  9 cpl isn't that good for an IC though.  It might be for a clinic count because they are more hum-drum accounts where you have the same doctors and can make lots of normals so you can get more lines, but if you are doing acute care it isn't a very good rate.  A good rate with mostly good dictators is hard to find these days.
Want to get paid for headers, footers and spaces?

Just in a silly mood....

Offered a position paying 9 cents per 65 line without spaces with headers and footers.

Is this a good deal?

I charge by 65-char line with spaces...sm

The two accounts I've worked on wanted 0.5 inch margins on both sides.  One of the accounts wants 10-point Times.  The other wants 12-point Times.  They want the margins so big because they are trying to save on their paper costs, because the sticky back paper (I think that's what they use) is apparently quite expensive.  I send the documents via e-mail for them to print on their own.  Anyway, charging for a 65-character line with spaces nets me more than a gross line because of the margins, font, and typeface.  Try it with your line counter.  I have one built into my Instant Text (which I don't use for invoices) and SylCount.  Both of them show that the gross line is quite a bit less when the margins are this big.

Why not charge for spaces?  You type 'em like you type a letter or number!

what kind of info are you looking for?
nm
What kind of info? (sm)

The biggest difference is you are paying your own taxes - including self-employment tax.  You're basically considered "self-employed" in the eyes of the IRS as an IC.  You can work under your social security number and name (i.e. no need for business license, etc.).  You (in theory) cannot be held to an actual schedule, although what a company requires and what you are willing to do plays a role there.  It's not much different than employee really, with the exception you're paying your own taxes.  You're paying yours and their share of your soc sec/medicare tax by way of self-employment tax.  Just keep that in mind in terms of pay you'll accept.

What to charge a physician group for transcription.
I was asked what I charge for picking up and dropping off. I don't want to quote too high a rate. I do, personally have a call-in dictation system they could use. I was thinking of charging 13 cents per line for the use of that, or 15 cents per line for paper and gas for drop off and pick up. I am in the Chicago area. Is that too high?

Thank you for your anticipated response.
This is just the kind of info I am looking for! Thanks for your time.

Per page rate for legal transcription - what should I charge?
I have only done medical transcription and we charge by the line, not by the page. I have been approached about legal transcription work for template documents such as wills, estate planning, etc. I have been asked what I charge per page...I live in the Northeast/Connecticut area. Can anyone advise me what the current rate per page would be?
That is kind of funny coming from a transcription
company - most don't care if you have a life, they just want the minutes done.
New to internet transcription, what kind of headset to use? sm
Where does it plug in and does it have one prong or two prongs?  Any info is appreciated.  What is the best for sound quality.  Can you use a subwoofer as an adapter for your speakers, or does it plug directly into the tower?
Oh, I hope you're right. The surgeon just gave her the info and kind of let her sit on it.
He didn't have time to go over it in a lot of detail. She tried to call back to have him give her more info., but he had left for the day and won't be back until Thursday. So, we'll see. Thanks for posting:)
Just did that kind of test for a transcription position about a month ago.
Interesting how they can tell whether you are qualified for a transcription position that requires you to listen to someone talking from a timed typing test where you type from a piece of paper. Urgh. Needless to say . . . I didn't get the job :(
Cy-Med and p.r.n. Transcription info

Before you get all hot under the collar as to why I posted this year...I posted this originally on the Company board but have had no responses thus far and need some input on these 2 companies from anyone out there who has worked there or has knowledge about them.  I would like to know how their platforms are, their cpl rates, enough work, and how the staff is to work with.  I did check archives but could not find anything recent posted regarding either one.  TIA.

Braille transcription? Anyone ever do this or know any info
I recently saw a course for this and was considering it in the future.  Just curious and thought I would throw it out there if any of you fellow MTs have ever done this or know anyone who has?   Always looking for something new to add to my MT.  Thanks
medical transcription info
I hope I am in the right place to receive some much needed help and information. I am interested in getting into the field of medical transcription by working from home. I am familiar with the medical field and terminology used as I was a licensed Resp. Tech for several years and worked in the hospital setting. I have also done data entry and paralegal work for a number of years.

What I am wondering is quite honestly how to go about finding a good job of this nature. As well as what online course would be best to take for this?

Also please be honest with me and tell me if it's worth it to take the course. I'm not looking for a lot of money but something is better than nothing and want to keep busy.
digital voice transcription info
I am looking for information on how to do something. I local doctor's office said that they use a handheld digital recorder and then the doctor downloads the file onto the computer and then emails it to the transcriptionist. HAs anybody done anything like this and what do I need to do this. What software, is there free software. Any information would be very helpful.

Thank you,

Lynn

Anyone have any info on Infoware Fusion transcription machine?
Hospital is switching from Lanier to Infoware's Fusion transcription equipment.  The records dept head is very confused.  With me at home I have no clue as to what is going on because I don't think she knows much more.  Anyway, I am suppose to go the hospital tomorrow for orientation.
Does anyone have any info on WinScribe Dictation System?? Not a transcription program but a digital

My line including spaces is 65 characters. I've heard that not counting spaces
takes away over 35% of your line count. I believe it too because you have at least 15 or so spaces on each line that you type. Use your first sentence up top as an example; you had 77 char and 21 spaces - in that line that would be a little less than 30% of your characters that you didn't get paid for. I don't think it's worth it and wouldn't want to work without getting credit for my spaces.
Charge what the credit card companies charge when they don't get paid on time!!!!

