well sorry to burst your bubble...sm

In Reply to: 6 or 7 cents a line for EXPERIENCED transcriptionists? SM - anon

but it's true. I'm not making it up. I was just sharing some information for a newbie. You can work for whatever line rate you want. I'm just telling you I get experienced MT's all the time who are willing to work for 6-7 cpl. You get a much bigger view of the MT world when you are running the service. Line rates took a big hit when India came on the scene. What you don't know, as you're busy happily typing away at home, is that the service owners are out there trying to bid on jobs to get you the work and coming up on some remarkable price resistance. I was astonished to find us outbid at 11 cents per line. There are other people underbidding us and offering 24 hour TAT to boot.  Hey, I don't like it myself. I'm just telling you like it is.

I hate to burst your bubble, but some people can do it.
Maybe you can't, but I did.  I took my knowledge of medical terminology that I learned as a nurse, combined that with good typing skills, was tutored by some exceptional seasoned transcriptionists, and became a quality MT myself.
Honey, I hate to burst your bubble, but
poor sound quality and bad dictators are reality in the real world of transcription, always has been and always will be. If you cannot do these dictations, you will not be able to pass hiriing tests, much less be able to keep a job. If the schools give out diplomas without assuring these people are ready for this type of work, then I feel very sorry for these students who spend a lot of money to take their course.
Sorry to pop a bubble, but

My job is head of Human Resources.  I'm very interested in this whole subject.

Our Transcription Company doesn't hire M-Tec or Career Step graduates right out of school without going through an internship on our software.  This may become more and more prevalent.

I never see Andrews graduates so I can't say about them.  Don't Andrews and M-Tec own MT Chat?  I think so.  You can go to that site and speak to them directly.

We hire most of our new MTs directly from an educational staffing school that we contract with.  We have used a couple of schools recently.  We like being able to train our MTs from scratch.

At times, we do have a relationship with Career Step.  Recently we stopped hiring them.  The decision came from above me.  I only heard that their typing segment was weak.

I think the education of MTs will move to staffing schools due to software issues.  Software will become more and more of an issue, IMO, and from what I hear from others.  Also, a staffing school doesn't have to advertise and the employer often helps with the tuition.  Therefore, the cost of tuition falls while the guarantee of a job increases.

Just my observation.

so sorry to pop your little self-righteous bubble honey

but I'll bet $100 and my 1099 I made WAY more than you did last year. If you want to play smug, I'll play smug too.
