please rethink this...

In Reply to: MTs who aren't credentialed - sm

Perhaps you are in a better situation but for most MTs I know (myself included) the costs far outweigh the benefits. For the working Joe here, working for an MTSO in a pool of dictation daily, for me to invest the time and effort on the so-called CMT certification (I say so-called because non American workers are getting certified faster and for a LOT less money than it costs me) there is no justification whatsoever for the monetary cost. There is self-satisfaction, but I cannot afford that.

You mention noncredentialed do-nothing coworkers - but that comment alone shows me your credentials have only covered up the surface of something darker underneath. Peronally, I would rather work with those so-called "noncredentialed do-nothing coworkers" than someone with a certification but a very bad attitude. Just my opinion...

I believe many of us could easily pass the CMT tests without any problems (I have seen the test material, it is not rocket science, come on), but it is a matter of MONEY and whether or not the average working MT can really afford to not only get the CMT, but keep up with the financial committments expected from the organization.

If in the future the cert is required (as the organization is trying very hard to pass), in my belief if it only for the benefit of the organization and not really anyone else. Unless someone can prove to me otherwise, I am inclined to think perhaps we "noncredentialed do-nothing coworkers" may be the backbone of this (what used to be a) profession.

Something your credentials have not been able to do: As long as you have QA versus MT, in my opinion, there will never be unity, and when there is no unity you have what you have today, sweat shop and substandard working conditions for many MTs. Not all because PG there are a few very good companies left out there, but the majority from my own experience offer horrible working conditions...

The non American MTs are being sought after because they (at least for now) offer cheap labor and no fuss. Wait until that all changes and they start getting smarter and making more demands. Could backfire and they could unionize...? Perhaps we will be latching on to their coat-tails someday.

YIKES! I better rethink this.
I've read a bit about that on ebay that they will reimburse you for any down payment lost or if the car never arrives or is not in the condition represented in the auction, so I thought it might be a good deal. I'm just beginning my search. Thanks for responding!
rethink nursing
Went from MT to nurse in the 90s only back to MT because made more as MT.  Hopefully for you sake things have changed.  Wasted a lot of time getting my RN (plus got hepatits from a splash).  Not tryng to discourage you - you're young - go for it.
