There are so many things that I don't agree with him on. You can't raise taxes for small businesses in this time of crisis. You can't have all of these government assisted programs and only tax the rich because that won't be enough to cover all the expenses. He will have to tax us all including the middle class which he professes to want to help even though "spreading the wealth" will keep us down in the middle class because we won't be able to afford to make it into the upper tax bracket. Basically his plans are aimed to help the lowlife scum who don't want to work. As for his healthcare......like Oldtimer said below.....you can't make insurance companies pay for pre-existing conditions like that. If no one wants to pay for health insurance until they have a major illness.....these insurance companies are supposed to pay for a pre-existing condition when this person is just now paying insurance premiums. The insurance companies won't have any money to pay out if that is how it will work because no one will want to pay for insurance until something major happens. It just won't work that way because it can't.

Obama is a socialists through and through. I'm tired of the media and his supporters ignoring his associations. I'm tired of people throwing up the race card. It is just absolutely ridiculous. Just because I'm a white woman not voting for Obama....that doesn't make me racist. Yet you never hear about the people voting for Obama just because he is black.....is that not also racist?

This whole election is just screwed up. I hope to God that this next debate has something in it worth watching and I hope McCain tears Obama a new butthole!

WASHINGTON (AP) - "That wasn't me," President Barack Obama said on his 100th day in office, disclaiming responsibility for the huge budget deficit waiting for him on Day One.

It actually was him - and the other Democrats controlling Congress the previous two years - who shaped a budget so out of balance.

And as a presidential candidate and president-elect, he backed the twilight Bush-era stimulus plan that made the deficit deeper, all before he took over and promoted spending plans that have made it much deeper still.

Obama met citizens at an Arnold, Mo., high school Wednesday in advance of his prime-time news conference. Both forums were a platform to review his progress at the 100-day mark and look ahead.

At various times, he brought an air of certainty to ambitions that are far from cast in stone.

His assertion that his proposed budget "will cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term" is an eyeball-roller among many economists, given the uncharted terrain of trillion-dollar deficits and economic calamity that the government is negotiating.

He promised vast savings from increased spending on preventive health care in the face of doubts that such an effort, however laudable it might be for public welfare, can pay for itself, let alone yield huge savings.

A look at some of his claims Wednesday:

OBAMA: "Number one, we inherited a $1.3 trillion deficit.... That wasn't me. Number two, there is almost uniform consensus among economists that in the middle of the biggest crisis, financial crisis, since the Great Depression, we had to take extraordinary steps. So you've got a lot of Republican economists who agree that we had to do a stimulus package and we had to do something about the banks. Those are one-time charges, and they're big, and they'll make our deficits go up over the next two years." - in Missouri.

THE FACTS:

Congress controls the purse strings, not the president, and it was under Democratic control for Obama's last two years as Illinois senator. Obama supported the emergency bailout package in President George W. Bush's final months - a package Democratic leaders wanted to make bigger.

To be sure, Obama opposed the Iraq war, a drain on federal coffers for six years before he became president. But with one major exception, he voted in support of Iraq war spending.

The economy has worsened under Obama, though from forces surely in play before he became president, and he can credibly claim to have inherited a grim situation.

Still, his response to the crisis goes well beyond "one-time charges."

He's persuaded Congress to expand children's health insurance, education spending, health information technology and more. He's moving ahead on a variety of big-ticket items on health care, the environment, energy and transportation that, if achieved, will be more enduring than bank bailouts and aid for homeowners.

The nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimated his policy proposals would add a net $428 billion to the deficit over four years, even accounting for his spending reduction goals. Now, the deficit is nearly quadrupling to $1.75 trillion.

OBAMA: "I think one basic principle that we know is that the more we do on the (disease) prevention side, the more we can obtain serious savings down the road. ... If we're making those investments, we will save huge amounts of money in the long term." - in Missouri.

THE FACTS: It sounds believable that preventing illness should be cheaper than treating it, and indeed that's the case with steps like preventing smoking and improving diets and exercise. But during the 2008 campaign, when Obama and other presidential candidates were touting a focus on preventive care, the New England Journal of Medicine cautioned that "sweeping statements about the cost-saving potential of prevention, however, are overreaching." It said that "although some preventive measures do save money, the vast majority reviewed in the health economics literature do not."

