Again, if we are so much safer, why did the 9/11 commission give him a failing grade?

You can't answer that either. Despite any connection between Iraq and 9/11, Bush and Co. (on fake intelligence) has stirred up an incredibly dangerous hornet's nest, yet you think everything is great. Why don't we just hand Iraq to Iran on a silver platter and just be done with it?

Why did the 9/11 commission give King
Yet again, you continue to miss the point. He acted ILLEGALLY. For all your blabbing about *intelligence* you have no idea what you're talking about. Perhaps it's okay with you that your civil rights are violated all in the name of *protecting the country*. Why is it so hard to get the required permission from judges?
What I am failing

to understand is why the world's problems in fact become a US problem.  Why is it that when we are struggling economy wise, we are giving millions, if not billions to other countries for healthcare etc?  Here's a clue for these countries we are basically supporting.  STOP HAVING BABIES!  So this is all wraped up in a nice little healthcare package with a pretty little bow on it?  The US is the #1 supporter of other countries in that we give them free money and expect nothing in return.  Obama and his cabinet need to worry about US and the US first and foremost.

I have had a hard time since before the elections understanding how tax cuts are going to happen when one package after another is signed for aid for this money for that, oh and let's not forget national healthcare, etc etc etc.  And then to hear that creepy Biden say paying taxes is the patriotic duty?  Which one is it?

Guess what - you can commission a STUDY to say whatever you want it to.
Oh, yes, the great evil VOUCHER. Let us all collectively shudder and quake.

I mean, what an outrage! Letting a PARENT determine what is in the best interest of THEIR CHILD. Oh my God! I mean, whoever heard of a country letting PARENTS make carefully-considered, informed DECISIONS? What's next! Letting women VOTE?! Heaven forbid! Good grief. Do you even understand how the voucher system works? Or do you just Google and let someone else do the thinking for you?

And your solution would be, what? Oh, I know.

Let's all just shove our kids in detention, surround them with barbed wire, and give them more free lunches.

That ought to provide a great crop of citizens, dontcha think?
It was a huge failing. sm
And you are right, genocide has occured through many presidencies.  It occurred in Iraq to the tune of Millions.  But no one talks about that.  So which genocide do we choose?  Are some politically correct and some not?  Just wondering.
Failing that, the lot of them go to the other boad and try to run them off there.

Here's how much safer
Do the math. If they hated us before, they sure as he** hate us MORE now. It's the foreign policy, stupid! Oh, and wasn't it BUSH who vowed to get Osama *dead or alive* but then later said he didn't *think about him much*??????

The graphs and links don't carry over in the copy and paste, but you can read those at his blog: http://bobgeiger.blogspot.com/

When George W. Bush made a prime-time television appearance Monday night to give a political speech -- under the guise of commemorating the five-year anniversary of September 11 -- he started right off by telling both a lie and the truth in one short sentence.

Today, we are safer, but we are not yet safe, said Bush, which means he was batting .500 with the truth in just one short statement. Not bad for him. It is undeniably true that we are not yet safe, but to imply that we are safer than we were before Bush turned the world against us is demonstrably false.

And Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) sketched out the only numbers needed to confirm that Bush's war on terror is not only going very badly, but has gotten much, much worse on his watch.

Osama bin Laden is still on the loose. Al-Qaeda's membership, estimated at 20,000 on 9/11, is now estimated by our intelligence agencies at 50,000. Instead of shrinking and disappearing, they are growing geometrically, said Durbin on the Senate floor Tuesday, in describing how unsafe Republicans have made America.

Now there's a number we want to talk a lot about between now and the midterm elections, as Republicans beat their chests and say how safe they've kept Americans.

And Durbin's numbers check out. According to the 9/11 Commission Report, U.S. intelligence estimates put the total number of fighters who underwent instruction at bin Laden-supported camps in Afghanistan from 1996 through 9/11 at 10,000 to 20,000.

And recent research by the nonprofit, nonpartisan Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism, funded by the Department of Homeland Security and other government grants, says that the number of Al-Qaeda has jumped from the 20,000 reported by the 9/11 Commission a few years ago to 50,000 today.

This is an astonishing and disturbing number given that these are the people our own government said attacked us on September 11 -- and there's a hell of a lot more of them now.

