Saving keystrokes
Even after 35 years in this profession, I have purchased this book and it is fabulous.  I am only through a few chapters, but it is so full of great information and hints, even ones I had not thought of myself in the last many years.  It truly does make for less keystrokes, and helps in line count, and we need all the help we can get.
I have both Vista and XP pro on my desktop. sm
The people I got my new computer from said that the big thing with Vista vs XP is that with Vista you need LOTS more RAM or something like that.

Our computer came with Vista pre-installed but because we got more speed and a major amount of memory and a video card with its own RAM, he was able to put XP pro on with Vista. I am not tech-savvy at all, so I was more than happy to have them do it.

Another place you might want to try is www.komando.com She ROCKS!!! She is my major source for questions etc.

If you can, use your old computer. It might be slow, but as long as it gets your job done, that's what counts. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.
I've replaced them in a desktop, taking apart a

laptop isn't quite as easy and I'd recommend you have a professional do it.

There is no difference in working on a laptop versus a desktop.  If there is a problem it may either be an equipment issue, such as the sound card, or a setting issue.  Maybe you need to update drivers or something similar.   I've worked on a laptop exclusively for 6 years.