And a study released in December by the Congressional Budget Office found that increasing preventive care "could improve people's health but would probably generate either modest reductions in the overall costs of health care or increases in such spending within a 10-year budgetary time frame."

OBAMA: "You could cut (Social Security) benefits. You could raise the tax on everybody so everybody's payroll tax goes up a little bit. Or you can do what I think is probably the best solution, which is you can raise the cap on the payroll tax." - in Missouri.

THE FACTS: Obama's proposal would reduce the Social Security trust fund's deficit by less than half, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.

That means he would still have to cut benefits, raise the payroll tax rate, raise the retirement age or some combination to deal with the program's long-term imbalance.

Workers currently pay 6.2 percent and their employers pay an equal rate - for a total of 12.4 percent - on annual wages of up to $106,800, after which no more payroll tax is collected.

Obama wants workers making more than $250,000 to pay payroll tax on their income over that amount. That would still protect workers making under $250,000 from an additional burden. But it would raise much less money than removing the cap completely.

Lie Number 1: I Won�t Tax Your Health Benefits

What Obama said on the campaign trail (Newport News, Va., October 4, 2008):

�So here�s John McCain�s radical plan in a nutshell: he taxes health care benefits for the first time in history� Well, I don�t think that�s right.�

What Obama says now:

Obama ally Sen. Max Baucus told the Washington Post that Obama is now willing to tax employer-provided health benefits. Baucus said: �Yeah, it�s something that he might consider. That was discussed. It�s on the table.�

Limiting or ending the tax-free status of health benefits makes sense if it�s used to cut other taxes and put all health insurance�employer-provided or not�on a level playing field. The existing benefit is an artifact of World War II-era price controls and creates a tax penalty for people who buy their own insurance.

But unlike the McCain plan, which would have taxed employer-provided health benefits and used the money to pay for a new health care tax credit, the plan now being considered by Democrats, including Obama, would tax employer-health benefits to fund increased government health care spending. For the 250 million-plus Americans who already have health insurance, this is a raw deal�they pay more taxes and get nothing in return.

Lie Number 2: I Won�t Force You to Buy Health Insurance

What Obama said on the campaign trail (Janesville, Wis., February 13, 2008):

�The main difference between my plan and Senator Clinton�s plan is that she�d require the government to force you to buy health insurance and she said she�d �go after� your wages if you don�t.�

What Obama says now:

President Obama sent a letter to Democratic Senators Ted Kennedy and Max Baucus yesterday that says�using the new code word �responsibility� to refer to the same kind of mandate he slammed in Hillary�s plan:

�I understand the Committees are moving towards a principle of shared responsibility � making every American responsible for having health insurance coverage, and asking that employers share in the cost. I share the goal of ending lapses and gaps in coverage that make us less healthy and drive up everyone�s costs, and I am open to your ideas on shared responsibility.�

While President Obama did say he would like a waiver process in hardship cases, there is no reason to have a mandate other than to force people to buy insurance who don�t want to, mostly young people who are healthy and want to spend their limited income on their young careers and families. According to the Census Bureau, about 60 percent of the uninsured are under age 35, with the highest rates in the 18-24 bracket (28.1 percent uninsured) and the 25-34 (25.7 percent uninsured) bracket. This is about forcing some people who don�t want health insurance to pay for other people through a new government program. It�s more spreading the wealth around.

President Obama is poised to accept this provision for the same reason Sen. Clinton proposed it�to buy off insurance companies. Democrats learned a lesson from the 1993 HillaryCare fight when the insurance companies stopped a Washington health care takeover. The mandate is a giveaway to insurance companies to buy their support this time by forcing healthy young people who use less health care to pay insurance premiums.

Lie Number 3: If You Aren�t Rich, I Won�t Raise Your Taxes

What Obama said on the campaign trail (September 12, 2008, Dover, N.H.):

�I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.�

What Obama says now:

Well, it�s hard to keep up because new ideas are floated every day, but they all would involve taxing people who make less than $250,000. In fact, even his income tax hikes for the rich have now been dropped down to start at $235,000. Then there�s the soft drink excise tax, the cap-and-trade energy taxes, and most recently the VAT, a form of national sales tax. And of course the tax on health benefits I mentioned above would also break the only-tax-the-rich pledge.

