Regarding schools - did you ever notice that (see message)
people who chose AHP, Penn Foster, etc. who managed to find a job afterwards, even in their own words state they were "lucky enough" or "blessed enough" to get on with a company, usually small and/or local. For every 2 or 3 of those posts, what about the literally hundreds of posts around the internet from grads of those same schools who have been unable to find a job, because "everyone wants experience." They say will only hire with experience because you have told them you went to an inferior school, got a poor education, and probably can't pass their employment test, so they don't want to waste their time on you.

So you can listen to the rare, occasional person who was "lucky enough" or "blessed enough" to get a job after taking a less expensive, inferior course, or you can listen to the people all over the internet who wish they had chosen Andrews or M-Tec (or even CS). No skin off my teeth.
If you notice a pain in your hand or thumb
or neck or shoulders or foot, the time to try a position change is immediately. That has worked for me.

Remember to get your exercise. That will protect your body more than anything else. Walking and Pilates or yoga, light weights with proper form are all good choices.
If you'll check the company board you'll find
they have been talked about several times recently.  They are an Indian company and no one has had anything good to say about them.

    MTSO's can be extremely busy...sm

Not only can they be overwhelmed with trying to handle the new work load, but they have to sort through resumes, interview and hire someone, plus paperwork. So if they do have more work, this just adds to the workload. I dread bringing on someone new because it is such a huge amount of work - that takes away from getting the work at hand done in a timely fashion. So patience is good, I'm sure they know you are there, but maybe just keeping their head above water...

Professional MT's would be too busy working to
frequent this board themselves. I run a business, I have time. What's your excuse?
Thanks Busy!! Tips from pros are always appreciated as I'm learning ...

Notice that nobody promoted any "Big 2" or "Big 3" schools in that message
In fact, I don't see that much promotion on the boards of any specific school. I just see people fighting an invisible war against those awful "Big 3" schools. Count the messages.
I think I'll be done in about ....
2 months, give or take. I'm in good ol' Texas :)
    You'll get there!!

I just wanted to let you know that it is possible for a new MT to get a job with a national company.  I did it, and I just graduated in December.  Just keep putting out those resumes and testing.  It will happen!! God bless!

    Hello!

I'm actually quite new here too. Still trying to get used to the software. :-)

And i'll bet a lot of them have CMT behind their name. nm

You get what you pay for. Don't waste $442. You'll need it. SM
You can't learn MT for that.

Aside from waiting for lessons to be graded and relentless job searching, I have nothing else to do that involves using my brain. Please post the word jumble. I will do my best!

With Andrews and M-Tec you'll get a job.
With Andrews and M-Tec, you'll get a job, and it will be a good job. Simple as that.

They teach more and they teach it better.

Yes, sadly, everyone has heard of AHP, as well as the miseries their graduates go through trying to find a job. No major employer, to our knowledge, will waive the experience requirements for them. They don't even get an opportunity to take employment tests.
they'll fire you for not enough QUANTITY too, though!
    lol
I'm not sure...I'll try to find out the details
    and let you know.
well, tell that the MT that just lost her job. I'm sure she'll feel better.

    I'll give you a figure....
If you are working full time, to be on the safe side I would not expect to do more than 800 lines per day to begin with.  You may get up to 1,000 after a period of time, say 3-6 months...maybe.  As far as average length of dictation, there is no such thing.  A VERY general ratio is 4:1 (4 minutes transcribing/proofing 1 minute of dictation), and that is after some experience.  HTH
She'll need a pedal to test.
You'll need a pedal to test for companies unless you want to look slow by using your F keys.
I'll let you in on a secret. If they have global in their name they

offshore work, if the company itself isn't offshore.   You can look through the archives for past info, if there is any.

6 cpl is too much for someone just starting out. If they're good, you'll know it & can up the
rate from there. If they suck, you'll know it, too, and can either take the chance of training them or cut them loose.  I know it's brutal, but it's honest and it's business.

Bad school. If you do a search using abbreviation you'll
get more info.   I'm not sure what other abbreviations you are talking about, if company abbreviations or the usual internet appreviations like DH for dear husband.  You can look on the classified board here for a foot pedal, you need USB-1.  You can also look on E-bay, or do a Google search for companies that sell new.   A new one would cost anywhere between $65 and $80.  If you go to the ExpressScribe website I think they sell them now.
If you read through the past posts here you'll
see that M-Tec and Andrews were the best.  They help with placement and most grads have a job by the time they finish up.  Career Step is the next choice.
Search for comments, but I don't think they'll hire newbies. nm

As you'll hear 1000 times, there IS no school that SM

can offer an MT certificate. You have to take the test through AAMT.

Also, what offices and hospitals want? A person who can sit down and do their work without a lot of discussion or BS. Just get the work out, make it correct. I was in a hiring position for several years at the largest hospital in my state. I didn't care about certification. I cared about test performance.

Of course a CMT behind your name means A LOT. That test is very difficult and, for the most part, if you have passed that test, no more discussion is necessary.

Only if you'll get into voice recognition and editorship. Look at how many hits a job on the job

Don't worry - you'll learn all that basic stuff
in school. They used to teach it in secretarial classes, of course, but if you know you want to be an MT, go to one of the top schools (M-Tec and Andrews), and you will be ready when it's time to test.
If you spent any time at all reading this board you'll
see what a struggle it is for newbies to get jobs at home.  If you go to one of the better schools your chances are better, but still no guarantee.   I think anyone looking to get into this field now is crazy.  Lots of work being offshored and lots of working going to ASR, which leaves fewer jobs for available.  j
