I really like this guy...(sm)

I think he did hit the nail on the head.  No, I don't think Hillary was a great pick if you're looking for experience, and yes, I do think she's kind of ridden it out on Bill's coattails.  However, I don't think Obama's pick of her was really for experience.  I think he picked her for her name.  As Christopher noted, there have been some rather questionabe donors, but ironically I think this might be a good thing.  It might be that those very associations may help fascilitate opening future political discussion.

For example:  Andre Agapov, a Russian mining company owner who allegedly worked hand-in-hand with Russian secret police for ex-president Boris Yeltsin.

Now here's a shady character, to say the least.  The good thing about having an open dialogue with this guy ironically is his connections to the Russian government.  Considering the fact that the nuclear disarmament thing has been completely ignored (obviously by both sides), not to mention other ongoing issues, this may provide an opportunity to initiate talks to restore some kind of agreement.

I hope this is why she was selected by Obama, as opposed to just a poliltical favor, and if it was because of a pollitical favor hopefully Obama sees the opportunities this pick opens up.

Bill Clinton, in my opinion, was really good when it came to foreign policy, and he does have the experience we need.  And, as we all know, if one Clinton is involved, so is the other.  So, while Hillary might not have the experience, she definitely has a hands-on tutor (so to speak).

I think Obama killed several birds with one stone on this one.  He's given the image that he can work with his *enemies,* he's put someone in this position with a world-wide recognized name, he appeased Hillary, and he has gained the council of Bill without blatently picking Bill himself.

There are a lot of people on both sides of the aisle who look at this and don't agree because they think it's the Clinton administration all over again.  However, given the fact that Bill was president and had to contend with some of these people in that capacity (not always pleasant), and then can turn around and go talk to these people and find common ground is, in my opinion, quite a remarkable achievement.  This is the very thing that Obama needs to be able to do.  And yes, Hillary is the one in the position, not Bill.  But, I honestly think that Hillary is the pawn in this deal and the real substance of the position will come from Bill himself.

That's not to say that Hillary wouldn't do a good job by herself.  I think she's a very intelligent individual and quite capable, but like Christopher said, she (by herself) would have been a more logical pick for something like health care or education, but the reality is that she comes as a package deal -- one that I think will be beneficial in the long run.

Or, I'm just completely wrong and the position will go to he11 in a handbasket.  LOL.
