Wow, you've learned a word from O'Reilly
tells me you must watch.  Again, exactly what does Rush say that is wrong?  I'm waiting.
I am impressed

25 readers read wee paw post while only 3 looked at samIam. Way to go wp.

I, for one, was not impressed

with Palin's speech....scripted speech....scripted applause.  Still all I know about the GOP is McCain's time spent in the Hanoi Hilton.  I "get it."  Now, what will McCain/Palin do exactly to fix America?????  I'm no fan of either party but Obama certainly lays out a plan, like it or not.

What about the the Bataan Death March of 1942?  There are many more unsung patriotic heroes other than John McCain.  I honor his service but not enough to want to see him the leader of our country.  I notice that he isn't trotting out McBush and Bulldog Cheney to support him.  Wonder why?  He voted with McBush 90% of the time so why would we think anything would change from the status quo?

I'm not impressed
The trouble is that many of us believe everything we read.  This link is so obviously anti-Obama, pro-McCain, I'm not even going to waste my time researching the alleged "facts."
Wow, I am impressed. What a guy.
It takes a special person to want to work with high risk teens. I had 4 teens at one time and it still makes me shudder!
Impressed
Nope, he's not in charge yet, but he can definitely put pressure on the current administration, and just did....LOL.  Thank you Obama!  Current job losses 1.2 mil, just last month 240,000.  If nothing is done while we are waiting for the ceremony on Jan 20, that will cost us an addition 480,000 jobs (if not more) if this trend holds true.
No disrespect...just not impressed.
Every man and woman in the military risks the possibility of becoming a prisoner of war at one time or another. The enemy does not pick only the "special" soldiers to be their prisoners. They take whomever they can get their grubby little hands on!
I think he's just overly impressed with himself.
.
I am impressed by the fact that you . . .
deign to "know" what God thinks!!  Congratulations oh Chosen One.
I am SO impressed with everything Obama stands
<3 Obama
Won't be too impressed with Palin's calling
You do make an excellent point about the ignorant voters. It may be one more reason, but there are plenty of reasons for feminists/Hillary supporters NOT to vote for that ticket. Here's my argument on that.

Feminists, for the most part, are educated, contemporary activists who meticulously dissect women's issues to the bone. In play here in terms of their issues will be such concepts as the sexist, "token" showcase nature of this selection and the blatent bid for Hillary supporters to come and save his sinking ship, his motivations in terms of making the condescending assumption that that women will vote for a woman just because she is a woman and ignore their own core issues, the beauty contestant entourage he seems to like to surround himself with, the Stepford Wife image of an inexperienced VP running mate/wife playing follow the leader behind him and how much respect she can REALLY command among the big boy party cronies whose counterparts she alientated in Alaska. Two major feminist issues of substance would be the fact that to them, she is on the wrong side of Pro-Life/pro-choice and has a record of not supporting fair pay intiatives for women!

The media will step in and have a hey day with this. Just give it a little time. It is their job to stir the pot. For your own sake, if they are stirring yours more than you would like, expand your news source horizons. Keith Olberman and Chris Matthews (MSNBC) would be a good place to start on cable, but there are many other less bash-prone, better informed news sources to consider as well.

Hillary is not likely to stand slently on the sidelines with these issues, either. Look for her to step up to the plate and take this on nanoseconds after the Repubican extravaganza concludes by contrasting herself, her experience, her record, REAL women's issues and her dedication to feminist causes against this janie-come-lately who is poised to steal her spotlight. That "whiner" commment will come back to haunt what's-her-name soon enough. Just be patient.

As for the die-hard followers who DO vote with their genitalia, let them go. Good riddance. They will not make the greatest party loyalist no matter what side of the fence they end up on.

