Racism and bigotry exist. Hate speech that plays on fear and seeks to divide (i.e., associations with terrorists, Black Liberation theology advocate, straight up Marxist/socialist, etc) escalates racism and bigotry. Crackpots abound. The result? Violence, crime and assassination plots emerge and SS investigates.

It is irresponsible for a campaign or candidate to contribute in ANY WAY to this cycle. You are mistaken to suggest that there was no hate speech in those rallies. Even McCain recognized it toward the end when he dealt with the elder in his audience who was "scared" of Obama...after he has tolerated it for weeks and weeks. It still did not put a muzzle on Palin.

If the Secret Service is seeing a connection between Palin rallies and an increase in assassination plots, it might be worth a little pondering, instead of tacit dismissals, deflection and denial. BTW, the reason they did not hear anything against McCain and Palin at Obama rallies is, well...because there was nothing to hear.

No one said Palin was responsible for the Islamic fundamental extremist "murtad" point of view and it is disingenuous of you to try to change the subject in that direction. The subject is hate speech and homeland assassination plots on the blogosphere.

Palin and McCain are responsible for the content of their own campaign speeches....yes indeedy...and for the consequences that became evident on the Internet in response to them. They had a choice. They took the low road during their campaign and, in the end, they got exactly what they earned and what they deserved. Palin was not entirely truthful all the time, whether you realize it or not.

Your last sentence is a prime example of veiled hate speech, intentional or not. If feeds on fear and is divisive. The implications are that somehow an Obama presidency puts the nation in peril from the outside MORE than a McCain presidency. You never know what sort of trigger-happy whack job will read that spin it around into his or hers own "last straw."

You might try connecting the dots between
blaring Obama speeches. There was nothing dignified about the blood, sweat and tears that took us from there to here. The historical significance of an Obama victory cannot be overstated. I grew up before the civil rights movement was around to see MLK lead this fight and take it to its destination. I cannot begin to express to you how fortunate I feel to still be here as witness to this milestone. This particular aspect of the event is a victory for us all. I found this post earlier and was amazed to see how well a Canadian observer captured the moment for me.

After I connect those dots, I see African-Americans voting for a man based solely on his race.

Not because they agree with his politics or think he's the best man for the job, but because he's a black man period.  For the record, Obama is absolutely no MLK.

This election was not about race for me either.  I disagree with Obama's stand on the morality issues.  I disagree with Obama on his political issues.  I don't think the man has any experience running anything, and now we give him the entire country to experiement with?!?!!?  He has too many shady characters in his past.  He's as slick as a snake.

Watch for a lot of upheaval and racial tension throughout the nation in the next few months.  My point is this, your man wins the election and instead of behaving in a dignified manner and celebrating appropriately, many will riot in the streets and act like raving lunatics.  It is so unbelievably sureal.

I feel like I smack dab in the middle of one of those end of the world scenarios!
