Pros and Cons

I know a lot of people will reply to your post saying this or that program is great. When I was trying to decide, that sort of info was not all that helpful to me. I will try to give you both the strengths and weaknesses of the program I am in, and I hope others will follow suit. I am sure any school has areas that need improvement.

I like my school because it is one of the AAMT-approved programs. You can see other schools the AAMT recommends and find other great information about choosing a school at www.aamt.org. There are also many grads who come back to the M-TEC forums to post about the job they got and how it is going, so I have some confidence that my M-Tec training is going to lead to a good job.  I like the support from other students on the forums. I get helpful information from the weekly classes at M-TEC, and there is a technology instructor who is very approachable and helpful.

On the downside, I don't think the M-TEC program is set up in the best way for learning purposes. I find the syllabus disorganized and hard to follow. Just as one example, the "Where Do I Begin" section is on p. 22 when it would make much more sense to have it on p. 1.

Another problem is the use of Diehl and Fordney's Medical Transcription and Techniques and Procedures. This book is not up-to-date, and I think it is more confusing than helpful when you are just beginning. However, a grad has come back and said it was helpful on the job, so maybe I'll change my mind someday.