Also, remember what Bill said about being on the right side of history and try to have a little faith. If it is really meant to be, it will happen in spite of McCain and the party's best efforts to highjack the Hope train.
As a Republican I was not real impressed...

by Palin last night.  I thought she spoke well and had a good speech getting the crowd going, but I was sad to see so much bashing from the speakers last night.  I guess as a Rep. I think we should be above that.  .  One of the things that bothered me was Rudy and Sarah going after Obama for his work as a community organizer.  Excuse me, but shouldn't that be a good thing.  I also wished she would have stayed away from the whole bridge to nowhere considering she was all for it until the heat came on that it was pretty much a joke and then she decided she was all against it.  I'm not saying I am crossing party lines but I am not completely sold on the McCain/Palin ticket, and last night's speech certainly didn't clinch it for me either.  I just hope that soon that junk will be pushed aside on her her so we can get to the issues and some actual hardline questions and answers.  Below is a blog post from The Dallas Morning News.  I know, it is just a blog but I thought it had some good points.  Read on.

Why do Republicans mock "community organizer" role?

I really don't understand the mocking of Obama for being a community organizer as a young man.

Giuliani last night: "On the other hand, you have a resume from a gifted man with an Ivy League education. He worked as a community organizer. What? He worked -- I said -- I said, OK, OK, maybe this is the first problem on the resume."

Palin last night: I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities.

Now, the truth is that, starting at age 23, Obama ran a faith-based charity called the Developing Communities Project.

It was made up of eight Catholic parishes when he got there and had one staff member. He was its director, meaning he was in charge. He made decisions about it, including staffing, budgets, etc. And when he left in 1988 to go to law school, he had grown its budget from $70,000 to $400,000, its staff from 1 to 13 people. More important, he created a job training program for this community and a college prep tutoring program.

As mayor, she built a hockey rink/rec center using eminent domain (because apparently there just isn't enough land in Alaska).

And keep in mind the timeline here: Obama did this as a young man BEFORE going to law school, becoming a successful lawyer and a law professor.

I don't think it's right to attack someone for working in a faith-based charity out of college. I think we all have some embarrassing first-jobs in our past. I would not make fun of Palin for being a beauty queen and sports reporter out of college during these same years. Although, I do think Obama's experience shaped his political future a bit better ...

Thanks for the post. I was especially impressed by the last sentence...
of the article. At least they showed both sides (good for them), albeit three paragraphs on Palin and 1 line on Obama. Big sentence tho.
You learned? Obviously not.

I have learned to do this
I now look at the subject line then look at who is posting the message. If its a poster that I don't agree with I don't even open the message. I just move on and it saves a lot of frustration. As for the poster named sam. In the beginning we were "butting heads". I was as much to blame for this, and I always remember what my grandfather used to tell me...not everyone will always agree on politics and religion and therefore just respect what the other person has to say and move on.

I've been reading the posts in the past and in all fairness sam does not do a lot of the original posts. It is other people, then when she gives her opinion (like we are all allowed to do), that's when people start in on her and then claim she's started it all when she didn't. There are even posts that have nothing to do with politics but trying to egg sam into a fight.

So my rule I try and keep is post something and if you don't like sams response just ignore it (don't open it) and ignore it. It sure saves on the nerves. Also, its not fair to ask for someone to be banned, especially when she is not abusive and insulting and just defending her opinion, just as I'm sure you wouldn't want someone asking you to be banned.

P.S. - Sam, it might just be easier for you to change your name. We do respect your right to post messages and answer and respond. I enjoy hearing your opinion on things. I know there are others like me that feel the same way as I've been reading some of the messages. BTW, because of things you have brought up, I have changed the way I look at some things (not everything but some things).

I know it's a political board and people on both sides get into "heated" discussions, but for me I try and not take any of it too seriously. We are all people with feelings and I'm much calmer when I let things go in one ear and out the other.
In that case, I am truly impressed by her ability to get her nose up her own buttocks!
Maybe being a contortionist is her true calling in life!
You cannot type it word for word, just provide a link.

