My experience is that clinic notes are the way to make money these days in MT, unless you are lucky enough to be able to find a hospital or doctor's office to hire you at home with a decent rate and bennies (esp. 401-K) -- few and far between, it seems.

Anyway, with most of the ads I see, there is not much difference in line rate for acute care versus clinic work (some do pay better than others, but in both clinic and acute care), but the clinic work is much more repetitive and you have the same doctors all the time, so even if you are making 1-2 cpl less, you can crank out more lines in less time and thus make more money per hour. If you decide you want to deal with the hassles involved, you can also get your own accounts and make even better money.

Thank you! I'm transitioning! ;)

Transitioning to EMR...
Does not automatically mean the end of traditional transcription.  People, please go and research what EMR (electronic medical record) is before getting so worked up about it.  Transitioning to EMR is a positive step for this country as a whole.  Is it possible that it may affect transcription?  Yes, that is always a possibility, but, it is not automatic.  We really need to educate ourselves.  Technology is passing us by.
transitioning to word2003...sm

I have been working an account that uses Word97, but two others use 2003 and feel that this is causing the conflict on my puter.  I want to transition my word97 forms into 2003.  Was just wondering if there is a lot of difference in the two programs?

any suggestions on this?
