Why MT?

Hi,

Just want to give you a piece of advice -- don't bother working as an MT. Have you ever read the book No Logo? Read it. You will see that the "race to the bottom" and substandard wages and conditions with lies and dishonest pay practices are taking place right here in the USA. And, as the book states, they [the Transcriptionist and MTSO] organizations have basically sold each out by bidding against each down to the very bottom. Some of these women get a "charge" out of who can produce the most lines and have no respect for knowledge or skill. It is to the point now that MTs are competing with third-world countries and in many cases right here in the USA, the workers aren't given their health insurance unless they meet a certain line count. In addition, you need to remember that your speed and connectivity is inadherently dependent upon the originator [your MTSO or organization]. This commentary is coming from someone who wants out, has a bachelor's degree, types 70+ wpm with 98+% accuracy, and has been using MS Word since the late 1980's (on a Mac). Think about it. Respect yourself. Get your extra money from somewhere else.
