what version of Word do you have? Here's a link for Word 2002 -sm

This looks like a long and drawn out thing to do, but it's not that hard really.

When I did it, I checked and found that I had the support template already in the folder, so I was able to skip down to "Back up your AutoCorrect entries on source computer." It's named support.dot and is found here:

C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice10Macros

Just following the instructions closely, it was really easy.

If you don't have Word 2002, I think there are other methods avaialable.

Here's the link:

Works is a dumbed down version of Word and Excel. You get the full version of Word in the Suite.
The Works Suite is a cheaper way of getting a full version of Word if you don't want or need the other applications in Office.
Can you transfer them from Word 2002 to Word 2003?
I was able to transfer mine from one computer to another when I had Word 2002 on both of them.  Now I have a new computer with Word 2003, and have not been able to do it.  The autocorrect has a different file name.
Word 2007, Word 2002, or 2003
How many transcriptionists have switched to these versions of Word?  I am still using Word 2000, and it works well for me, but have been offered job with a company that uses Word 2007, and another company that will let you use Word 2002 or 2003.  I am fighting this and am at the point where I just might not accept a new job because of this change.  I can't imagine why they would want to change from Word 2000.  Your opinions, please.  Thank you.

I ordered an OEM version of MS Works Suite 2004 from an online discount software distributor, and it came with it. I had MS Word 2000 that was corrupted. I do not remember the name of the distributor, but I think it started with a V. I think I typed in "discount software" or "cheap software" and that came up. Word 2002 also comes in Works Suite 2005, as that was on a new computer I bought.
Word 2002 help
I have a problem that's driving me crazy.  When typing in Word, it will automatically capitalize the beginning of a new sentence, EXCEPT when the prior sentence ends in a number.  Does anyone know how to change this so that it will capitalize a new sentence following a number?  TIA
Help with my Word 2002

I do not know what I did, but everytime I type b.i.d., my word automatically capitalizes the I so it looks like b.I.d.  It is such a pain because I have to go back and fix it.  does any know what I did to change this?  and how can I fix it?  thanks.

Where can I get Microsoft Word 2002? sm

Is there a place on-line where I can purchase it and download it?  If not, where can I get a good deal on it?  I need it ASAP!

Thanks

I bought OEM MS Word 2002 for cheap too! (nm)

Sorry about that, I am using Word 2002! Thanks for the info about the key assigments. sm
I did try searching for help in the office assistant and didn't really get much help. It always seems that there are other people out there who are sooo incredibly proficient at Word that it amazes me. I have only been using Word for about 6 to 7 months now, after using WP5.1 for about 4 years. Thanks
Word 2002 versus 2003
I use 2003, is there a huge difference?  Is 2002 more user friendly or is that just the one you are required to have?
Word 2003 or 2000 or 2002?
Hi y'all. I have to change from WOrd 97 to Word 2003 or 2000 or 2002?

Do y'all have a FAVORITE, and can you tell me WHY? Just a short email would do it and would be so appreciated here.

Thanks everyone for input. I really appreciate it. I'm using XP Media Center 2005 and it has 2003 on it that I can buy. My main thing was that with it I could not do like 5mg and have the space between the drug dose automatically come in from my expander. But, as soon as I get the new version of Word, I'm getting Instant Text and maybe that will help. I need to upgrade so I can purchase the IT and Steadman's, and Steadman's needs a newer version. Also, I'd like to get some newer features than 97, hopefully one of the newer versions will be more conducive to production?

Thanks to all who reply. You can email me or post. Thanks much.
I'm using Word 2002 with Vista with no problems. nm

You'd be limiting yourself. It only works in MS Word 2000 & 2002.
Lots of people have had problems getting Smartype to work in Word 2003 and you can forget 2007. It doesn't work in different platforms either. You'd be much better off looking at ShortHand or Instant Text.
No, the Works Suite 2003 and 2005 have Word 2002.

My Word 2002 shows plus or minus symbols in outline view.
Are you sure you're in outline view?
Which version of Word are you using?

If you are using Word 2003, I HIGHLY recommend you disable autocorrect and anything that would automatically insert anything based on an expansion system within Word.  There is a known problem (on MS-Word's end) that these 2 programs compete for expansions and Word can lock up, causing you to lose up to your entire report.  I've been in touch with several people trying to resolve this issue but it is on Microsoft's end, not Smartype.  Any prior version of MS-Word does not have this issue.  Just be sure you don't have the same expansions set up for both Word and Smartype.  I loved my ST with Word 2000.  I'm on a platform where I can no longer use ST but I am slowly importing all my entries into a different expansion program.