What all these proposals have in common: we all pay, big-time, likely trillions of dollars in higher taxes for �free� government health care. In fact, that�s probably the biggest lie of all�that government health care is free.

their believing this because they are experiencing it. You all honestly think everyone is stupid. All you have to do is step into a Wal-Mart, a Target, or have your kid come home and tell you that if you wish people Merry Christmas or bring any Christian symbols to school they will be sent home and/or punished.

I don't have a problem with the other holidays, but it is discrimination when you can post the other holiday symbols in the public, square, businesses, or schools but you cannot post anything about Christmas or the reason for Christmas which is Christ.

On the mortgage debacle, I say let the one's who took bit off more than they could chew, fail. They put themselves in this position.

Those that have been paying their mortgages all along and are now trying to keep their homes should be helped since the prices fell so far so fast.

Bigger is not alwasy better and some people need to learn that the hard way. Home prices went too high to fast. The bubble was bound to burst. Those that bought into those inflated prices that they couldn't afford should not have done it. Look at the couple in FL. They waited and saved to buy their dream home. They wound up buying a home that was foreclosed on for only $80K. The house had sold to someone for $235,000.

Why do people need bathrooms as large as a bedroom anyway? Whose idea was that? How long do you spend in a bathroom every day anyway? A tub as big as a swimming pool? a fire place? Terrazine(sp) tile? Subway tile? Granite counters? The cost is outrageous. We went to buy a separate shower for our extra bathroom 5 years ago. It cost $150. We went back a year later and it was up to $450. Needless to say, we still don't have a shower for our extra bathroom.

My list of people who started this housing crap are the developers, the companies who make the products that go into the homes, the real estate agents who put the price tag on the home after the developer gave their price, and the mortgage lenders/banks who pushed the bad loans.

Seems to me he thought he found something and before confirming it, he started appearing on talk shows. At the most, he knowingly lied and wanted to tell his base what they wanted to hear.

I suppose the true test of his character will be if he comes clean and admits he was wrong.

Other than that, I find it increasingly difficult on a daily basis to understand why some of these politicians do what they do, both Republican and Democrat alike.

I will not vote for someone who wants to create more government assisted programs. We are in deep crap now because of government spending. That will only make our economy worse. All of our money will be put into government programs, the spending will go up instead of down, and all the money we dish out in taxes to pay for all of this crap will most definitely not go towards our deficit. It will only get bigger than it is now and it is HUGE right now. There is no way that Obama can only go after rich people and tax them more. It still wouldn't be enough to pay for all these "plans" he has. God help us!

It may just be way too late for Obama to get us out of the horrible mess we are in. We are fiddling while Rome burns - I sound like Chicken Little but indeed the sky IS falling - Frightening!

The BDI has dropped 94% in a short few weeks which means raw materials, grains, ores, steel, iron, cement and all imported products for food manufacturing and product manufacturing even though we actually do very little of that here in the US."

Iran's increasingly isolated opposition leader effectively ended his role in street protests, saying he'll seek permits for future rallies. A leading cleric demanded in a nationally broadcast sermon Friday that leaders of the unrest be punished harshly and that some are "worthy of execution."

Though this is the one rare subject on which you and I disagree (for reasons I totally get), still I am always interested in your insight. I am wondering if you wouldn't mind posting it again.

with the no-First-Dog thing too. Maybe that was an attempt to humanize himself, since many people are said to like dogs and dog owners? Then after the election he no longer needed to appear warm and fuzzy?

I don't know, if you figure it out, let me know. Just so terribly disappointed, I was really counting on that pooch.

They don't want to debate. All they want to do is attack and chase away people who don't agree with them. They don't want liberals on their board, but they refuse to practice what they preach.

This is the reason the administrator created a conservative and liberal board. They have their own board, but that's not enough for them. It's typical of how they must control everyone's thoughts and deeds and even which God they worship.

You ought to read the venom you spew

you all are supposed to be loving and tolerant people however, you never are loving and tolerant on this board. People try to discuss things with you, and you all go postal and start shooting them. You all are a sad, sad bunch of people. I feel real sorry for the people you come in contact with in real life. Of course you are probably nicer in real life...at least I hope so. You just bomb people here to get some kind of sick little pleasure.

Mean people like you all are the reason these boards have to be separate. Mean people suck.