We learned it from you guys

I have learned so much about the economy over...sm
the last week but it has only made me see how much more I don't know.  Pretty scary!  We are all at the mercy of those in Washington and on Wall Street.  Plenty of blame to go around but blame will not get us out of this mess.
thank you - I learned it from Obama -
xx
It appears you are right. sm
And it also appears that everything I said about how we left Vietnam was right.  Even the islamofascists think so. How nice.
Yep, it certainly appears that way, and...
I think the throwing the rev and the church under the bus was just a show anyway. He does believe what was preached there...that's why the man married he and his wife and baptized both of his children. But...Obama is blowing on that pipe and quite a few of the masses seem heck-bent on following him right into the river. Nothing I can do about that...but I won't be voting for him. I won't be a party to putting him in the white house. But, if he gets elected, I have my bumper sticker ready. ;)
From where we sit, it appears you have

Not naturally, learned it from you guys.

You guys are very good teachers, and people generally do learn best by example, you know.

By the way I have another question.  That smut rag by Ann Coulter you enjoy so much....she refers to Bill Clinton as a horny hick.  Now does hick apply to ALL people from Arkansas, or all people with a working class background or just people from Arkansas with a working class background?

The lesson I learned is that Sam has class...you are

What I learned today on C-span

(I hope the spacing comes out okay, apologies if not).  From C-span here are a couple comments.  One by a republican and one by a democrat.  It’s good to know that there are people (democrats & republicans alike) who realize this is a bad deal and are looking out for our best interest and not their own.

Rep. Michael Burgess – R. Texas 26th district

Speaker, I come to the floor today to talk about this 700 billion dollar bill that is in front of us.  I use the term bill advisedly because we have seen no bill.  We are here debating talking points on perhaps one of the largest fundamental change in our nation’s financial system in its history.  And house republicans have been cut out of the process.  Not only have we been cut out of the process, we have also been derided by the leadership of the democratic party and called unpatriotic for not participating.  Mr.  Speaker I have been thrown out of more meetings in this capital in the past 24 hours than I ever thought possible as a duly elected representative of 820,000 citizens of North Texas.  Mr. Speaker, politics is a full contact sport and I understand that, but it is a full contact sport in the light of day in the public arena.  Since we didn’t have hearings, since we didn’t have markups, lets at least put this legislation up on the internet for 24 hours.  That’s what Thomas was made for.  Lets do that and let the American people see what we have done in the dark of night.  After all, I have not gotten any more mail, any more emails on any other subject other than this one that is before us today.  Mr. Speaker I understand we are under martial law as declared by the speaker last night.  I think its ironic house republicans have not been needed for a single thing in this house to assure passage for the last 22 months.  And today we are going to be asked to vote for a bill for political cover because democrats are too weak to stand up to their speaker.  I yield back.

Rep. Marcy Kaptur – D. Ohio 9th District

Mr. Speaker, my message to the American people, don’t let congress seal this wall street deal.  High financial crimes have been committed.  Now congress is being asked to bail out the culprits and to do so at the expense of those who elected us to guard their interest the people of our country.  The normal legislative process that should accompany review of a monumental proposal to bail out wall street has been shelved, yes shelved.  Only a few insiders are doing the dealing.  Sounds like insider trading to me.  These criminals have so much political power they can shut down the normal legislative process of the highest law making body in this land.  All the committees that should be scanning every word of what is being negotiated are benched, and that means the American people are benched too.  We are constitutionally sworn to protect and defend this republic against ALL enemies foreign and domestic, and my friends there are enemies.  We are told we will have a trillion dollar bill to review soon and have less than 24 hours with no regular hearings to try to vote on this tar baby.  The people pushing this deal are the very same ones who are responsible for the implosion on wall street.  They were fraudulent then and they are fraudelent now.  We should say no to this deal.  I ask my colleagues to join us at 2:00 at HC8 of the capital to meet with some real experts who have done financial resolutions without putting financial burdeon on the taxpayer.  Please join us HC8 at 2 p.m.

94 democrats voted against this bill today.  That is more than half the democrats, yet they get in front of the camera and give their little speeches about how all democrats are for this and its all the republicans fault this didn’t pass.  Hello folks, do the math.