MS Word version

What version of MS Word are you using and do you have it and Windows (not VISTA--extext not compatible with Vista) upgraded?  This should have been checked when tech support did original install for you but maybe they didn't check. Make sure your operating system has all upgrades it should and that MS Word has all the upgrades it should, too, then reboot, make sure nothing opens up or is open after you reboot.  Then go to Windows Explorer, C drive, then docnet (these are your ExText Word Client folders).  You are going to do a clean install, so delete the following folders and no others:  Dump, offlinedoc, recovery, templates, transnet, workinggroup.  If you delete the entire docnet folder you will delete all of extext and will NOT be able to reinstall, so only the folders above should be deleted. Reboot again.  You also want to make sure you don't have any old temp files sitting on your hard drive; these can affect how your programs run.  You can check this by doing a search on your C drive (assuming drive is C), for *.tmp.  Make sure again that nothing is opened and delete those files.  I would do this after deleting the above folders but before reinstalling Extext. Make sure nothing opens up again or is opened, and reinstall Extext again.  This should clear things up for you, and if that doesn't work, I would definitely contact tech support.  Extext is not supposed to work right if you open up Word first. Extext should be opening Word for you, sometimes you can get a runtime error if you exit from the VPN before extext has disconnected.

Even though you exit from Extext, and you should never exit using the X in the corner, it takes a few seconds for the last file to upload, so it is better to exit from extext, leave the vpn connected, check email or do somthing else and then disconnect the vpn.  Also, if you were doing a control S to look at a document and left that document open, then control N'd your working document, and then tried to start a new document when the screen pops up, you will get a runtime error.

Not in my version of Word...?
I do not find "speller type" option/window where you are saying it should be - ?!    BTW, I have uninstalled Word Pro and gone back to plain old Word 2003.
You are using your version of Word. sm
Yes, your auto correct feature works and yes you scan use an Expander of your choice that is compatible with Word.
What version of Word are you using?

Which version of Word?
You can turn on auto numbering or you can assign a keyboard shortcut to a numbering style.
On my Word version it's this way

Try:

Word - Format - Autoformat - options - autoformat as you type - check box for numbering in that field.

What version of Word? sm
Try Ctrl + A to highlight the entire document if the template already has text in the document area only, then go to the Font dialog box and choose the font and size you want, then click on the Default button so it also changes the original template. If there is no text in the document area, just go to the Font dialog box at the beginning of the document and follow the same steps. I am assuming the original template is a .dot file. When you close the document, you will get a message asking if you want to save changes to the template. Be sure to check the yes box.

You do not say which version of Word you are using but if you open--sm
File, Print, and in the box 'print what' click on the down arrow and choose key assignments. Sorry, I do not use templates much so maybe someone else can answer that, or go the 'help' and you may find the answer there. Hopes this helps
What Version of Word do you like? 2000 or?
I'm getting a new computer pretty soon and am wondering what version of Word to get with it. I am only familiar with Word 97 and I like some of the things about that.

I need a version that will automatically CAPITALIZE after a period. Couldn't live with that.

Thanks for all your help. Couldn't make it without my MT buddies!

The version I use does not use my word autocorrect but has
its own. I have to turn mine off or they both come in at the same time with words within words.
I have an older version of word, so
I type 65- and then use Expander yo for year-old and also have yobf, yowf (black female, white female), etc.
I don't have a current version of Word, so I don't know if -- sm
...there's an option in the settings there, but I'm assuming it's taking one of the standard Windows sounds for that "ding" you're hearing (perhaps the sound Microsoft calls "Asterisk"?).

There are probably other methods, but you could try going into your Control Panel, then Sounds and Audio Devices, then the Sounds tab and change that Asterisk (or whatever it turns out to be -- you can listen to the sounds on that tab) to something more to your liking, or to No Sound. (Of course, that may prevent Windows from alerting you in whatever programs or routines may use that same Asterisk sound, but it would get rid of it, anyway.)
Depends on your version of Word. sm
With autonumbering turned on, Word 2000 and later will automatically indent your list. You cannot turn off the indent, however, you can press Alt + Shift + left arrow to demote the list to the left margin. You can also create your own numbered style with no indent.

Does your Word version let you make Macros?

I have never been able to figure out how to do special format characters in ShortHand, but if your Word version allows you to make Macros, you can set up a Macro that will do the same thing as ShortHand.  If your transcription platform does not accept Macros, you might still be able to “trick” it by then linking your ShortHand to your Word Macro.  It works for me but every Word version and transcription platform is different, so you may have to play around a bit before you hit the right combination.  If you need specific instructions to set up the Macro let me know.  Good Luck.

It depends on your version of Word. Which one are you working in
and which version of Windows? Later versions no longer include the WP5.1 filter but you can use the old one if you still have old installation CDs. You can also download the filter from the link below.
What version of Word? That can't be set in newer versions. I had to do a macro --sm
I hope this link works for you. It shows how to make the macro. I use alt + semicolon for it because it seemed those would be a convenient shortcut to use. H

Here's the link (you'll probably have to copy and paste it):

Every version of Word seems to do auto numbering differently. sm
The last two versions have a number list style that will keep numbers at the left margin and do the hanging indent automatically. Alt-Shift-left arrow will take your list back to the left margin if you don't use the style but want to use automatic numbering.

that is compatible. It's the plain Works version that usually comes installed on new computers that uses a different file format and is not compatible. You just have to be careful that you are buying the Suite.

No. EditScript works fine with my 2003 Word version. sm
It is ExText with Word 2000 that I am worried about interfering with my EditScript from eScription.

Sorry that happened to you. I have been running Word 2003 with eScription for about 4 years now. Everything works great!
Word hasn't capped after a colon since the 2000 version.
You have to manually cap with shift key or run a macro at the end of the report. You can also hit shift+f3 to change the case to upper.