Audio hour charge - what is fair rate to charge company?

Doubt you can charge 15 cpl for VR work to the docs - you can't even charge them 12 for straight
x
They used to not pay for spaces, but a poster here said they are getting spaces paid. Are there 2
s
you don't have to charge $60/HR - all you have to do is charge a good rate and then..
work smart, not hard. If you have a great dictator, charge him 14 cpl on a 65 char gross line, then set up your templates and word expanders, you can make $80/hr. But you need all three to work together, otherwise you might only be making $60/hr. Some people are just really good at what they do - shouldn't they make more if they are more productive?
I'd still charge by line, just charge a lower
rate, like maybe 8 cpl.  Do you have to pickup and deliver work?    You could also setup a one-month contract until you see how it goes and then you can figure out the best way to charge and go from there.  You could also charge a flat rate per page and keep it fairly low.
One office I charge .12, another I charge $2.25 page--nm

without spaces compared to with spaces
10 cpl without spaces equals to how many cpl with spaces?
Spaces versus no spaces....

Can someone tell me how big of a difference it makes if a company pays for spaces versus no spaces.  I have only every been paid without spaces.  I have been offered a position that pays for spaces, but the cpl is less than I am making now.  I am not sure if getting paid for spaces will make up for the pay cut.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Help with fax headers please

Hi....does anyone know how to turn off the fax headers in MS Word?  I found out how to do it years ago and then I got a new computer and now I have tried and tried and cannot figure out how to do it!

Just to clarify, I'm talking about when you use the fax wizard function in MS Word to send a fax, and that header comes out at the top of each faxed page with the time and phone number of who sent the fax etc.  How do I get that off my outgoing faxes???? PLEASE HELP!

Headers
I have only been doing this for 11 months, so I do not know what it used to be like. I would have a suggestion regarding the headers. Use templates. If your company does not supply them, then you could make them up yourself, and you could also use an Expander for the headings. The other day I saw a job opening that stated you could do all reports in one document, but so far that has been the only one I have seen. I agree with lousy audio quality. I do not understand how come the MTSOs put up with the lousy quality and submit their MTs to it. I believe there needs to be much more done about the quality of the dictations, whether it is a fast dictator with loud background noise or just poor audio quality. So much more could be achieved by the American MT workforce if the quality of the dictations was better.
Rad Reports/headers, etc
As an IC, i have a great radiology account, and because my company did such a good job, turnaround, accuracy, etc. I was offered a neurophysiology account....something I had never done before.........However, having such a good medical terminology background, I was willing to give it a try (and they were desperate)...(ha ha),,,,Anyways, the reports are done in word,,,,and are not all that difficult as it turns out. The TIME CONSUMING part - was doing the headers - which we retrieve from the text files attached to the wav files,,,,,,,and each identifying piece of information has to be looked up and typed on a single line (15 lines total -before you get to the report),,,,,,,well I hired somone just to do the headers,,,,,,as it turned out.....I met with the company and proposed a 1.00/per header charge for these cases - which turned out to be an excellent idea. The girl that does the headers for me - is guaranteed x amount of money now,,,not just lines and I can sit right down and type the reports.....perhaps you could approach them with an idea like this?
headers and footers
I just read in the MPCount info that it does not count headers and footers. Is that a bad sign?
no headers paid
Dictaphone does not pay headers..that is why the line count is lower than you think.  Dictaphone has the HARDEST header to fill in too!!!  Amazing that they do that!
If you don't type any headers and
footers they deduct 25% from your TOTAL lines.  That is not fair.  They use the header/footer issue as an excuse.  The header/footers are NOT calculated in the total....BUT....they deduct anyway.  Beware!!  Also....ask how long before you get your first check.  If they don't tell you 6 weeks, they are not being honest.  That's what happened to me.  The supe will tell you one thing, accounting will tell you another, and the owner another, and so on .....Good Luck!
faxs headers sm
Make up your own, call it up and fill in the blanks, you must have one HIPAA compliant you can copys. Create your own document.
Not OP, but I get paid for headers and footers.

I would find it easier to add the headers myself--sm
and the reason why is because MOST of my docs do not follow any template order, even if it is THEIRS. they jump all over the place and I have to consequently do the same thing. I am paid for the headers, though, so that is okay, I guess. as far as patient demographics, I also put those in, when they are given, which is not all the time..sometimes the docs rely on past notes for that info and being one of many MTs, I don't always have that info available, which takes lines away from me, too. Perhaps the MTSOs think it is easier, but in some cases it is more time consuming. JMO
And most often headers, footers, & copies are not

most companies don't pay for headers, footers, cc. (nm)

If Word, headers are always spellchecked unless you
mark that text for no proofing in your language setting.
Headers/templates wrong
Anyone else have the problem of the proper headers/templates not coming up and wonder why the proper docs aren't informed and why we have to correct it by clicking and pasting?!
the properties stats still do not count headers.
Do a test to prove it. Type one word in the document and one word in the header and you will only see a count for the word in the body of the document.
