I stand corrected on the Vietnam number

Posted By: American Girl on 2005-06-28
In Reply to: Vietnam war total - Need to correct yourself

but people who say this is "another Vietnam" and a quagmire is also an erroneous statement.....1,700 is a far cry from 58,000, although EVERY life lost in the fight for freedom is very valuable and not to be taken lightly and I don't think anybody does.....

    I stand corrected

You are right. I did apply a double standard to a point.  Everybody has a past.  We've all done things we're ashamed of.  My beef  was with how he made it all seem like a joke, but again you are right.

    I apologize...

    Stand corrected
No, I'm advocating blowing a dictator away who is genocidal and dangerous and has committed war crimes for which he is on trial for now, and the evidence is overwhelming. Big difference there.
You are so right. I stand corrected.

What you said and every other bad thing in the world.  Bad Bad BAD Democrats.

Bush won't send any of his kids to die for his war.  Only other people's kids.  BTW, LoL at margarita bimbos.

Speaking of margaritas, people convicted of felonies (such as DUI) aren't allowed to vote in the United States.

But they're allowed to be political candidates and sometimes they become President and Vice President.  (Bush: Arrested for DUI and again for possession of cocaine.  Cheney:  Arrested twice for DUI).

The loophole is they probably weren't technically convicted.  They would have been if they were everyday normal people and not privileged and rich, but how ironic is that?  :-(

    Ok, I stand corrected....
Thanks, however of small note (and this is only me) I don't consider the people on Good Morning America to be news people. Yes, I know they are reading the news. I used to watch it until it just seemed to be too much like The View or Regis & Kathy (okay you see how long its been since I've seen that show). I've just never heard anyone on CNN, Fox, MSNBC, or those main ones (or even our local news) tell her to get out. They were all for her to keep going. But I do stand corrected and thank you.
    I stand corrected

    Yes, I stand corrected
They just mentioned it on the news, but I didn't hear the justification for it. It seems counterintuitive to me to tax the shrinking number of employers who are providing insurance. I would think they would be providing tax credits if the goal is to get every American insured.
Yep...I stand corrected. He went into rehab after it....
he was addicted to prescription drugs. He was driving under that influence...not drinking. As you said, he is still in the House.
okay - I was wrong and I stand corrected. nm

I stand corrected - sheesh! who can you believe anymore
I'm totally confused with everything going on now adays. I don't know truth from smears. You would think if someone is actually putting their name to something they would be telling the truth due to serious outcomes of false accusations.

So how can we tell if something we hear on TV, radio or internet is true or not?

Makes me just not want to vote anymore and turn off the TV and put my head in the sand and ignore all going on. I just don't know what to believe anymore.
Amanda - I stand corrected - thank you - see message
When I'm wrong I'll admit it and this time I'm wrong. That is in such bad taste.

If parents want to dress their kids in political figures that's one thing (though I think the kids would rather be ghosts, witches, princesses, etc) but to try and make a political statement and use the excuse that its Halloween and in good fun is just in bad taste (IMO). I find it equally offensive no matter who it is.

I think its bad taste and think everyone should take down everything. I find it just as disgusting as I found the remark Hillary said about staying in because an assassination could happen. When you talk about death of people that just gets to me.

So Amanda thank you, I do stand corrected and am humbled. There are McCain supporters who do the same as Obama supporters.

What happened to decency in America and leave the halloween costumes to kids and people going to parties.
I stand corrected. It was the Illinois Abortion Act of 1975.
    http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs3.asp?ActID=1928&ChapAct=720%C2%A0ILCS%C2%A0510/&ChapterID=53&ChapterName=CRIMINAL+OFFENSES&ActName=Illinois+Abortion+Law+of+1975.

    The war in Vietnam was
going on long before Johnson was in office.  I did not post to debate his record, merely pointing out that it is possible to respond to hurricanes in a more timely manner and in person than the current administration did. 76 people died in that hurricane and Johnson thought there was nothing else more important than his being there where the country he was president of was in trouble, a stark contrast indeed.
    Ask a Vietnam Vet.
    They'll tell you.
    Vietnam war total

Total U.S. military deaths in vietnam was 58,000.

