Could you clarify why telling someone they live in ignorance is markedly different from calling that person ignorant.  They appear to be the same to me.  Either way, it is a bash.  There is no reason not to have good manners, whether on a political forum or at a tea party.  Good folks have good manners, generally.

I notice that when bashing and poor manners occur, the person who is bashed is then attacked as being thin-skinned and not appropriate for political debates.  It seems to be suggested that there is something ultimately wrong with a person who does not like being treated poorly.  It's a way of deflecting the core problem of lack of manners. 

Just food for thought.  I'm sure there is room for improvement with all of us......
