RE: One Man’s Lie…” post. Trying to answer each of these cut and paste sound bytes taken out of their contexts inspires little interest, but when skimming over the dates, an interesting pattern emerges that may be helpful. Apparent are a whole slew of 1998 comments, an absence of 1998-2003 dialogue, at which point it emerges again. So what happened between 1998 and 2003? Not a whole lot in the way of new intelligence. Why?

The intelligence during UNSCOM years was reliable, actionable, credible and transparent. That may explain why there are no accusations of misuse of intelligence by Clinton.
In this instance, the ever maligned, defunct, ineffective UN (according to the Bushites) played a vital role for President Clinton…that would be the guy who sent troops into Yugoslavia as part of a joint, multinational force and the same guy who knew the value of, sought out and secured international consensus, at least among western allied countries, as well as stateside support, in the days leading up to the Liberation of Iraq and Operation Desert Fox (ODF). The “One Man’s Lie…” post below illustrates this point quite well.

What the UN was not able to account for and the lingering doubts and suspicions compelled Clinton to proceed with the ODF mission, a 4-day surgically precise bombardment of the remaining known/suspected targets, with its objective of degradation of Saddam’s facilities and diminishing his threat being largely realized. In the meantime, UNSCOM personnel were withdrawn and all that reliable, actionable, credible and transparent intelligence dried up.

So the OP raised a good question. Where did Bush intelligence come from? The previous question is worth repeating. What happened between 1998 and 2003? Bush and his NeoCon henchmen, with all their dreams of American Oil Empire in tow, happened. Part of that vision was precisely described by the OP. Bush decided to finally “change the Middle East.” Problem is, that was decided before 9/11 happened. Opportunity happened. Arrogance happened. They appointed themselves the world police and put themselves in charge of the war on terror. Bush’s brains, Mr. Cheney and Mr. Rove, were at least able to persuade him that invading a sovereign country probably would need more justification than 5-year-old intelligence. All the key elements were in place. A nation brought to its knees by terror, fear, loss beyond measure, grief, shock and anger. Lots of anger. Vulnerable. Propaganda happened. Lies happened. Lots of lies. War happened. Revenge happened. Death and destruction happened. WMDs, chemical and biological weapons didn’t happen.

The yellowcake reactor grade uranium sat around in rusty barrels since 1991. Why didn’t he enrich it in the 12-year interim between 1991 and 2003? Because we blew up his reactor and his facilities. He may have had aspirations to rebuild, but he didn’t, according to the Duelfer report. Don’t know about Plame. Do know that the yellowcake uranium was documented, controlled and overseen by UNSCOM as explained in the other post. Will repeat again. US kept this uranium yellowcake transfer secret, even though they have known about it since 1991, because they were too busy killing Iraqis and looking for imaginary terror cells to be bothered with cleaning up the nuclear storage facility that they bombed out of existence in 1991, thus leaving it wide open to theft by God-knows-who. The USAF colonel’s study is an interesting read, credible and void of hidden agenda. He is not selling anything, just putting a report together.

The “illegal” Supreme Court “opinion” has been upheld and enforced as law for 35 years. If the Supreme Court forced the will of their activist judges on “us,” then why have all the challenges to date failed to reverse the decision? Those guys are dead and gone. Seems like the decision has taken on a life of its own. Conservative judges have had the bench for the past 8 years, but so far, have taken no initiative to overturn this illegal action. Wonder why. Not too worried about that one. Don’t know what polls you refer to, but do know that if anybody is imposing their will on “us,” that would be the delusional zealots who believe they should be in charge of what a woman does with her own body. Even third world countries know better. If the Christian right tries to impose its morality on this secular nation where church and state remain separate by constitutional mandate, it will take a theocratic revolution and will happen over lots of dead bodies. Good luck with that. The abortion issue is separate from the examples given. Repeat. In this country, choice belongs to the woman, not the government.