Perhaps your sources of information are erroneous or just not well researched.  And using common sense I believe reference was made to the course and justification of the Vietnam War, not the total casualties.

    friend in Vietnam
I had two friend who went to Vietnam, one returned..and yes, he too was traumatized emotionally.  He returned to his parents house and I used to stay over all the time as it was a *hang out house*..had a pool, large yard, you name it..we all hung out there (smile)..anyway, John was in Vietnam in 1969..he used to sent tapes home to his parents and we would all listen..when he returned to his parents house, forget it..you could not wake him in the morning, you would make a noise or call his name and he would jump up ready to fight you..He lived like this for a few years then he married..Since then I lost contact but I can tell ya, this guy had major issues trying to reconnect with **civilization**..I ache for the soldiers who are now fighting..the dead, the maimed and the emotionally and spiritually destroyed forever..FOR WHAT??????
Who was the victor in Vietnam?

    WWII and Vietnam

I think that you have made a crucial error in believing that WWII and Vietnam are at all similar.  WWII and the US Civil War were also very different wars.  There are even major differences between Iraq and Vietnam and the Korean War although some historians would also find greater similarities in these three wars.  You may rewrite the history of wars as well as US history to fit your agenda of political hatred, but you will never be able to present a convincing argument if you have completely questionable sources and facts to back it up.

You negate most historical records, which I admit often have some aspects of questionable validity, and you seem to re-create a fictionalized account to accommodate your rather far-out-there belief system based in hatred of the left.  You rearrange and fictionalize facts and history to make your point.  You provide spurious sources for your facts (I could probably find sources that prove that the earth is populated by aliens from Mars if I looked hard enough).

I also notice on the conservative board constant condemnation of liberals, leftists as a whole.  We are characterized as stupid, immoral, crazy, unpatriotic, love the terrorists, cowards, angry, on and on.  You are condemning at least 50 percent of the citizens of this country with those adjectives. Doesn't seem at all patriotic to me.  Your group also points out nuts (like those who would spit on veterans) as representing the liberal mindset.  I realize I am not going to be able to convince you of the great disservice you do to yourself with a narrow and naive mindset like that.  I know many Republicans and with the exception of possibly one, none are as condemning and narrow-minded as the posts I see on your board.  Thank heavens for that.  While I have participated in bashing and see bashing on the liberal board, it rarely occurs in a generalized fashion toward all right-wingers.  As I said, that would be a very naive assumption and the root of bigotry and prejudice and ultimately hatred is in the grouping of all peoples as being of one mindset.....think of Muslims, blacks in the south pre-Civil Rights, Native Americans in the 1800s (and even now).  So easy to ridicule and oppress when we don't see folks as individuals.  Actually the comments I see made about the liberal mindset are so far removed from the reality of most liberals in the United States it verges on the ridiculous, well no, it doesn't verge on the ridiculous, it IS ridiculous.

As far as your further condemnation of Democrats as far as blacks and their allegiances, I believe most informed political science folks would be the first to admit that the party doctrines have evolved over time.  What probably counts most is the current party belief system.  Just some common sense.

    End of sermon.

The Vietnam Vets call McCain "Songbird." sm
Google it. If what they say is true, he is a traitor. Hopefully, he will be the next target of the Swiftboat Vets. You are right, people will only see what they want to see no matter how much evidence you put in their faces. McCain is a RINO, not a conservative. He is also CFR (a globalist), which is even worse. I wonder who in the heck is voting for him. All the conservatives I know are freaking out about him being the possible nominee.
Yes, but the difference is, no one corrected YOU.

No, but I corrected myself because I know they're

    quack number 1
I am the OP.  I never said he WAS the antichrist.  I think I said I am not saying he is the antichrist....... or something to that effect.  Anyway, he doesnt have to be anything more than Barack Obama who is not following God to me, for me to not vote for him.  I will be quacking all the way to Heaven by the way!
Yes. There are a number of other lawsuits.
the only place this can play out now could be in the Congress in impeachment proceedings. My HYPOTHETICAL question would be what would the republican party have to gain by pushing this already dead issue forward when clearly the priority is the very REAL issue of the economy? How well do you think that would play out for the pub party if they promote impeachment in the middle of it all. What would be the end result? Biden as president? A supermajority still seated? Call for another election after popular mandate has put the democratic party in the White House, the Senate and the Congress? It is a lose/lose proposition coming out of the party that claims to put country first.
So what does that make you? Number 2?
    .
Well, your erstwhile cohorts corrected my typo...so....
however, my point was more directed at the progressive. Your attitude toward unwed mothers is about as far from progressive as I have ever seen....?
If you compare the number of pedophiles in the
general population to the number of pedophiles in the Catholic priest population, you are going to find a rather alarming difference in the percentages.

