TRS has merged with Transcend...
... as of April 1, 2009. I was hired at TRS over 6 months ago and thus was acquired by Transcend at the same time. I loved working for TRS--very nice people, lots of help, very responsive, and every promise they made, they kept. I am withholding judgment on Transcend because it is still far too early to tell. So far there are no changes; we are still working the same accounts, under the same supervisors, at the same rates, etc.

If you are actually able to test on the TRS site, that might mean you'd be applying for a job that would have come under the TRS umbrella, and thus have former TRS supervisors, if that makes sense.... If you wind up talking to a recruiter named Bonnie, she was the TRS recruiter, and she'll give you the straight story.

Best of luck with your job hunt! Feel free to e-mail if I can answer any other questions for you.
Do you any temp services near you?...
Some of our local temp services were hiring for MTs. You may want to check with them. I don't know if they will require experience or not. Don't give up yet! Keep on searching. Something will open up for you.
Gatlin Education Services
Has anyone taken the MT course from Gatlin Education Services? I don't see much about it on this board and was just curious about everyone's opinion.
Soap Transcription Services
Does anybody know anything about this company?  Does anybody work for them?
What to charge depends on what services

you need to provide.  Are you going to have to pick up tapes and deliver completed work back to them, do you do envelopes with the letters, do you print on sticky paper and if so do they provide it, if you have to return work, do you have to return it printed or can you just put on a disk and they print so you need to figure in cost of printing supplies.   If they are digital what equipment do they use and do you have equipment that is compatible so you can download work or will you have to buy some equipment/software, how much dictation will they have, etc.    If they only have 1 or 2 docs who might only dictate 2 or 3 times a week that is good for you because it gives you plenty of TAT but do they have enough dictation to make it worth your while (especially if you're having to pick-up tapes, provide paper, etc.)

6 cpl is way TOO LOW, I don't care what part of the country you live in.    If you are working for a service that is probably would you could expect to be paid, but that isn't near enough to charge if you have your own accounts.

Most services are looking more for proper spelling, grammar, and
sentence structure than they are layout.  I don't give a hoot what the layout looks like because I have my own way of doing things that I train the MT on how to do upon hire.
and they cost an awful lot. TASP's are redundant services for...
MT's who can't figure it out on their own. Why pay forever for files being sent over the Internet when you can get your own software to do it and just pay once?
Definitely more jobs available to those that want to work in-house somewhere. Any services local
