Serving Over 20,000 US Medical Transcriptionists

what we need

I think many physicians hold stock or in some other way have an interest in the very companies that are putting us out of business.  This is about money in their pockets and the global economy.  For many, tt's not about the American worker or the best care for their patients.  Some are naive about what is happening, but I don't think it's the majority.  I think your larger medical journals and organizations support what is happening and would never print anything we wrote.  Old boy network at work.  The younger physicians grew up using technology and are comfortable with it and accepting of it.

The public at large don't know we exist or what we do and they trust their doctors to make sure their records are okay.  Even if they request a copy of their records, they can't spot an error!  It's Greek to most of them.   A TV show about it would come and go, make an impression on a few for a short while and then it's over.

I don't mean to be a downer, but I've worked for the high and mighty in DC and I know how they think.  Situations like this don't usually turn around until things hit bottom and the boys discover their favorite toys don't work as well as they thought they would.  It has yet to hit bottom, but I think it's coming.  Will they settle for what they get when they hit it is the ultimate question.  And will we still be around, willing to pick up the pieces and have the nerve at that point to demand what we are worth.

Even if all the technology turns out to be fantastic, there are still questions of HIPAA violations, taxation, affect on American economy, etc.  THIS is where we might get some exposure as to our worth.   These issues need to be disussed on the Hill, especially when "affordable healthcare for every American citizen" is mentioned.  Healthcare at what expense to our health with possibly inaccurate records transcribed by someone for whom our language is secondary and personal privacy issues are involved with offshoring?