Durbin also responded to charges by Rick Santorum (R-PA) that floor-statements made by Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) about Iraq were damaging and purely political in nature, by citing a report released Monday from the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) entitled Stabilizing Iraq: An Assessment of the Security Situation.

The GAO published a graph yesterday. The number of attacks rose from around 100 in May of 2003 to roughly 4,500 in July of 2006, said Durbin. Is it political or partisan to note the obvious, the GAO report to which Senator Reid made reference? That is not political partisanship; that is a reality, and we should face that reality because Iraq does continue to slip into civil war despite the billions that we have spent and the thousands of American lives which have been lost in that battle.

And here is the chart from the GAO report:

Since June 2003, the overall security conditions in Iraq have deteriorated and grown more complex, as evidenced by increasing numbers of attacks and Sunni/Shi'a sectarian strife, said the GAO report.

The report continues:

Enemy-initiated attacks against the coalition and its Iraqi partners have continued to increase through July 2006. Since 2003, enemy-initiated attacks have increased around major religious or political events, including Ramadan and elections...

Overall, attacks increased by 23 percent from 2004 to 2005. After declining in the fall of 2005, the number of attacks rose to the highest level ever in July 2006. Total attacks reported from January 2006 through July 2006 were about 57 percent higher than the total reported during the same period in 2005. These data show significant increases in attacks against coalition forces, who remain the primary targets, as well as civilians and Iraqi security forces.

The GAO ended the report with some damning questions for the Republican-controlled Congress -- questions that will undoubtedly be met with deafening silence until the scheduled October 6 adjournment, including:

* What are the key political, economic, and security conditions that must be achieved before U.S. forces can draw down and ultimately withdraw from Iraq? What target dates, if any, has the administration established for drawing down U.S. forces?

* Why have security conditions continued to deteriorate in Iraq even as the country has met political milestones, increased the number of trained and equipped security forces, and increasingly assumed the lead for security?

* If existing U.S. political, economic, and security measures are not reducing violence in Iraq, what additional measures, if any, will the administration propose for stemming the violence?

I guess, using Republican parlance, the General Accountability Office must hate America too.

Durbin, the second-ranking Democrat in the Senate, wrapped up by pointing out that, after a brief period of focus and success in Afghanistan following the start of that war in October 2001, things have been going downhill ever since and the Taliban is once again making a major bid to control the country.

There is another reality, said Durbin. The Taliban is gaining ground again in Afghanistan. They have set up shop in Pakistan where that Government has agreed to have a safe haven for some of these terrorist forces. That is unfortunate, and it is disastrous when you think of our long-term war on terrorism.

Bush seems to disagree with that assessment, saying on March 16, 2006, We have joined with the Afghan people to bring down the Taliban regime -- the protectors of the Al-Qaeda network -- and aided a new, democratic government to rise in its place.

I suppose there may be a way to squeeze some truth out of that statement, but the Administration will never acknowledge that, on their contrived, tough-on-terror watch, things have quietly been going to hell in a hand basket in Afghanistan, with Taliban attacks and suicide bombings way up in the last two years.

And, even if we accept the White House's ongoing claim that Iraq, and not Afghanistan, is the central front in the war on terror, the daily Iraqi death toll, our own dead and wounded and the recent revelation that U.S. forces may have lost control of Anbar province to the insurgents, tells just how badly Bush is doing there as well. Not to mention that as far back as mid-2005, even Bush's fellow Republicans were convinced that the Administration's rosy outlook was a load of BS.

Things aren't getting better; they're getting worse, said Nebraska's Republican Senator, Chuck Hagel, a Vietnam Veteran, in June 2005. The White House is completely disconnected from reality... The reality is that we are losing in Iraq.

Throw all of that together with threats from Iran and North Korea -- that the White House seems to have no ability or willingness to engage -- and an overextended, worn-out military, and you get quite a bowl of weak mush served up by the guys continuing to brag about how safe they'll keep us.

So, to recap, every Congressional candidate needs to say this over and over again in the next eight weeks:

* A 150 percent increase in the number of Al-Qaeda members in the world while we're focused on a civil war in Iraq
* Attacks on U.S. troops, Iraqi forces and civilians are skyrocketing, despite assurances from the White House that things are going just fine in Iraq
* Our neglected troops in Afghanistan are facing a 1,200 percent increase in Taliban attacks and a 600 percent jump in suicide bombings.