Pelosi has shown how truly inexperienced, divisive and uncaring she.  She gets up there and her mouth just flaps with nothing of substance being said.  She is incompetent and should be fired.  All that came out of her flapping gums today was more bashing of the republicans and accusing them of what democrats have been doing for over 2 years now.  Why in the world would you give a speech putting all the blame on people and bash the other political side before a vote is even held.  Chalk it up to one more of the numerous reasons she is incompetent and needs to step down.  And if she doesn’t step down she should be physically removed.  Even the Deputy Minority Whip held up a copy of Pelosi’s floor speech at a press conference and said she had “failed to listen and lead” on the issue.

Then I heard Barney Frank talk.  He should be renamed Barney Baloney.  He stands and mocks the people who voted against the bill making fun of them.  As someone said he may be a funny and clever guy, but there is nothing funny about this situation.

Did anyone even notice today that every time Pelosi and Franks spoke the market dived.  When they stopped talking the market started going up.  They’d get in front of the camera again and the market started tanking again big time.  This happened about 3 or 4 times (I was watching it on a split screen).  At that point you would have thought the President would have called over and told them to shut up because they were tanking the market.

Kucinich (democrat) said the ones who caused this are the one who are giving us a line (Pelosi, Franks, Kerry, Dodd).

Truth is this $700B is not enough.  This is a small part of what is needed.  Many people are saying it's more like close to a trillion.  After this they’ll say well we need this much more, then that much more, and before we know it we’re going to be paying more than just $10,500.

There are economists and educated people who are asking for a decent bill.  But do they consult them.  They are the ones with the knowledge and ideas to get us out of the mess.  No who do they get – Pelosi, Franks, Dodd, etc – the people who did this in the first place).

All I can see is both candidates are more interested in getting themselves elected than what is happening with the economy so don’t even try to say one is worse than the other.  I cannot say what Obama is saying because I’m not hearing anything from him except that he keeps saying it needs to be fixed, but I’m not hearing his specific viewpoints on the bill itself (and I'm not hearing McCain's specifics either).  Specifics would be good if I'm suppose to vote for one or the other in November.

You should have learned that in history class

Interesting link - learned something new

I found a site that has an interesting interview with a historian.  He wrote....

"Especially in politics it is of the utmost importance to try to look behind the facade: who makes up the team of the presidential candidate? The future president of the United States of America is for a large part dependent on and being fed by his team of advisors and future cabinet members."

Below is a link with his interview.  Very interesting.  There are two parts to the video.

It appears that Bin Laden

has threatened Americans again in a new audio tape, saying President Barack Obama inflamed hatred toward the U.S. by ordering Pakistan to crack down on militants in Swat Valley and block Islamic law in the area.

You just can't win with terrorists.  No matter how nice we try to be to Muslims.....the extremists are still going to hate us and want to kill us.

You haven't learned a thing, Lurker. sm
Historically, Vietnam taught SOME of us, including the historians, and General Giap, who published his memoirs, that the antiwar movement in the United States EMBOLDENED and STRENGTHENED THE RESOLVE of the North Vietnamese when they were ready to surrender after Tet.  To some, that might be a history lesson worth remembering and not repeating, but I know you CHOOSE not to believe this. So be it.
Just learned how Hillary is going to get Barack to lose

Hillary's supporters like General Wesley Clark and others are starting to come out now in full force making statements that are not favorable towards Barack.  Even though Clark's statements are true (just cos you are shot down in an aircraft doesn't mean your qualified to be President) but it doesn't help in getting your party elected to the white house.  I knew she was going to do it so that McCain would win and because he's so weak he'll only be in four years then she and Bill will run again in 4 years.  I just didn't know how she was planning it until I watched the news this a.m.  She is such a skum bag in my opinion.  The worry of having to listen to her again in 4 years is enough to put me through the roof again.

Learned how to deal with the frustrations of politics

I am so much calmer now these days since I learned how to deal with the frustrating day to day news of politics.  My solution - I now watch HBO, The Food Channel, BBC, Travel Channel, and any other channel that is not news related.  If I want news I will look at Drudge.  TV is just too overwhelming for me and all these so called "experts" commenting on the politics.

So...you shouldn't be seeing any more stupid irate comments from me anymore.  I'll now just be a couch potato learning how to cook different foods and planning my vacation to all these far away places on the travel channel.  Oh yes, I forgot...while I speak in a british accent because I watch so much BBC.  HA HA

Not allowed. Pubs haven't learned

LOL! It appears that you have something in your *right* eye blocking your vision.

