All I know...

I don't know much about it except that he openly admits using drugs as a teenager.  He revealed all of this in a book he wrote fresh out of law school, apparently, when he was in his early 30s.  It was before he entered politics, so that could be why he is so candid in the book. I would also be interested to hear more about this and plan to read his books eventually. From everything I know about him I doubt he would talk to high school students about drug use without telling them about the severe consequences that can result and warning them against it, as that is what I think any intelligent, responsible adult would do, but that's just my guess!  I would be interested to see a transcript of the entire speech he gave to the high school students.  Here is a portion of an article I found about this issue. (link to whole article below)

"In an interview during his Senate race two years ago, Obama said he admitted using drugs because he thought it was important for "young people who are already in circumstances that are far more difficult than mine to know that you can make mistakes and still recover.

"I think that, at this stage, my life is an open book, literally and figuratively," he said. "Voters can make a judgment as to whether dumb things that I did when I was a teenager are relevant to the work that I've done since that time.'"
