wrong. the virus protection and anti-spyware

are only as good as the updates and are NOT 100% all the time. NO program is 100%. Hackers are finding new ways to compromise computers every single day and no program can protect from all of them. The longer you are up and running, the more chance of being invaded. don't fool yourself into thinking antivirus and antispyware are fool proof, because they are not. You have to think smart and protect yourself too, by shutting down when not in use and allowing new updates to take effect. duh.

Do not download the Panda titanium software for virus checker and spyware protection. It corrupted
my entire computer, had to have service man fix it to the tune of $150.00.
Tech question. I have discovered spyware on my PC. It is blocking me from using anti-spyware softw
and fix the problem.  I need help!  Any ideas on how to locate the offending program and get rid of it.  I downloaded Ad-Aware in an tried to run it and it's blocking that too and my McAfee is being blocked as well.  I cannot run a scan at all.
My virus protection keeps catching emails with the blackmail.F virus. That
has been going around for a few days and different variants of that are popping up. Don't know if it is related as I have not had time to research it. Watch out for that one too.
Have you done spyware scans, defrag, virus scan and reboot? All of these help me. Run spyware
:P

There is a company who is connected with Norton, Symantic (spelling ?) that has Eanthology/stop sign. Look it up on the web. This costs less than $7 a month (I have 3 computers on this). You download from the web, has a firewall, pop, the whole 9 yards. I have a VIP subscription and they have been on the phone with me for an hour before fixing my computer. I would recommend them to anyone. You can also find them by putting in Stop-sign computer protection service. Let me know if you need additional info
Can anyone recommend a good virus/security protection?

I currently use a program called PC cillin.  I have used Norton, and with both I still managed to get "worms" on my computer. Also, my internet service is with AOL.

Thanks.

AVG anti-virus...
and also Microsoft's own Anti-Spyware are good. www.microsoft.com (downloads) and Google in AVG and go to their site...
Someone posted about a new anti-spyware program they had tested against several others - sm
and found it was better (or found more problems) than their existing programs.  My computer has been a bit weird/very slow the last day or two, ran my SpySweeper (no problems) but I thought I would try this other one.  However I cannot find the post.  Can you either post it again or email me?  Thanks.
Probably a virus/spyware
I had this happen a couple of years ago and it was pretty disconcerting. I think I ended up running my virus scan, my Ad-Aware...I am trying to remember, but I think the thing that replaced Google ended up being a program that I had to go into my Add/Remove programs and remove it. It was a pain in the butt and kinda scary knowing that something had a hold of my computer and God only knew what was going to be damaged/hijacked. I don't know how tech-comfortable you are, but if you've got any tech-savvy friends, it might be worth summoning them over to find where this may have taken root.
anti-virus programs
AVG free was recommended to me by 3 friends of mine who work in the IT field and by the IT dept at both of companies I work for.

I run it, AdAware and Pest Patrol on a weekly basis.
AVG anti-virus is great and free!

What is the best anti-virus program for Vista?
As you know if you have Vista, it has a pretty good security system built right in, the Windows firewall and Defender antispyware.  Is it necessary to go with a antivirus program with this system?  Have never had good luck with them.  Years back my computer crashed and it slowed it way down and actually brought more bad on board than did any good.  What is a good one that is cheap or free and uses very little system reserves?  I know this is kind of a technical question but any feedback would be appreciated.
Any advice on the best anti-virus for home office??

I've got Norton 360 installed on my PC and kept getting a popup all day yesterday that said my PC was infected and that I should click "here" to download Personal Antivirus.  Yeah right!  I ran a Norton scan and it said my PC was clean, but this popup box came up over and over to the point, I had to call Dell because I couldn't download software from their site.

Anyway, I finally downloaded Malwarebytes (free version) and it found and removed 12 Trojans!!!

I'm definitely going to keep the Malwarebytes, but need a really good anti-virus.  I've done my research, but have read good and bad about all of them.  AVG 8.0 didn't have the good reviews that the 7.5 had, but I found out last night that AVG 8.5 is now out. Anyone use it?

