you will notice that some of the jobs posted on the job seeker's board require a CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK!!! What do you think of that?  Still think it's a violation of your privacy?

pay for extensive criminal background check

Criminal background checks just verify that you are who you are for the most part. I do them for

a company and believe me, it is only checking that your SSN is yours.  It is not a credit check or anything else.  If you don't like it, don't work for a company that does it.  I did it and I don't care.  I have nothing to hide.  You have to give the companies your SSN anyhow if you work for them, so to me there is no big deal. You might miss out on a good company by not doing them though.

Has anyone ever done a background check?
Do you really get all the info that they say you can? If you have, where did you get it from? I'm trying to get some info on a spouse of a married friend who is acting REALLY weird right now.

Thanks
I think they should do a background check also. nm
nm
yes, they definitely do a background check. - sm
Look, if you were to work in a hospital, wouldn't you be required to have a drug screen and background check??? I have worked in 8 hospitals, and about 6 of them required that I have a drug screen and a background check.

I don't understand why "Desperado" got so worried about the whole "physical and drug screen and background check" statement with Diskriter. Hmmm... maybe she has something to hide.
background check
I am in school and want to know if a misdemeanor-disorderly conduct-from 11 years ago will affect me getting hired as an MT. Also I have a recent arrest(a year ago) but it was dismissed-DH and I fought and ended up being the one to go. They even sent me to victim's class. We have been to therapy, counseling, etc.  I am an A student and never had anything but good employment history. I am in school now and stressed out about whether this stuff will affect my job placement. Any advice?
Background check
Anybody know if Milner transcription out of Georgia does a background check?
Don't have to submit to background check, BUT

Sure, you can refuse a background check, but you won't get the job offer, either.  Rights or no rights, the employer still holds all the cards on this one.

some nationals do a background check - sm
I know for a fact that Diskriter does a background check. They do this because they are giving you a computer, as well as the fact that you are going to possibly be on accounts that give you access to patient information, i.e. SSN/insurance numbers, address, etc. This is, and has been, a fact that there have been transcriptionists that have committed identity theft in the past.
Hospital background check laws
Can someone tell me where I can find the hospital background check laws?  Looking for IL mainly.  Thanks.
they are charging you money to perform a background check ?
???
IL Health Care Worker Background Check Act

Type "225 ILCS 46/" in your search engine.  It should give you the Health Care Worker Background Check Act for Illinois.  There are several proposed amendments regarding non-fingerprint-based ID before the legislature for the 2007-2008 session.  I hope this is what you seek.

Violation
First of all, best wishes for a full recovery from your breast CA. Most of us have been in this MTs position in typing reports on people we know or work with. One thing to consider is that she probably was not the only one to see the report. Who faxed the report to the doctor? Who prints out the reports? I worked inhouse and have heard some inappropriate remarks made by non-MT personnel. In this case, the coworker may simply find herself in an awkward position. She also may just not know what to say to you. I have learned some tragic things through my work about people I knew, but because of the way I learned it could not discuss it, even with that person. Also, the MD I use is a client of the small MTSO I work for, so I always was aware that the MT saw my records, as well other office personnel involved in getting the records printed and to the physician. That is just part of working in the medical field.
Katrina criminal..
Sorry, I don't see your logic here. So, if 1 in 4 was a Katrina evacuee, that means 3 of the 4 were your homegrown criminals - right?
It's not a HIPAA violation for sure. Can you
have the account use digital recorders that are uploaded to your FTP site? Bypass the TASP entirely. Or if you are the only transcriptionist, you can use Bytescribe's E-shuttle. Check it out at bytescribe.com
I agree it's a violation. m
I mean, even if you have stellar credit, it still gives a whole lot of information.  I've seen my credit report so I know that any open loans, credit cards, etc. are all on there with limits, current balance, account numbers as would be your mortgage and the monthly amount you pay.  I have a student loan from 15 years ago and cc's from that long ago or longer as well that have been closed for over a decade that still linger.  I mean, it's just nobody's business unless you're applying for credit.  If you want a job, they should look at your job history.  If you want credit, look at your credit history.
Criminal History?

Can a person with a criminal history, felonies within the last 7 years, still work as an MT?

