OOPS - put too much in subject line - let me try again
Hold down control key on keyboard then roll mouse wheel forward which will increase the font size. Roll the mouse wheel backwards to reduce the font size. This will also work on some web pages.
Oops, too long subject line, meant to say on the uncased tape.
We also had one or two real winners who taped things to the tape and then wondered why we couldn't get all the dictation done when the scotch tape tore the cassette tape. Oy vey.
here is a copy of a reply I made to someone else recently on the same subject sm

This post is mainly concentrating on ShortHand vs your autocorrect/autotext, but you can do anything in Instant Text that you can do in Shorthand.

The major difference is that Shorthand has unlimited storage for your entries. The last time I looked, I had over 20,000. Autotext will corrupt long before you reach that point.

You can have a suggestion window open while working in Shorthand, so if you can't remember the entire short form, you can enter as much as you know and hopefully you will see the entry in the suggestion window. it will show up to 9 entries at one time.

With Shorthand, you can do complex functions, like tell it to open a browser and go to a particular website, you can have it automatically open up your template and position your cursor exactly where you need to begin typing, you can enter "canned text" complete with Word fields and formatting, you can create pick lists for cases when a doctor always starts with the same sentence but then ends it differently, depending on the situation (the patient/he/she will come back and see me in one week/two weeks/six months for a followup).

There are so many possibilities of what you can do with Shorthand that you can't do with Autotext, and it is much safer and much easier to back up.

The main difference between Shorthand and IT is that with Instant Text you can do "continuations."  After you have IT compile your work to create new glossaries, it "reads" what you're typing and suggests what it thinks you will type next.  It's really cool.  Sometimes you wonder how it knew . . .

Please take some time to read up on the subject and....
...we can bring the discussion back up to a higher level. It's hard to discuss when the basic fund of knowledge isn't shared by all involved.
(how does one know that the Subject line has been exhausted?
If you defer the report to someone else, you are just calling even more attention to the sensitivity of the situation. If you type it yourself, it seems to me, you are then in control of whether the info is disseminated or not. ????
Make sure you use sm (see msg) or nm (no msg) in the subject line, too. nm

Hmmm? Well, the subject line made (sm)
absolutely no sense.  It's quite obvious that I am extremely frazzled right now.  I would love to go to bed, but I know that I need to get a head start on tomorrow, so I'm still typing away.
could you put NM (no message) on the subject line so we know there is noithing in there???

Personally, I post all in subject line so dont

When I copy my resume to the ads on the job board it gets all messed up, dates on the wrong line,
and I have to straighten it all back out again, so that the name of the hospital that I worked at is on the first line, then the dates worked there, etc.  My question is, do I need to straighten this out or does it just mess it up more for the person who is trying to print it out who receives it.  It is perfect when I copy it from MSword, but then when I paste it, it is messed up.  Should I straighten it out to look right because the place that is hiring will read it from that place that I copied it to or should I leave it the way it was originally because they will open it to a larger screen and it will appear normal again?!  I'm not sure which I should be doing so that the person on the other end gets a normal appearing resume!  Thanks for your help!
just read this...supposed to SMILIE face...oops again..

That is "web site" in post above. Also, Auto Copy add-on for Firefox will automatically copy
Auto Copy add-on for Firefox AUTOMATICALLY copies what you select (highlight) on a web site to the clipboard.

Then you can paste it in a document.

It just saves the step of right clicking and then clicking on "copy" to put something on the clipboard. Just select it, and it is on the clipboard.

It only works only on web sites-- only copies stuff you select on web sites, i.e. not in other documents.
Print a copy of the form on your printer, fill it out, copy and send it to your computer via fax may
Just a guess. Or print it, fill it out and fax it to her.
Part-time line count

I am a newbie and was wondering what some of your line counts are for part time on a daily basis or how many lines you are pulling in on a 5/6 day work week?

