Has anyone worked for state prison?

Am aware of a state prison hiring MTs.  Wondering what type of pre employment testing is required.

    Thanks!

Prison systems in this state use in-house MTs, I am almost certain of.

Each state has different laws. Where I live, if I have clients in the same state I live in, yes I ne
have clients from another state, no I do not need a license. Every state is different. I checked with my attorney and the State Business offices.
What state do you live in?
Here in Texas, all they ever do is talk about it, never do it.
What state do you live in?

what state do u live in?
and the clerks sort the mail. i've never heard of that before. maybe its different in the larger states?
    don't know what state U live in....nm

Did you ever say which state you live in?
You are making remarks that a breast exam required for driver's license and yet you have not stated which state. Something screwy here.
Congratulations!! What state do you live in?
    Sounds like a great job
I wonder if the state where you live offers
In Georgia they do have this, and a person who is convicted of a felony and completes the sentence requirements then has their rights restored, such as voting and the ability to officially answer "No" when asked about a felony conviction. Supposedly the information would not be available to a potential employer and most others, though I believe some are still privy to the information.
It depends on the state. In NC where I live,
you must be legally separated for a year before you can get a divorce. The legal separation is treated like a divorce though, so anything accrued by either party after the separation papers are signed are not considered marital property. I think she may want to obtain a second opinion just to be on the safe side.
I live in Washington state up in

    the Cascade mountains.

The only AC I have on is a small wall unit in my office when I type, but don't really need it very much.  Everybody wants to move up here.  Yikes, housing prices going up because of that.  I have a 1650 square foot house, 4 bedrooms, not too big, not too small.  Just hubby, 2 dogs and myself.  No water bill because we are on our own well.  No sewer bill because we are on a septic.  Use propane for the water heater and heat in the winter, about $500 bucks gives me half a tank, but that lasts us almost a whole year.   We don't use the central heat very much in the winter, just wall units.  Also, thinking of putting in a wood stove for heat.

what state you live in Pammie? Sometimes sm
things need to be worded differently depending on the laws of your state.
where do you live jason (state is fine)
    nm
Live in big city, 2+ million, with state pen and fed pen
as well as county jails located here.
I live approx. 25 min. from a state capital (rather not say), but seems everywhere you go - sm
around my area whether it be a Subway chain restaurant, small corner convenient store, etc., these are all being run by foreigners (mainly Indian). I really do not want to come across discriminatory, but I know man U.S. born citizens who cannot get the financial backing to start a business. Why shouldn't we come first?
NO - common sense does not dictate that, the STATE in which you live does!
In my state, NO I do not have to have a business license unless I have clients in my state, which I do not. So, therefore, I do not have to have a license! I have checked with my attorney, my state office, and my State Representative to be sure I was receiving the correct answers and all said the same thing!

So, my advice to anyone asking is contact your State office.
It all depends on what state you live in and what their laws and requirements are. Check with your

I live in Washington state and the health department posted it on the internet.
Here is the link to the information for this state, but every state probably has the same thing.

US MTs can be prosecuted ...

... citizens of foreign nations are not beholden to the laws of the USA.

    That is the difference.

I'm shocked that they are still in business. Why haven't they been prosecuted and/or shut dow
    nm
Yes - she was in jail for this activity I believe in April -

Administrator knows about her and just last week pulled a post she placed for a C phone.  I think we just need to get her name out there so people are aware of what's going on.

I'll never understand this. I'd be UNDER the jail if I tried anything half as SM
underhanded as what they do. They could keep you working for years and say you've "not quite got it" and get all that free work!
When he is in jail for DUI and paying child support for a
I agree that you have to let them go, but not before they are at least 18! Teach them right from wrong until then and maybe they will know to use their head by then. I am sorry, but teenage hormones and peer pressure are too much for the average teen to handle!!
    prison job
What part of the middle of nowhere is this place? I know that some California State jobs pay 3500/month.
    Prison Job
    I guess it depends....

Did you feel safe there? Are you out of the loop and protected?
Could you live on that salary?
At your age, I would think a job with the state would be good job security, most likely if it faded out they would put you on something else and they usually have great benefits and perks to being an employee. I liked the idea of the poster below on holding off on selling your home and maybe renting a room or something there to see if you actually like the job before taking on such a big step. If it ends up not being for you, you still have your home and there are plenty of jobs out there! Write out the pros and cons on a sheet of paper and weigh your options. Good luck to you! Follow your heart more than your head to be truly happy. :)
    The prison's employees
Pardon my ignorance. I'm still confused. What does the prison system have to do with transcription?  Why would the prison system hire transcriptionists to work in a facility as a transcriptionist??
No way would I work at a prison
No amount of $$$ is worth working in a prison.
a lot of them leave prison and go to halfway

Was he up on state or federal charges, because they are different.   When my ex got out he had to go to a halfway house first for 6 months and was under house arrest for 2 years and parole for 5.  Parole is very serious too.  Good luck on this.

    Talk about debtors prison...

Who would have ever thought in this great country you would not be able to work unless you, well, do not need to work...

