you get it.

Sorry about the expansion question - I forgot your history of 15+ years in the biz and having been a teacher. Sounds like you could be a supervisor in a transcription department or be in sales for an MTSO or a TX equipment company, etc. if you live near a big city???

Does anyone else freak when work runs low?
We received an email a few days back discussing about a low workload. Also received another email for maybe increased workload on another account. I get nervous and ready to jump when this happens. It's a very bad time of year for this to happen (like any time is a good time). The work is great but the pay is on the low side, especially with my experience (21 years). I took this position some months ago at the referral of another MT I know, hoping this would be it, but I really don't think it is.

I have been browsing the job boards this morning, almost applying with another company, but something made me close the browser, thinking maybe I should hang tight for another week and see what happens.

Does anyone else do this? I'm really thinking I should maybe look elsewhere because I've always thought, work smart, not hard. This pay scale is just a bit too low at 7 cpl.
I just took 2 IC jobs, just in case one runs out of work
I have the other. I am starting with one that is great in NC (have friends there), and it does have the contract, but I contracted at the less amount so if I do more that is great and then I can get the bonus. The other one out of ME is also wonderful, and neither have restrictions on schedule just want to know about what you will do every couple of weeks and if you have something come up they are still flexible. After taking a week or so to decide, and seeing as well the notes on here about lay offs elsewhere, I decided to do the 2 IC, and also will probably volunteer at the local library, and sell on e bay last (too much work LOL). Good luck to you, but if you don't need benefits because someone else can provide them for your family, I'd personally go with the more flexible status than promise my whole life away to a large MTSO and then fear the threat of taking benefits away or sudden layoff. That is just me. And after a lot of thinking about what I personally value. My family and my paycheck to support my family. Good luck to you.!
The bottom line is if the work runs dry, then

It's not rocket science.

Previous reports, meaning another MTs work?
xx
You can also charge her with "filing a false report" with police.
The police offered us to do that against our neighbors because they call the cops on us any time we even have relatives over for our childrens' birthday parties. It's not like we get rowdy and drunk. We sit on the deck and eat food for two hours. Oh, dread.

Sue the wench in civil court. Call the police and ask them what you can charge her with.

Just as a note, Windows Media player will NOT work with a footpedal.

Unless there's some voodoo magic out there that I'm not aware of.

I just love it when our cat plops down on my note pads with my work notes....have to pull it all out

I think this falls under

Canada side is very kid friendly and a lot more to do than on NY side, although more expensive on Canada side with extra taxes on food and hotels.
I love how the AAMT BOS falls third to
1) the doctors/facilities, and 2) the service bosses!

I do believe they overrate themselves in this arena.

I so miss having just one crowd to please...

Part of the blame here falls on the dictator...SM
presuming, of course, that the report was cherrypicked because the dictator was an awful mushmouth/speedy Gonzales/etc.

IF THESE DICTATORS WOULD GET THEIR *&@$ING ACT TOGETHER AND DICTATE CLEARLY, cherrypicking would be much less of a problem. Of course, reports are cherrypicked for other reasons (specialty, length, etc.) but in my experience, it's the horrible dictators that are the problem here.
Niagara Falls is nice-- went their on our honeymoon- sm
stayed at Niagara-on-the-Lake in Canada, it is wine country, so I loved it (husband's a beer drinker though). Hoping to go back this year for our 10th anniversary in June, kids in tow though....stayed at a B&B though which was romantic and inexpensive (only had to eat dinner as we were so full from the breakfast every day) and it was great! So maybe a B&B at a place you would like to go to be together!
My average falls somewhere between 1800 to 2000 lpd and SM
that is in a strictly 8 hour day.  I try to maintain an 8 hour schedule, as if I had a full-time in-office job.  I think organization and adhering to a schedule is important for productivity, for me anyway.

I notice that my computer runs better when it is
shut down every night. If I leave it up for a couple of days, it starts acting sluggish. I do not think shutting it down wears on it. Plus, like the other poster said, you do leave yourself open for attack when always running if you have cable internet.
I think you either need to get a router that runs Win 98 or upgrade to XP nm

It is only easy if everything falls into place, i.e. good docs, repetition, macros/expander -sm
This is not the norm. I average 130-175 lph, so it would take me a bit longer than 3 hours to make $100 (I am only PT now so I don't make much more than $50 a day) , and as she would be starting out fresh at a new job, probably with a national doing nothing but ESL the odds are she won't be making $100 in 3 hours.
I use Avast...it updates almost every day and runs in the background....
all the time. If I get an email attachment within attachment from forwards, it checks all of them before I even open it. It's a free program, too.
I agree with you, but big business runs this country now,

Runs and fragments, my pet peeve with testing sm
I will be honest, I am not that well versed in which is which, but I know an incomplete sentence when I see one. The thing that tickles me is that the companies who make the most of knowing the difference will hand you a VERBATIM account. If you are an experienced MT, you tell me...verbatim means you type out all the sentences as you hear them...run ons, fragments and complete, regardless.

It is nice to have someone on board who really knows their stuff and I understand this. I think it is appropriate to test for things you know that an MT is going to encounter, rather than whether or not she can identify when her verbatim account is dictating in incomplete sentences. Appropriate use of a commas versus semicolons, knowing when to chain together disparate thoughts into one sentence and when to break it up, and knowing how to spell seem far more important to me.