Thanks tons, CURIOUS

How do you copy your SH file to text - do you copy each dictionary separately? nm

The reality of the situation might be, Gloria, that no one is willing to pay your business more than the "going rate" because they just don't think you're worth it.

to the mean lady, have you ever read something on line
From one of your "friends", or even smiled at something someone said on line?  Thats an evoked response, so yes of course people can get hurt by comments on here.  It's happened to me too, forgive me for be human and having normal human emotions.  Maybe if I lock myself away and hate the rest of the world i'll turn to stone like you to where I feel nothing at all and actually enjoy watching others feel hurt.
You get paid for every line you read
and the corections you make. If there is only 1 correction to be made and the report has 100 lines, you get paid for 100 lines, according to the cpl agreed.

The number of corrections depend on a lot of things:

sound quality
VR software
platform
dictator
etc...

sorry, that first line should read AFTER a knee replacement. nm

I am paid fror QA by the line, I'm old and READ MORE
I used carbon paper and selectric and learned on a manual typewriter, but so what! What does that have to do with the fact that some MTs are rushing through their work and leaving it for QA to finish. QA is to check for quality, errors and blanks that an MT cannot get AFTER TRYING. Period. Now why is everyone getting so upset about that? If you are a lousy producer then don't get mad at QA LADY or me. We don't have time and it's not fair to us since we are paid by the line.
Just read whole thread. Yes. Working for a service is okay because line rates
actually have gone down. Just make sure they pay for spaces, headers, footers.

I just re-read his email and he said he paid 9 cpl per 55-char line! Must be offshore. sm
I'm going to bring up the offshore issue with him and HIPPA issue as well.  My OB/GYN just switched over to that practice to do just GYN and specialize in urological gyn, so they have my records too and I sure don't want them overseas.  Even if they don't want to hire me, that's fine and I'm not going to sales pitch him at all, but I don't want my records outsourced.
I do not copy to text. I copy the spf sm
file to a disk and save the whole thing there, update it occasionally.
Line rates in the Northeast - can anyone advise as to what the going rates are in the NE part of the
country? Specifically Connecticut. I want to make sure I am on target here. Thanks.
The easy part is making the decision to leave, the hard part is
actually doing it.  Been in your shoes and it took me a year and a half to leave after I had made the decision to do so.  It was the best thing I have ever done for myself and my girls.  I had family and friends and a counselor telling me what needed to be done and I knew what needed to be done but until I had the courage on my own to do it I stayed.  One day, we had an argument and he spit in my face and that was the last straw for me.  Even though it is something that I will NEVER forget, that day is also a day I will never forget because it is the day that I took my kids and left.  I am a single mom of 2 and have been single and supporting us for 5 years now.  I have been healing ever since and still am to this day.  You can do this.  I know that if I hadn't have left and I would have stayed one of us would be dead by now or both.
A gross line is anything on a line is a line. A line set at 65 characters means it sm
has 1-inch margins on each side. The maximum number of characters on that line would be 65 and that includes spaces. If there is 1 character on that line it is a line.

A standard 65-character line usually consists of 65 characters with spaces unless, of course, the employer does not pay for spaces and then it would be 65-characters without spaces.
Anything on the line makes up a line even if just one letter or number. Every line of print is a

Yes, I read your post, and I just re-read it, and I've copied and pasted for you in case

you've forgotten your own words! Your post above is 100% different "flavor" to it, now all positive and cheery! Your first post was 100% doom and gloom every which way, including "raining on your parade", and "if you want to go forward"...God, sounds like she's talking about jumping into oncoming traffic! Here is your quote:

My first boss (the one who hired me as a new grad) gave me some words of wisdom that I haven't forgotten. She said that transcribing at home with small children NEVER works under any circumstance. Either the work will suffer or the parenting will suffer.

****

How can the word "NEVER" in caps be interpreted in any positive way? You took about 8 paragraphs to cover every aspect and completely dash this poor woman's dream.  I'm not blind, I'm not talking about day care at all, I'm talking about the total negativity of your original post! You know exactly what I'm talking about, cause you added some sugar to your second version! And that's much nicer than the first!

While we are on subject, how about 1 and 1/4 cm. Is it 1.025?
