what course?

I know you probably don't feel comfortable sharing which course it was, but if you wouldn't mind, you might save some of us a lot of grief.

Perhaps you can think of the very abbreviated course you took as an introduction to the study process, and move on to a more detailed course as your time and finances permit. One thing I've read in several places is that it's a mistake for trainers to rush newbies into listening to and attempting to transcribe doctors' dictation, because even just UNDERSTANDING some of these characters, let alone being able to transcribe what they're saying, is a skill learned over time--sometimes lots of time--and it's so easy for a beginner to get discouraged. So in a shorter course, it seems the hard stuff would come up sooner than in one of longer duration--it might not really be an indication that you're not going to be good at it eventually!