And then repeat again and again and again until November 7.

Oh, and one more thing: Where the hell is Osama bin Laden?
My job is probably safer than yours
At least I CAN spell.

Deregulation may be the topic, but in your dozen or so posts already this morning you've shown yourself to be unable to wrap your mind around the man's name.

I wonder which war is globally safer:
Iraq or Iran.  We don't have enough troops to fight both, and if he brings home troops from Iraq, he will only send them to Iran next.  A nuclear war could mean the extinction of mankind, which I'm beginning to think he and his most radical religious followers want, in order to fulfill the prophecy of the Rapture.  Life is getting more frightening every day.  I don't recognize my America any more.
Washington Post: Commission admits they thought they were being deceived.sm

After C Span aired the 911 Scholars Symposium in LA for 3 days, the questions and information has started to flow.  Looks like some are starting to do some CYA.  There are articles in the NYT, Vanity Fair, and even the Washington Post.  For a change, they are not calling skeptics names.  It is only a baby step, but this has made my day.

3rd grade civic lesson
Posted by Don Rasmussen of CampaignForLiberty. com on 10/30/08

Special thanks to my mom for sending this along.

The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third grade. The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for a class president. We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote.

To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members. We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have. We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot.

The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support. I had never seen Olivia’s mother. The day arrived when they were to make their speeches. Jamie went first. He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best. Every one applauded. He sat down and Olivia came to the podium. Her speech was concise. She said, “If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream.” She sat down. The class went wild. “Yes! Yes! We want ice cream.

She surely would say more. She did not have to. A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn’t sure. Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it. She didn’t know. The class really didn’t care. All they were thinking about was ice cream. Jamie was forgotten. Olivia won by a land slide.

Every time Barack Obama opens his mouth he offers ice cream, and fifty percent of America reacts like nine year olds. They want ice cream. The other fifty percent know they’re going to have to feed the cow.

4th grade teacher's letter to Obama

April 17, 2009

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington , DC 20500

Mr. Obama:

I have had it with you and your administration, sir. Your conduct on your recent trip overseas has convinced me that you are not an  adequate representative of the United States of America collectively or of me personally.

You are so obsessed with appeasing the Europeans and the Muslim world that you have abdicated the responsibilities of the President of the United States of America . You are responsible to the citizens of the United States ... You are not responsible to the people of any other country on Earth.

I personally resent that you go around the world apologizing for the United States telling Europeans that we are arrogant and do not care about their status in the world. Sir, what do you think the First World War and the Second World War were all about if not the consideration of the people of Europe ? Are you brain dead? What do you think the Marshall Plan was all about? Do you not understand or know the history of the 20th century?

Where do you get off telling a Muslim country that the United States does not consider itself a Christian country? Have you not read the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution of the United States?

This country was founded on Judeo-Christian ethics and the principles governing this country, at least until you came along, come directly from this heritage. Do you not understand this?

Your bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia is an affront to all Americans. Our President does not bow down to anyone, let alone the king of Saudi Arabia . You didn't show Great Britain, our best and one of our oldest allies, the respect they deserve yet you bow down to the king of Saudi Arabia .. How dare you, sir! How dare you!

You can't find the time to visit the graves of our greatest generation because you don't want to offend the Germans but make time to visit a mosque in Turkey ... You offended our dead and every veteran when you give the Germans more respect than the people who saved the German people from themselves.

What's the matter with you? I am convinced that you and the members of your administration have the historical and intellectual depth of a mud puddle and should be ashamed of yourselves, all of you.

You are so self-righteously offended by the big bankers and the American automobile manufacturers yet do nothing about the real thieves in this situation, Mr. Dodd, Mr. Frank, Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelic, the Fannie Mae bonuses, and the Freddie Mac bonuses. What do you intend to do about them? Anything? I seriously doubt it.

What about the U.S. House members passing out $9.1 million in bonuses to their staff members - on top of the $2.5 million in automatic pay raises that lawmakers gave themselves?

I understand the average House aide got a 17% bonus. I took a 5% cut in my pay to save jobs with my employer. You haven't said anything about that. Who authorized that? I surely didn't!

Executives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be receiving $210 million in bonuses over an eighteen-month period, that's $45 million more than the AIG bonuses. In fact, Fannie and Freddie executives have already been awarded $51 million - not a bad take.