I am amazed at the number of people...sm
Who would vote democrat this year but are not simply because Obama is half black.  I have heard this more times than I can say.  I live in the south and I know there are sometimes racist people here.  I am a southerner myself, born here.  But I believe Obama is a better choice because we can't endure another 4 years of the same policies Bush has.  Some people have even said I don't like McCain but I won't vote for a black president.  Well I don't care what color he is.  I want to give someone with new policies a chance.  He may not be good but he may.  The fact that people are being so prejudice for his skin color is just ridiculous.  It is just an unbelievable amount of people who are saying this around here.  I went to a halloween party and everyone was like oh my gosh we may have a black president.  I am like oh well if he can do the job what does it matter?  I am like well if he was white based on his policies would you vote for him?  If the answer is yes then that is just being prejudice.  I am not for interracial couples or any of that but when you can't even vote for a black person you have problems.
    number 1 Jesus freak here
I truly feel so bad for you guys.  You look at us like we are crazy, hateful, wrong, and judgmental.  You guys just dont get the big picture do you?  That is such a shame.
Well, I got a fair number of other responses....sm
..from people who got the point. Sorry if it zoomed past you two!

Note to self: There are a couple of simpletons on the board. Do not use parody or metaphor when writing, or you'll lose them.
I've already got your number just the big bad aka dutchess.

you think only 3 have been tortured, I think the number is much higher....sm
That might be the reason that the former administration wanted to keep them forever imprisoned, so that they cannot talk!
Bush's war crimes are being corrected by the Wonderful BARACK!!!
Republicans recoil at the thought of us preserving human rights around the world.

And that 's not the total number either because it keeps rising. They just can't stay away.
    I think it's hysterical.
Health insurance is my number 1 issue

I agree with some of what you said about the state representatives being held accountable.  I did vote for Senate candidates in the last election based on their stances on healthcare.  One of them has been working tirelessly (with many others) to expand CHIP health insurance to kids to more middle-income children in the state, and he was successful!  Now that the income bracket was raised, my 6-year-old has healthcare again, and I am so grateful! (Bush is threatening to veto the legislation that expanded CHIP to more families, though, so I'm praying he does not do that).

I am relatively young (26) and so many of my friends do not vote.  I am always encouraging them to do just that (whether they vote Democrat or Republican), and I think if Senate recall (I think that's what you called it) was in place, more of them might vote.  For now, we just have to hope they keep their campaign promises in hopes of being re-elected.

I know Congress needs to pass the bills on health insurance, and I know many of the Congressmen (on both sides of the aisle) have been bought and paid for by the insurance companies, and that is very disturbing to me.  That's one of the reasons I like Obama so much - I think he is a good man who has not been "bought and paid for" by any big corporations.

I think America needs to cover all medical costs for our children and our elderly, and I hope more Republicans candidates will address that issue.  We need to take better care of our most helpless citizens.

    well....number one bashes humble beginnings...
what may I ask is wrong with serving your local community?

I don't have a problem with cleaning up the party if it needs cleaning.

She is pro life - GREAT. She is for marriage defined as a man and woman - GREAT.

Murkowski was crooked as a dog's hind leg and she got rid of good ol' boy politics in Alaska - GREAT.

as to lack of experience...better be careful about that one Your #1 chair has less experience than she has. That doesn't hold water.

this poster acts like it is a bad thing to bring up your own party on ethics...I saw that is what politicians SHOULD be doing IMHO. Put service to the people who elected you above your party. GOOD FOR HER!!!
actually 39% of the country is a pretty significant number....
and the deeper a hole you dig for your candidate, the higher than number will climb. He does not want the spotlight that is suddenly in his face...I cannot figure out how all of you can recite his campaign mantra but don't listen to what the man is saying now....lol
Until I developed a sufficient number of cells to even

Yeah, and a large number of those new voters are
coming out saying they will vote for McCain now.

of this country, contributing to the obesity problem and the rising cost of healthcare. Come on, EVERYONE deserves an honest living wage where they can feed, clothe, and house their families, and that is just not happening, in the NorthEast I see it every day, most families are working two or three jobs, really good for the children and marriages, I respectfully think that is Bull (which it tastes like McDonald's and other fast food places put in their burgers). I'm sorry I'm not just going to stand by

    I cannot stand

Michelle Obama.  She just comes off to me as a bitter and arrogant woman.  Joe Biden are just ignorant sometimes.  He is a likeable guy and I like his smile but the words that come out of his mouth....I bet the dems cringe every time they see him start to talk.

I would much rather see McCain and Palin in office.  I don't agree with everything they do, but for the most part....I stand along with them on issues.

I cannot stand behind Obama and the things he stands for.