No you should not tell. I do believe it is a violation of privacy since you are doing the report.
The guy has to do what he has to do obviously to exist with his sorry self.
Criminal Justice Tech
How do you apply at this company?
really the only violation is if they hear it and use it in some way that hurts you...
people keep thinking HIPAA violation is just knowing it. It's not. It also has to be harmful to the patient in some way. Remember this whole thing started because some stu*id pharm tech came home and told her high school kid that Mr. So and So came in and got AIDS medicine, then her stu*id high school kid went to school and told other kids and that is how Mr. So and So's daughter found out her father has AIDS.
And wasn't it a violation for her to even ASK for the results from someone other than her doc? Th

Hi Becka ,

I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties. It sounds like this Robin person (I don't know anything about her other than what I have seen you post here) if these claims are true (I have no reason to doubt they are) is committing theft and fraud. Contacting  the Labor Board (federal and state) suggestion is a good idead , but if she is doing this across state lines (that is she is in one state and conducting business with people residing in other states) she is subject to criminal prosectuion by the federal government. I would suggest you go to the U.S. Attorney's office nearest you and see about filing a federal criminal complaint against here. Of course , you also have an avenue for recovery of wages owed you by here through the state / federal district courts , as well.

wouldn't this be HIPPA violation?
Just finished dictating an irritating doctor.  Thought he was dictating on his cell phone, but turns out he was dictating on an airplane.  Wouldn't that be a HIPPA violation?
Yeah and I think a cellphone is violation myself sm
I do plenty of QA and I note the cellphone usage for the client because of the numerous cutouts, static, distortions and other things that make it impossible to hear.

It may not be a HIPAA violation, but by golly it SHOULD BE.
the problem is that this is a violation of privacy
Hope you don't think it is okay to have your family members looking in on your computer while you are working!!
Cool! My DS has a BS in criminal justice and my DH is an attorney!

It's putting criminal data into the computer and

no ESLs to listen to!

Gee, thanks for calling me a dumb trashy criminal when you don't
I'm sure all the men and women with tattoos who are serving our country would appreciate your comment also.
Sorry, but major HIPPA violation to "keep a
little file...that's a HUGE industry NO-NO. Talk about lawsuits and professionalism!
She obviously told someone who warned her of the violation and now she is hiding....

PHYSICIAN SUED FOR DELIBERATE HIPPA VIOLATION

Anyone know what the penalties are for docs violating HIPPA?   I know of a case where a person was damaged from a new nonsurgical cosmetic procedure and about to settle with a company to pay for the surgical repair.  Prior to the settlement this patient saw a physician who sells these same nonsurgical services with a possible financial interest in the company.  This physician filled the patient's face full of temporary cosmetic fillers to cover the damage and then WITHOUT THE PATIENT'S PERMISSION released the patient's records to the company and wrote a letter stating there was nothing wrong with the patient.  The company subsequently canceled the pending deal to pay for the damages.   The temporary fillers wore off and the damage returned and this patient is now suing the company AND ALSO  the physician that released her records.  This physician has caused an already traumatized patient much more stress (a subsequent long legal battle) from this HIPPA violation.   What are the penalties?   Any criminal charges?

Thanks!!!

Let me get this straight. It is a copyright violation punishable if you copy and paste an article
but it is not a copyright violation if you copy and paste the link to the article? What the h*ll is the big deal?
you don't go shooting off your mouth calling citizens corrupt and criminal in a country you are visi
and you felt was okay to send you daughter to go to so she could drink at the age of 18. NO ONE WITH COMMON SENSE WOULD OFFEND THOSE SHE WAS EXPECTING HELP FROM. Mrs. Twitty has clean lost her mind if there ever was one there in the first place - considering she sent her daughter to Aruba at the age of 18.
So you felt the need to be at the top?

Let me give you a little advice and that is find a hobby.  I like to read, swim, and go to the beach.  Do you have anything that you do for fun?  Defending yourself now is a little too late after the original post of bashing MTs and categorizing.  A lot of us really do not feel compelled to post our education, years of experience, etc. to feel above all.  The answer to not wanting to deal with MTs really is as the other poster states to quit.  Why not just try MTing again, it may boost your energy level, and you won't feel like you have to deal with the MTs you speak of in your OP from the other day.  If you are not new to this board, then you should already know that any QA that posts here usually gets a backlash because they almost always come off as greater than thou.  Good luck to you, and I do hope you find your way soon.

So, you would have felt safer...
with Saddam in power?  Try to think beyond the simple.  Have a bigger vision.  Please, give me solutions to this problem.  How would you propose we defeat Islamic radicalism?  There are those who saw this coming 20+ years ago.  The 10+ years leading up to WWII were similar.  Europe chose to ignore the Nazi thread, hoping it wouldn't touch them.  This isn't going away.  It has to be changed fundamentally.  You want to put out fires, and there are those who want to clear the brush and prevent the fire.
We felt that way about our house, too.
I absolutely hated living here because it was older, shabby and way too small for us. However, we've been working on it for the past year a little bit at a time. We're regulars at the hardware store now. The only big thing we did was to build an addition on the back of it because we came into some cash, but we've doubled the value of the house. You don't have to be that drastic, but a nice coat of paint and some reorganizing does wonders.