Who authorized that and why haven't you expressed your outrage at this group who are largely responsible for the economic mess we have right now.

I resent that you take me and my fellow citizens as brain-dead and not caring about what you idiots do. We are watching what you are doing and we are getting increasingly fed up with all of you.

I also want you to know that I personally find just about everything you do and say to be offensive to every one of my sensibilities. I promise you that I will work tirelessly to see that you do not get a chance to spend two terms destroying my beautiful country.

Sincerely,
Every real American

First day of 7th Grade English Class in Fort Collins, CO

My daughter is seething!  On her first day of school, my granddaughter's 7th grade English teacher instructed her students to copy the following from a handwritten overhead display:

English    8/22/05

4 success keys

1.  Graduate from high school.

2.  Get a job - keep it, no matter how much money.

3.  Never have a baby out of wedlock.

4.  Get married and stay married.

Now, I obviously don't know how many students are in this English class who were born out of wedlock, but I do know of ONE:  My granddaughter.  Can someone tell me please what this has to do with English?  I'm as furious as my daughter is, and I don't know who to contact or complain to about this.  My daughter had a rather uneventful meeting with the principal regarding this, so no help is likely to come from that area.

I'd appreciate input and opinions regarding this from rational-thinking people.  Thanks in advance.

You should retake grade school American History.
You don't seem to remember the basic foundation of this country, and the incredible amount of faith the Founding Fathers placed in God.

From the Declaration of Independence:

"That they are endowed by their Creator..."

"With a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence..."

"...the separate and equal status to which Nature and Nature's God entitle them..."

"We, therefore, the Representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appeal to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions."

For goodness sakes, CHURCH SERVICES were held in the House of Representatives on Sundays.

Just an FYI.
Smoke and mirrors? It's math. Like, second grade math.
I don't understand your attack.

A little addition, a little subtraction, a tiny bit of multiplication. It's not all that hard to understand.

If you have questions, ask them. Unless you just don't want to hear the answer. In that case, I can't help you.
Umph, umph, umph... I feel safer already...nm

Maybe we all should give ourselves
a mini bail-out and take a tax holiday next April by filing hundreds of millions of extensions.
I can give you my take on it.....
he is trying to give tax breaks to them in order to get them out from under the heavy tax burden put ON them by Democrats which caused them to outsource in the first place. If corporate taxes are lower here that only encourages companies to keep their employees here, their operations here, and even encourages overseas companies to but divisions here and employ even more Americans. It is just common sense if you look at it on the face of it. We have the second highest corporate/business taxes in the entire world. If you had a business, would you not want to make money? We ask employers to do huge benefits packages for employees, and then turn right around and tax them into oblivion. They have to do something...either offshore or go under. High taxes and big government are NOT helpful to business, and if business does not thrive, we the people don't either.
Yes, but it would only give those who
act like fools now regardless of their situation an excuse to be hostile. More intelligent people might harbor deep feelings but the ignorant ones will be out on the streets acting like they normally would, only worse.
Give me an 0-B-A-M-A and what do you have?...

Okay.....I will give you that....sm
Some are Christians....but look at what only a few were able to accomplish on 9/11. Think of what thousands more could accomplish. Look at what Hitler and Idi Amin and Saddam Hussein were able to accomplish. They were not the majority in their respective countries, but they were able to exterminate millions of people. Are you ready for that? And don't think it could never happen in America.

I'm afraid of his "form of thinking"...  "world view, plans and policies". His voting record leaves something to be desired. He is not focusing on the middle class, but is focusing on the have-nots.

His "voting record, his biography?" Not good. His "accomplishments"? What, that he came up so fast in government? That's a little quizzical. How did he accomplish that?

I am truly worried about his "orientation towards the future," his "multicultural global outlook, his global appeal". Love for his country? We shall see.

We know he loves his family. That I won't argue with, but other things you wrote, yes. I'm not sure he has the gumption to do it all.

this package an A. It is so complicated and I am getting mixed messages all over the place. We have to wrap Iraq up (that'll save us $12 billion a month) - don't know how they'll accomplish that and then there's Afghanistan, what a mess. They have to do something and they have to do it now. We have witnessed how the "free market" will take care of it - it won't. I am disgusted and disappointed with Congress. The longer this freefall continues, the longer it will be before the banks can extend credit. And, I agree with Obama, cap the CEOs salaries as long as they are accepting taxpayers money. STOPPING spending is what everyone is doing right now.....and the freefall continues. Spending to stimulate the economy seems to be our only option right now. This country has so may ills - it can't be boiled down to a couple of paragraphs.