I am in the middle of taking a test for a national company. They handed me 6 voice files, all over 3 minutes long, to transcribe as a test. Yes, they are going to take me over an hour because I have bronchitis right now (ugh I feel awful), but I consider this about the best way to assess my skills. It will give my perspective supervisor a valid way of seeing how I do things on the job.
I think you have your results already. Any MQ post runs like wildfire as a rule! You had
55 views on your last poll, and 1 respondent, who felt the opposite! No offense, but isn't that the answer to your poll? The older posted complaints on speed were that it was too fast at the lowest setting! And nobody ever argued with that!
Your taste runs to slender effeminate boys. That's the way it is and how Jude Law
makes a "living" as well as Justin Timberlake.  There are those who aren't attracted to manly men and enjoy seeing a pretty boy.  BTW, Toby Keith has some excellent tight jeans and long legs and I don't see doughboy but it is relative if you prefer the looks of Jude Law/Justin Timberlake/Leonardo DeCaprio.  And he appeared w/o his hat on many times.   Not bald by any stretch like Garth Brooks.  But having said that, Garth Brooks, dough-boy and balding was hot in his day.

No you wouldn't. You wouldn't like being required to work 7 days per week, mandatory, just like a sweat shop. Of course YOU can make huge amounts of money too if you work 18 hour days.
Of course, I should add that the previous pay was MQ and after the changes that

I have an HP...my previous one was also
an HP and I loved it. My main problem is getting sound to record. I have found that most of my programs work well with Vista. I did speak to HP today and they told me to uninstall sound card and reinstall but I have not tried it yet. They said if it did not work I would have to send it in :(
not this job, but previous one did.

Who was your previous employer? I'm more
interested in making "insane amounts of money" than if an employer is nice to me. That's my personal preference.

Mind telling me who your previous was?

Thx.
Given her previous behavior
she would probably accuse you of molesting her if you did try to hug her.
My previous HIM director was sm
a true psychowitch.  One day nice as pie and would give you the world. The next day, a bug would bite her and you would spend the next two weeks on all the garbage reports, worst ESL's.  I got out. She liked me but didn't like the fact that I didn't suck up or tattle.  She hid in a meeting on my last day of work.  I went on call but got so busy with my new job that I wasn't able to come in three times when she called so she fired me. How's that for being a witch. She had one other gal on call for a year that didn't come in when she was called and as far as I know, she is still on call. Go figure.

I did read all the previous posts, as you indicated. You did give a lot of information. I will let you know in a week or two what I think.

No the previous poster, but I have one...
I like this one. Not sure if you have it or not. The nice thing is that it covers all the states and you can do a sound a like search as well. If you don't find what you are looking for in the AMA results you can just click below the results on "View Non Members" and that will take you to another listing of physicians. I love this site.

Previous DQS uster
That would depend on the new program.  I went from DQS last November to MedRite XL and my count plumeted from 260 an hour to about 100 an hour the first few weeks, but keep in mind I was learning three new accounts at the time.  Right now I am at about 220 lines per hour unless I get five 10-minute ESL docs in a row.  Just a very cumbersome program.

"Pled" is an American term. The correct word is actually "pleaded."

Just went back to previous

job at a doctors practice for a lunch with past co-workers and friends... after that I'm always glad that I left for transcribing at home.  Love alot the people I worked with and even my bosses but hated the rest of the crap that goes with an office, every day a new crisis, etc.  When I'm feeling down about transcribing and all the junk that can get you bogged down at home, I just need to make a visit back to the old job site and it makes me realize how lucky I am... not that there aren't things that could be better in the MT at home world, but it sure beats what I would have still been doing if I didn't make the move home.  Just wish I could bring a few of my friends with me, but I was the only Transcriptionist in that bunch.   Just trying to keep smiling!

One of the ones in the previous post.
There in no guarantee with any of the options that you will have service everywhere you go.   If you travel mostly in major cities an air card might be an option.  The monthly fee is usually $60+ and I don't know if you have to sign a contract.   If you have to be connected to the internet all the time now to work (can't download work and then get off-line) then working in the car isn't going to be an option.
Per this and your previous posts, you have no

Sounds like you might as well be FT with those #s-- at a previous job the min. for PT was 5000
lines every 2 weeks.  Granted it got to a point where there was no work so it was impossible to meet quota, but if there was work you had better meet it.....then we had a landslide of work, about 90% ESL.....all the good stuff apparently went up in smoke  (they outsourced to the Phillipines).

I was being sarcastic about being called a "typist". After all, isn't patient care enhanced by ACCURATE and COMPLETE medical records? I would like to think I contribute, albeit modestly, to a patient's care. Don't you ever ask to see your records and check them for accuracy? Couldn't an omission or error result in a problem down the line? It HAS happened!

curious - to you and previous poster
Is there any particular reason why you would not want to use the computer they supply for their work and would rather use your own?  I am contemplating a similar job change, and thought I would use the computer the company supplies and keep my own for my personal use.  Less wear and tear on mine.  - no?