Norton sucks!  As soon as I find a decent AV program, it's gonesky!

Thanks!

Great free anti-virus and antispyware programs...
Oh, also... you do need to make sure that you have a great antivirus and anti-spyware program running at all times on your computer. I personally use AVG free version antivirus and SpyBot Search and Destroy for spyware. Check with the repairman you just used for a reliable site to download these (or what he recommends you use) and instructions on how to run them. They have saved my behind numerous times since my crash. (Didn't have them before.)
LOL, maybe you should stop reading anti-Bush blogs because you're wrong.
d
That's a virus scanner, not spyware scanner.
There's a difference between the two, although sometimes they overlap. You'll need both AVG and AdAware/Spybot to be covered.
She came around as an anti-Britney, anti-Christina bad girl a few years back
http://images.google.com/images?q=avil+lavigne&hl=en&lr=&sa=N&tab=ii&oi=imagest

and I like her music. At least it's really her music rather than some oversynthesized Britney crap. Christina can sing but she's too slutty. Avril is a nice in-between IMO. Hillary Duff is another person of that genre who actually has talent but doesn't act like a scumbag.
No but I keep one for my own protection!

For your protection, I would definitely get a lawyer
especially if they're going to hire one.

You could forfeit your rights to the property if you don't respond properly and in a timely manner and in order to do that you need a professional to examine all the legal paperwork.

My neighbor went through a somehat similar situation with her house...but too long to go into here.
My space protection.
Okay, so you can limit who can see your child's profile but can you limit the profiles your child can search for and look at? That is my question.
Because you have overdraft protection, you're...

fine as far as doing nothing illegal.  Also, when a deposited check bounces and there have been checks written assuming the check was good, that is not illegal.  However, writing a check and KNOWING the funds are not there is check kiting, which is a federal offense.  Do banks prosecute?  Normally they will not, unless it comes to the point of numerous checks OBVIOUSLY written knowing they will not clear on the second or third time (maximum of 3 times).  Then, the recipients of the checks can press charges.  Believe me it happens.  I was a bank manager for many years, and, although it didn't happen very often, it did happen.

Also, in reality banks love check bouncers.  They are the "money maker" accounts.  Those fees add up VERY quickly.

My dh is a deputy sheriff, and the jail in his county has many, many inmates in for check-kiting.  In our state the first conviction is 1-5 years, and it get worse from there.

Who hasn't written a check at the grocery store on a Thursday night, knowing the money wouldn't be there until they made a deposit on Friday.  I know I have.  One day is pretty safe, but now that so many banks use the same clearing house, writing a check even 2 days before a deposit is risky...unfortunately speaking from experience here.

So, overdraft protection is the way to go.  Safe and legal.

wrong, wrong, wrong. work is being outsourced because of $. period. not because of unqualified MTs

BK laws have changed. Ch 13 (repay) protection
is only option available if I understand the details correctly. Visa Corp. has tried to push this bill through for a decade and it was finally passed. There may be certain dire situations that allow an individual to wipe out debt (Ch7) but it will be a rare one. It is wage garnishment until the debt is paid, basically, though it may stop added penalities and possibly stop the debt from growing over time. See a reputable BK atty for a free 30 consult. It is all in the numbers really. What you owe and what your earning potential is, possibly the situation at hand but not like before (I filed Ch 13 after misfortune to save my home, paid back debt over 3 years with my wages garnished). Bad timing for this economy and many people will suffer, especially the elderly and the ill.
YES, your email has COMPLETE protection on this site. We have worked VERY hard to make sure
that e-mail addresses are protected.  Spheris did not glean your email address from this site.  In the meantime, if you enter your email address in the E-mail field, you can be emailed, but the sender cannot see your email address.  They have no idea WHAT your email address is.  ONLY if YOU reply to them will the sender then find out what it is.  If you have further questions, email me and we'll discuss it.
Ice and anti-inflammatories. SM

I had medial and lateral and it hurt like I don't know what.  I had to have the injection, instant relief of pain, but my arm was so weak.  I had to go to PT too.  They told me to do this:  Get a styrofoam cup (small one) and fill it up with water and freeze it.  Then you can just tear off paper and still have portion of cup to hold on to, and do an ice massage right there where it hurts so bad.  Stay on the anti-inflammatories.