I don't like it when they give

military information either.  I also cringe when I see documentaries on how our weapons are made and what they do.  Nothing like giving the enemy a play by play on what we are doing and how our weapons are supposed to work.

As far as I am concerned, we don't need to know every little thing like that.  It puts us at a disadvantage and I personally feel it endangers our troops just throwing out information like that.

I will give you this....

I'm sure that there were some folks there that were there basically because they hate Obama.  But you cannot stereotype everyone into that group.  I, for one, don't hate Obama.  I wasn't there trying to have him impeached for being black....okay.  It amazes me that you people tell conservatives to be openminded, at the same time you can be some of the most closed minded of all of us.  You want us to see things from your point of view and yet at the same time spit on our point of view.

We are called racist and unpatriotic for disagreeing with our current president and yet it was quite okay to disagree with Bush.  You want to cry and whine about how this is about Obama and how we hate Obama and yet you say nothing of the black people who voted for Obama merely because he was black.....or about the black people who continue to support him merely because he is black.  If you want to throw up the race card, by all mean do it but please report the racism from all sides.  I'm not saying all black people voted for Obama for that reason.....but some did.  I'm sure some white people didn't vote him for because he is black.....but that isn't the reason for all of us.  You can't use racism as a cop out for everything here.

If the tea parties were truly about hating Obama and all brought about by racism....then by all means we have a right to be ridiculed because that would be a wrong reason to protest and would show how bigotted we are.  However, that WAS NOT the reason behind the tea parties.  It wasn't even about Obama entirely.  It was about GOVERNMENT and that includes the president, pubs, and crats as well as any independent that might be in there if there are any.

It amazes me that liberal groups can protest and be physical with people in their protests and spray paint graffiti and that is okay but when concerned Americans get together in protest where there is no violence and no destruction of public or private property.....you all scream and call us hate mongers.....are you kidding me?

There may not have been many black people in the crowd but there were some out there.  I don't recall seeing any burning crosses.  There were no Obama effigies hung from a rope....although I do recall one of Sarah Palin being hung during the campaign at someone's house during Halloween and I guess that was okay, huh?

Double standards and the race card.....I'm sick sick sick of it.

I give up
You don't get what I just said. The money was used for something else whether is was supposed to be or not. Check the history. The money was "borrowed" for other purposes. I also acknowledged that it is paid by current workers and that the benefit is determined by what you earned and not what you paid in, but what you earned would be very tied to what you paid in. The more you earned, the more you paid. I will say one last time this system was supposed to be a savings acct for retirement. No, my own actual dollars would not be paid to me, but if I paid in, I should be paid out. The govt had no right to squander that surplus thus leaving the system unable to provide for those citizens who worked hard, paid in and who trusted them with the money. Most seniors could have done a lot better putting their own dollars in their own bank rather than having the govt do their investing for them. That is all this boils down to whether you wish to acknowledge it not. I am done and gone.
I don't think you give Bush

Although I totally agree with EVERYTHING you said, I'm sure that Bush will find a way to keep all the kids of his rich "base" out of combat, the same way he was kept out of combat by his rich dad.  Maybe if Dubya had the GUTS to see some combat action on his own, he'd think twice before sending our children out to die for a bogus war that he needs because he feels that no president could be considered truly successful without one military "win" under his belt.

He said this in 1999, TWO YEARS before 9/11:

"My father had all this political capital built up when he drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait and he wasted it." He went on, 'If I have a chance to invade…, if I had that much capital, I'm not going to waste it. I'm going to get everything passed that I want to get passed and I'm going to have a successful presidency.'"

He's beyond moronic.  What kind of SUBHUMANOID USES 9/11 and all its victims as an EXCUSE to do what he's wanted to do all along?

And yes, you'd better believe there's going to be a draft.  I have 2 reasons for believing that.

1.  Because, as you said, we can't meet recruitment quotas because our bright young people are opening their eyes and aren't willing to die in an unnecessary war for a government that does nothing but lie; and

2. Read my lips:  BECAUSE HE PROMISED THERE WOULDN'T BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