I hated renting. It was overpriced, the landlords were unreasonable, and we were always stuck with 6-12 month contracts.
Got it thanks all - felt so dumb and my
teenager wasn't home.
That is exactly how I felt until several years ago
I started reading books on Buddhism and Hinduism.... I grew up in a very strict Pentecost church. I hated religion then. I believe in my heart that God simply wants us to have faith and to believe in his existence, and in loving one another and caring about all that he created. I believe in my own personal opinion that he would be very disapproving of the division in religion.. I don't believe this is what he intended.

Great books to read if you are intersted.. send an e-mail .
There are enough changes I felt it was worth it.
Can't list all the changes - but as in any profession - things change.
And to think....I actually felt bad when they banned me...
I just used a different email, but then I was very careful and didn't post a lot of things I wanted to say for fear of being banned again. ->sap<-
Absolutely. Felt this way for a while. The only way out of this
type of thing right now at least for me (I decided recently) was to find the most honest (well let's say that is 97% honest) on the line counting, the best benefits, and those who know me by name, where there is always work and where I do not have to worry Big Brother is over my shoulder. There are several MTs on my account making 1500 to 2K lines a day, so it is possible to get the kind of money we used to including the incentive... at least a big percentage. I found this after realizing the hospitals by me outsourced overseas, no more onsite hospital job for me, and after working for 1 giant MTSO and cheated, 1 little MTSO and cheated (for 2 years I might add), and then trying out a handful of positions last fall. Finally got the place I mentioned above and I am holding on tight. BTW: I wanted to work for Michael's arts and crafts and get out of the house, but guess what I was under and over qualified! Plus with the price of gas and clothes these days, (and daycare) this MT gig still beats going into the workforce at least for me.
So using me as an example:
1. you are not alone.
2. put your priorities on paper and
3. you have to go through a lot of trying out first-hand different places and situations and find what fits you best. It will never be 100%, but it beats sitting on a low line count and having high BP. Good luck to you!
I felt the same way but in 1980,
when I got into the world of MT. I had HIGH hopes that this was a smart career move for me. Unfortunately, when we were let go by the hospitals in the late 1980's to work at home for MTSO's, that is when our respect and low wages began. I do not blame the MTSO's, however, as I do know the lowest bidder gets the hospital accounts. The hospitals do not care that much about quality; they mainly want a low rate and a fast turnaround. Sad but true. The MTSO's do not have a fast track to wealth. I think the ones making the big bucks are those who sell the MT course and promise the moon!
I tried that, but I could not function. I felt
dizzy and had a headache all the time.  I'm wearing bifocal glasses right now and I have never adjusted to them either.  Last doctor suggested I just get monofocal contacts and get readers at the drugstore.
I always felt like it was a support position

and would, if it was appropriate, perhaps give hints on how I use my macros to avoid that particular pitfall, so I was not just handing them what was wrong, but was actively working on helping out with tools, instead of just citicism.  Some folks dig it, some not so much.

Yes, I made that statement because that's how I felt after
dealing with the public all day long.  I'll readily admit that I'm an introverted personality.  I get exhausted after being around a lot of people and chaos, which is what my outside the home job was.  That's why I chose to isolate myself then.  Now, however, after working at home all day, the last thing I want to do is to be isolated in the evenings and on weekends.  That's why my social life is better now than it used to be.  That's all I was saying.  I know there are MTs out there who work home alone all day and spend most of their free time alone, too.  That's doesn't have to be the case.
Should be felt like saying that. It has been a very long day at the keyboard.
:
You've got that right... If only my joints felt...

like they did when I was 9.  For what reason could a normal healthy child need chiropractic care?  My kids are around that age and they sit on the floor, sleep on the floor at sleepovers, jump up in 2 seconds off the floor, and feel like a million bucks in that department.

I once saw a show about a chiropractor who was rounding up kids from housing projects (with the permission from their not-so-bright parents), letting them hvae cookies and milk, and then bussing them all back home.  They guy was billing Medicaid and raking in millions in fraudulent money.  Sounds to me like this woman is doing something similar and pocketing the money.

Not sure exactly kind of just knew, he's the only one I have ever felt that way about - sm
I was 29 and had had a few long-term relationships already so all I can say is it was a different feeling. I'd pin it down to after 1 month of dating, we were at the Preakness, he was a little drunk and telling me how much he loved me (first time), etc. Kind of a magic moment believe it or not....got engaged 4 months later, and married 10 months after that. Been together over 10 years now, married 9.5.