What anti- anything are you running?

Kind of hard to know without more information.  What antispyware and antivirus programs are you running first off?  Have you defragmented your computer?  Have you run your updates?  That is why it is good to do the things it states in that tutorial, and yes, that is not the end-all site, of course.  Like I said, others may have better ideas and sites, programs, etc.  Sometimes, the companies we work with have us download software that our operating systems will not sustain well and make them unstable.  Just a thought.  Hope this helps.  Let me know.  Talk to guys tomorrow.

Not anti-AHDI but pro-US MTs
So, does anyone have any experience starting up groups such as this? Please contact me via email? I work full-time and then some - and don't have oodles of time, but my guess is we are all in this same boat (not having extra time). I would be willing to try to create something for us.

On a tangent - I really struggled over the years about the whole U.S. MTs versus "them." I truly believe we are such a melting pot and feel strong about not excluding anyone. I do not think the us VS them viewpoint is very positive. That being said, I do believe that one of the biggest problems in our economy today is that govt (both sides) let our jobs (of all kinds) go overseas so the corporations could make more money. This left Americans without jobs or having to retrain, etc. I have finally come to conclusion that I am not being exclusionary OR protectionist to want our government AND groups like AAMT to advocate for US first, for those of us who live here, create this economy, and who keep this country going.

In bringing up the idea of having a new group for MTs, I think it is important that we are FOR something (us) and not against something (AHDI, MTSOs, overseas MTs). This is only my opinion. Even though feel angry and disillusioned about what AHDI has allowed to happen, I prefer to find a more positive way to help ourselves. I'm not sure exactly what that is...but eventually it likely will require for us to be proactive and take steps.

Suggestions on how to get the tea party started? I'm willing if others are. Even if just a few of us brainstorming - the point is to set into motion something that gives us hope. Something that will eventually grow and help each other. MT Stars does this in its own way, by providing the avenue to be real and share the good and the not so great about our profession.

Please email me, let me know what you think. Or post here.

The tea party opens...

spyware
the spyware site you are referring to is www.ewido.net/en/

I went there and tried free version...did not find anything my present spyware program had not found. try emptying your temp. internet files, empty your cookie cash, and defrag. see if that helps. oh. and maybe empty your history folder too. sometimes that gets bogged down after awhile too.
spyware
try spybot, search and destroy, free download, free spyware, or spyblaster.

Happened to me today when I started working - took almost four hours to get it straigtened out with Dell - glad I paid the $300 for IT support - otherwise my computer would be a goner and I just bought it in August.
Which spyware did you use.
:
spyware
Adware SE and Spybot actually installs Spyware onto your computer.  I used them for a while and could never get certain spyware off my computer because they belong to Adware SE and Spybot.  I downloaded the free beta spyware program from www.microsoft.com and no longer have any spyware.  You can also program this to run every morning.  Good luck!!!

Try Spyware Doctor - I have found it to be a great program.  lc
spyware (sm)

If you don't remove Spyware from your computer, eventually you will have so many spyware programs running that you won't be able to surf the internet because the programs will be using all your resources to send info back to their servers.  It does need to be removed.

The link below has software you can download for free.  It is the full version for the first 30 days and if you don't buy, it will automatically become the freeware version.  Run that and see if it gets rid of the error.  You'll probably be surprised at how much data is being mined off your computer.

