Hey,
I had to get rid of my Vista for my job. Do you have the XP cd from your old computer? What I did was installed the XP onto my Vista laptop and removed Vista, but held onto the CDs in case Vista does ever become usable.
If your not sure on how to do this, you may want to find a buddy that is tech-savvy or see if a local computer store will do it for a small price. It took me some trial and error to get mine going, and I'm not sure if it's the same on all computers. There are some websites that explain how to do this.
I don't know about other companies, but I had to have XP, Vista just wouldn't work.