You crash this board and admonish my behavior, yet you can't see the same behavior on the other board.  You're over there kissing up to them.

Yeah.  You call them as you see them.

With your right eye closed.

You're just another lying phony crashing this board.

Truly doesn't matter where she appears or what she does...sm
the left will always find a reason to find fault of some sort.

It's actually rather admirable for her to take this particular bull by the horns, and appear on SNL's "weekly Palin smear show."

Unfortunately, I hear they're also going to follow the Obama campaign and the media's lead and smear Joe the Plumber for asking a question, that gave the Obama answer, that has Obama's campaign scrambling to try to save themselves from ruin.

Obama's answer to Joe is the real big problem here....and was an election breaker and maker, and Obama knows it, and so do the American people.

Mark my words....Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber, have saved McCain in this election.

And Obama knows it and is running scared again.....
biden appears to be a family man
when i heard about the tragic accident that his family was involved in and then when i saw the media in the hospital room.... just makes me wonder how family oriented he is to invite the media into that....
The table appears way, way down on the page.
Please pay special attention to the years 1932 to 1981. Thanks.
Appears I've been too subtle once again..

Disclaimer:  I am neither a Demican nor a Republicrat.  I have always voted for the guy/gal based on their stated policies, compared to actual prior performance which agrees with my mostly conservative views.  (I have sort of a peripheral friend who, about four months before the election, called herself an Obamacan.  Wonder how she's feeling right now.)

Having said that, I will add that I do know they all use the TelePrompTer and give speeches mostly written by professional speech writers. I get it.  I do not believe that any of them just make spontaneous utterances inspired by God.  Even Lincoln wrote it down on the back of an envelope on the way to Gettysburg.  But I bet he did not just READ it straight off the envelope, but extemporized a bit without getting himself in trouble.

I always liked Bush's more folksy way of speaking.  When he would veer from his canned text you could usually tell, and it appeared genuine to me.  Example: He addressed criticism of what some were calling his 'cowboy swagger' saying 'In Texas, we call that.......walking.'  Sorry, it just broke me up.  I don't even mind a few malapropisms, as it only adds to the impression that this is a genuine guy.

I compare that to Obama, Mr. Smooth.  I get no sense of warmth from the man and when he gets away from his canned text, I can just see his handlers cringing.  Example:  Why didn't he get a dog for the Whitehouse as he had been talking about during the campaign?  'Guess that was just another campaign promise. Heh, heh, heh.'

I believe that it is in those unguarded moments, off script, you get a glimps of what's inside of a person.  What do they consider funny?  What do they poke fun at?  Themselves?  Or Special Olympics?

So my puppet remark was directed toward Obama, sorry if I was too indirect.

I remember the debate. And of course this is not word for word, I NEVER said...sm
*because I'm not.* This is a LIE that I got tired of arguing with them about then. Unless you are confusing me with an old poster that went under the moniker Demo.

This appears to be the norm on the whole Gulf Coast

I was in Gulfport, MS before, during and after Katrina.  About a year after, all the rent on the coast went sky high (was paying $425 for an efficiency, raised it to $800).  I was working 7 days a week at two hospitals (many MTs had already left the coast), and I had to leave too, leaving them even more short handed.  There have been many articles regarding the majority of the rebuild on the coast is new casinos and high-end housing.  I have no idea how they expect anyone in the service industries to live there without affordable housing.  You cannot have tourist industry without people that support it - casino workers, fast food folk, maids, low-end hospital jobs.

What drove me nuts is the way they portrayed the people in the media - as if we were all illiterate crackheads.  I worked with many fine people at those hospitals, and it would take pages to descibe their suffering.  It disgusts me how there will always be money to accomodate the disposable income players, while the backbone of the community, hard working, serious, responsible people, were left with a trashed out house with no roof, a mortgage to pay and an insurance company that said they didn't have to give them a dime to rebuild.

Another drive-by potshot over the bow...also infantile...but definitely, it appears...