Does anyone else's pc get infested with Spyware after visiting this site?
Spyware!!
I'm having a problem with my computer, and could really use some advice.  I started getting this popup asking me to install their anti-spyware program.  It was so annoying and just wouldn't go away.  Then, one of my transcription programs disappeared.  After that, my computer kept shutting down on me.  And then, it wouldn't come on at all.  I finally was able to get it to stay on and I went right out and bought the latest version of McAfee, but now when I try to install it, I get a failed installation message.  I have a feeling that whatever virus I have contracted is actually stopping me from installing the McAfee.  Has anyone else had this happen.  I'm so frustrated!  I will never let my anti-virus software expire again, that is if I can get one on my computer again!

I certainly wouldn't let them be privy to that much info about me and neither should you.  You can do something about it.
Hmm, so is Easter anti-biblical?
The word "Easter" itself appears nowhere in the bible because its roots have nothing to do with Christianity:

Easter is a time of springtime festivals. In Christian countries Easter is celebrated as the religious holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of God. But the celebrations of Easter have many customs and legends that are pagan in origin and have nothing to do with Christianity. Scholars, accepting the derivation proposed by the 8th-century English scholar St. Bede, believe the name Easter is thought to come from the Scandinavian "Ostra" and the Teutonic "Ostern" or "Eastre," both Goddesses of mythology signifying spring and fertility whose festival was celebrated on the day of the vernal equinox. Traditions associated with the festival survive in the Easter rabbit, a symbol of fertility, and in colored easter eggs, originally painted with bright colors to represent the sunlight of spring, and used in Easter-egg rolling contests or given as gifts. The Christian celebration of Easter embodies a number of converging traditions with emphasis on the relation of Easter to the Jewish festival of Passover, or Pesach, from which is derived Pasch, another name used by Europeans for Easter. Passover is an important feast in the Jewish calendar which is celebrated for 8 days and commemorates the flight and freedom of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. The early Christians, many of whom were of Jewish origin, were brought up in the Hebrew tradition and regarded Easter as a new feature of the Passover festival, a commemoration of the advent of the Messiah as foretold by the prophets. (For more information please visit our Passover celebration - Passover on the Net). Easter is observed by the churches of the West on the first Sunday following the full moon that occurs on or following the spring equinox (March 2I). So Easter became a "movable" feast which can occur as early as March 22 or as late as April 25. Christian churches in the East which were closer to the birthplace of the new religion and in which old traditions were strong, observe Easter according to the date of the Passover festival.

Antiinflammatory/anti-inflammatories???
Is this correct.  I am getting different opinions and answers.  First BOS says not to a hyphen for both...second BOS says hyphen all but have had editors saying no hyphen for antiinflammatory and a hyphen for the plural.  HELP!
Has anyone tried Cymbalta? It is new anti-depressant

which I read speeds up a person - since I am soooo lethargic in my depression, not to mention the fact that in just under a year I have put on an enormous amount of weight (partly due to smoking cessation - I ate everything in site and then sat while working 70 hours a week, then, too tired to do anything much than the necessary).

Am age 48.  Am on Paxil now.  Thinking of going back on Prozac as it was a good med for me (I have low grade depression exacerbated by stress).

I wonder what the general concensus is on this new med.   Thank you very much

A4tech anti-RSI model KB(s)-8
I've tried all the expensive ergonomic keyboards mentioned here in the past and never found one I liked. Back in the day, Keytronics made a great keyboard (some 15 or 20 years ago) but they aren't the same now. I've been using this A4tech anti-RSI KB(S)-8 for a couple of years and it is fantastic. I heard about it on another board and thought, how can it be that great when it's only $20? But it really is the best keyboard I've owned in 20 years. Plus you can program some of the keys to open programs or perform tasks, even keystrokes. The keyboard comes with a wrist rest, which is completely useless to me, but it comes off easily so that's not a problem.
Atech4 anti-rsi keyboard (sm)
KBS-8 (not KB-8). Under $20 bucks. Has programmable keys above the function keys that are great to bring up dictionaries and other programs at the push of a button. Very, very responsive, not noisy, great touch. The "KBS" series keys are at an A angle, the "KB" series at the regular keyboard angle. I love the A angle. There's nothing I don't like about this keyboard and believe me, I've spent big money on the best a number of times over the past 20+ years and have been unhappy or not nearly as happy as I am with this one. Not an unhappy moment with this one. Hard not to try for under $20. Can I say more? :)
why is AHDI so anti American MT

they seem completely out of touch with MTs, as evidenced in my personal experience and from reading so many posts on this board alone.  I have never seen such misrepresentation of a profession...and they seem to have not even an inkling to bridge the gap; in fact, they seem to go out of their way to make the bridge even wider.

