My dad

My dad helped liberate Germany and when he came back he developed a drinking problem and my childhood and teen years were hell..He would cry about WWII when he would drink.  He was emotionally and physically destroyed by WAR. He had a bullet in his chest, which they never removed as it was too close to his heart, and part of his thigh was blown away..I would talk to my dad when he was sober and he would CRY and tell me about his experiences in WWII..he told me about the German soldier who was blown up to pieces and begged my father and his troops to kill him and they did. My father was captured by the Japanese when he was shot in the chest and he told them if you dont take me to an American hospital I have a grenade in my shirt pocket.  My father earned metals and a Purple Heart..who cares??  I would have rather had the whole person.  I never had that..My father till the day he died would get choked up about WWII..and this was a **noble** war? (is any war noble??)..Thankfully the last 20 years of my fathers life, he was no longer an alcoholic and lived a good productive life but till the day he died, he was haunted by FREAKING WAR.
