buying books
I have gotten quite a few Stedman's off of www.half.com (part of eBay, if you're not familiar with it).  I've gotten some really good deals, including one still in the shrink wrap.  They have some of the really old versions, too, so you have to watch that.
I would not recommend buying the CD versions used
because you are only allowed 2 downloads and then they don't work.
inputs on buying a laptop computer to use for work

I am a newbie and looking into buying a laptop computer to use for work.  I would like to know if that is okay.  The reason that I wanted a laptop computer for work is because I wanted to be still working wherever I maybe even if I am not at home.  Is that possible? If it's okay, what laptop computers do you recommend?

I stopped buying reference books ten years ago....
Use web sites such as RXlist for medications.
Transcription Service
Have you looked in the yellow pages? I know of one small service but I believe it operates out of Dora or Sumiton. I'm not near a phonebook at the moment, but the number should begin with a 647-, of course I could be wrong...sorry. If I find it, I'll let you know.

Where are you graduating from?
Get work with a service first.
You need to learn the ropes, so to speak, so you'd profit by working for a service. You can observe what they do, how they do it, and you can get your skills polished up.

Then, when you are ready and settled elsewhere, you can begin your business. You'll be on more solid footing.

If you need a business loan, nobody is going to want to give you one if you have no experience doing the job. You'll be in a better position if you take a job with a service now.

I don't think it matters which service
gmail, yahoo, or any other. I believe it is very important that it reflects your name. If your name is Jane Doe, then it should be janedoe@gmail.com because that appears more professional than mtgrad@gmail.com for instance. Regarding confidential documents - if you mean your resume and cover letter, no there are no requirements. Later when you work, maybe you will be required to use encrypted emails.