we need some representation on behalf of all MTs from the 'old school,' as we should be grandfathered in to any kind of mandatory certification, if it comes to that; but we definitely need an advocate on OUR side.

I see a lot of condescending remarks (and worse) from CMTs on this site against we "regular MTs" and it proves the point that there is a huge injustice going on with that organization and their disrespect of the 'little' guys here who are losing more and more money every year.  I just heard overall American wages have dropped from $7500 a year gained from the 1990s to 2000 lower to date, and dropping, which is over 9000 a year.  utilites are sky-rocketing, food prices, (need I go on?)...

now of ALL times to try to enforce any more financial hardship on MTs (while at the same time lowering costs for overseas MTs) not only shows complete lack of knowledge about the realities we face, but extreme disrespect toward us.

WE should be priority, not overseas MTs but US.

this is not a game people...this is serious, and no one should be able to mess with anyone else's livelihood in such ways as I have seen in this profession alone over the last decade especially.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
User friendly and it seems to work well. I run it twice a week.

Hope that helps :-)
keylooger spyware
yes, you need to be concerned. This would allow someone to steal your passwords to anything. There is a company eAnthnology (symantec the folks that does Norton) that you can download from the internet. For a small monthly fee ($7) you get a firewall, emaill scanner, popup blocker, etc and telephone support if needed. Scans are automatially ran at specific intervals that you set and then they are automatically cleaned. If cannot be cleaned right then, message is sent to the company and they write a program to fix and then it is fixed automatically. Great company!!!! I have used them for years.
Help! I have spyware on my computer
I have dealhelper Spyware on my computer and I ran Adware SE and spybot and can't get it to go away.  It is on my list of computer programs under add/delete programs and it is taking up almost 3000 MB of space.  It won't let me delete it through add/delete because it says file not found.  Is anybody technically savvy?  Do I need to purchase one of these expensive programs from the internet to get this off my computer or is there a free one?
Question about Spyware. sm
I can't find a technical board, so here goes.  I was evidently infected by Spy Sheriff about 6 weeks ago.  I kept rerunning my Norton, and the red button with the white x finally stopped popping up constantly.  However, when I make a new Word file, I get a second file that looks like a ghost file, with a tilda and a dollar sign in front of it.  Now I am having trouble with my internet connection cutting out, having to reboot frequently, and my emails are not always going through.  I'm not sure if this is related.  I have tried to find info on this "virus," but there is so much conflicting info I don't know what to believe.  Has anyone had this problem?  Do I still have the spyware?  Can I get something that will completely wipe it out, or will I have to wipe my hard drive?  Will that even work, if I have to reload my ShortHand and Word?  Any advice appreciated.  TIA.
Escription - Spyware?

Hey, everyone.  I need some advice - again!  I just started training on Escription and have noticed that it has some processes that run in the background while I am not even using the program.  Did a little investigating and found out that these processes are monitoring me!!!  Now, call me paranoid, but I do not think Escription has any business monitoring me when I am not running the program.  I know this is part of their whole "learn to use shortcuts and be a great transcriptionist" program, but it kinda burns me.

I was really happy with my company until I discovered this.  Now I am very displeased, and not sure of how to handle this, what to do.  I guard my privacy almost religiously.

I know Escription is a popular platform, so some of you have worked/do work on it.  Can you tell me how you feel about this issue, what you would do, etc?

Thanks in advance.