Anyway, in my searches for a way to make more money I came across this information.

    http://www.vipdesk.com/info/careers_baopenhouse_faq.asp

This really appealed to me only I would never pass the credit check but I thought I would pass it on...If anyone is interested in still working at home but perhaps getting out of MT, or even supplementing your income this seems like such a great job -

Ever wonder when you call and order a product over the phone and it is some type of a call center how the people get these jobs?  This explains how  you can get those jobs and it sounds like an interesting field to work in...

Unfortunately, the credit check is pretty extensive and you need a very high credit score to qualify for a job but anyone out there with a nice phone voice who likes to work at home but is not making enough money with MT, perhaps you should check this out...

Me too, but also looking forward to 24 and that prison show sounds

the prison transcription thing was squashed before it even got started = sm
At least it was in Florida. Once it made the news, I think people were quick to call around and make sure that it never took off. I, for one, am thankful for that.

Let's face it, if you are a Transcriptionist typing for a service at home, you can have access to all sorts of medical information. Take for instance celebrities. Think about this - what if a celebrity went into the hospital for "rest" according to their publicist. And a transcriptionist typing for that particular hospital through a transcription service transcribes the records on this particular celebrity, and certain information was dictated, i.e. "patient drinks 5 alcoholic beverages a day. Patient needs to start her day with such and such a drug." I could go on and on. Do you realize what a transcriptionist could do with that kind of information - sell it to the tabloids, call up People magazine, get Victoria Gotti on the phone ... blah blah blah $ $ $

Think about it. It can happen.
A lot of mail order folks you talk to are in prison.

I think the parents should be held
responsible. I'm sure the rules are less strict for older kids (he is 16). But it seems a waste of time for the teachers if he is going to only show up part of the every week. He seems to think it is funny that he has really, really bad grades. Seems he is just wasting a spot at school and the teacher's time.
    They held my return
They held my return as the name on the W2 did not match my SS#.  Had to change it.   Also with all of the problems with illegals it might even be tighter now.  Good luck, why don't you just change it???
At my place we are held to the same
rules like applies for most, having to keep and maintain a high score of 97-98%, reports pulled 4-5x a year to check and we are graded so the answer to your question would be no, not just the bigger issues. Fast forward audio means I keep my audio at the fastest speed I can always, only slowing down to hear something I might not hear well. I do not use hot keys, only the mouse, was told others could edit more but that would be teaching an old dog new tricks. I really do not have any secrets, type straight really fast and I have for years, and still keep an hr by hr line count just to see how I am doing.
That is an opinion and the same view could be held
by MQLover and others who support MQ.

Rude and offensive are opinions...what some find rude and offensive others don't.

Apparently, everyone who complains about MQ doesn't find their posts rude and offensive, do they? No. So from their perspective, they aren't doing anything wrong but venting.

Same with MQLover. I don't personally care for her style but she and a few of the others are venting. It is their opinion. They aren't using foul language, which can be objectively judged and banned.

It's a matter of choice as to whether you want to read the posts or not. I think it is a reflection of how those supporting MQ really feel about those who constantly complain about it.

By the way, one of the posters in an above thread has found the perfect MQ complaint forum! It's called the Employee Complaint Form on QNet! Please use it if you have a problem with MQ!

If this is Spheris, they said the gifts were held up in

I have a Goldtouch. It has held up for two or three years already. nm

Are you held to a standard of lines per day.
If so, what is that standard.  We have 1200 lines a day or 150 lines an hour.  Is this the average out there?
Work for a company in a state that has no state income tax
I think there are 3 or 4 out there (Florida, Texas, and a few others.)  Then you really avoid the tax situation.
I held down the clear button and the screen
cleared, but the program button will not work still...no buttons do. Maybe in another day it will dry out, but I need to work today. :(

Thank you for the help though!
ah yes, the hand-held recorder is portable.

    Hand-held digital recorders. sm
Does anyone have anything to say about any particular model?  I am thinking along the lines of Olympus or Philips.  Thinking a docking device best.   Any comments?  Thanks!
I have held all the positions I mentioned without having an RHIT.
She was asking for ideas. I gave her some.

Maybe it was tough for you but it doesn't have to be for her. :)

Two questions: 1) What hand-held recorder do

voice files from their recorder to an FTP site or whatever to be transcribed?  Does the doctor merely have to set his recorder on a docking station and the files are automatically transferred?  I've only had doctors calling in by phone in the past, never using hand-helds.

I've seen hand-helds for $100 and also for $500.  Just wanting a recommendation for a good recorder that is very easy for the doctor to use.  If it's not easier than calling in, he won't go for it.

Being held to 5 reports a day is just crazy anyway! You learn by doing! nm

    Hand-held digital recorder
No, you have it all wrong. I need the hand-held recorder in order to dictate passages for a novel to be transcribed at a later date/point in time. I have the player software, but need a hand-held recorder.
why no, i don't live in snobville. did you think you knew me? i live in heritage hills a suburb
it takes a little longer to get to work and shopping but thank god i have some privacy and am away from the congestion.  lovely trees and lakes all around.  maybe about 20 minutes to a large shopping mall.  but no, i don't even know where snobville is.
Many co. use Canadian MTs. There are also many accounts in Canada held by U.S. MTSOs

I held both of my parents as they died from complications of smoking.
I told my children they were free to smoke after they did the same. There's not one smoker among my extensive circle of friends and associates, thank goodness.
