the show paid the $$$ but the defendant did not have to repay the show. Actually, my son hesitated about that point because he felt that the defendant should have to pay for their own negligence and mistakes and not someone else. But we talked about it a lot and in the end he decided he would rather have some reimbursement (he was guaranteed $500 for showing up whether or not he got a judgment) than to have the defendant try to learn a lesson that my son felt the defendant would never learn anyway.
It was really a neat experience. Everyone my son knew (friends and family) all either watched live or taped it and watched later. I'm glad he did it instead of going through the court, not just because he got the money quick but because it was a good experience.
