I almost died when I saw that the ACLU was preparing a lawsuit on behalf of (among others) Christopher Hitchens. This is the guy who went from left-leaning, writing for The Nation to so far right he is not recognizable. I rarely listen to him anymore because, like so many of the radical right, he is so abrasive I find him difficult to stomach. This is a guy who hates the ACLU until he needs it because the ACLU will defend the constitutional rights of anyone and everyone, not just the people, groups, corporations that some find acceptable. As American citizens we all have the right to due process and legal representation no matter how heinous the crimes we have committed. The right goes nuts when the ACLU defends those they disdain but interestingly, Hitchens and Rush both have turned to the ACLU for help when personally in need. Where are their right-wing lawyers?? Why do they need the ACLU to help them?? Why indeed.
Also, on another note, I am again disgusted that this administration who has not one person amongst them who has ever seen combat in any war/conflict is swiftboating AGAIN, this time John Murtha, a REPUBLICAN. First we had Max Cleland who was decried as unpatriotic. Then Al Gore's service did not count because he was only a journalist (journalists are in harm's way and he was serving in Viet Nam). Then there was John Kerry who actually fought, led and had medals to prove it ...what to do??? Why, question the authenticity of the medals of course. And now, John Murtha, a lifelong military guy, Republican, with medals galore and now his medals are being questioned. I don't know why the military people who frequent these boards are not outraged by this. I understand that the first 3 mentioned were Democrats but Murtha...you guys are okay with this??? You could fill a library with what this administration does not know about military strategies, plans, actual experience and yet they are so arrogant as to swiftboat one of their own who has been behind them 100% up to this point. This is beyond appalling.

Do you have a silver spoon on your mouth? I guess you've been brainwashed to believe that McCain at 70+ is really going to make a difference? The American dream - yeah right! The rich get richer while the poor get poorer! Are you actually an MT? Get real! If you believe everything the media says, you are a sad sort. Yes, this economy needs help and that doesn't mean more taxes on our healthcare. Are you awake?

The poster above said she doesn't believe it and videos can be "fixed" (or whatever word she used). This is not an altered video. I do photoshop and videos and stuff and I can tell. It's the real thing. Besides if someone was going to do any kind of "fixing" of the video it would have been to get a better singer.
Yet you'd be singing her praises if she were for Obama.

When I saw the video of the kids singing....
and of those boys in fatigues doing their routine....it does remind you of the newsreel footage of the "Hitler youth." Not comparing Obama to Hitler, but the PHENOMENON of Obama. Hitler so mesmerized people he convinced them that Jews were the cause of all their problems...and the people bought it. Using the same old socialist techniques...you find the weakness, the thing that enrages people...and you put a face on it. With Obama it is class warfare. With Hitler it was warfare against Jews. The similarities ARE eery. And it is NOT comparing Obama to Hitler per se...just the phenomenon of Obama followers and Hitler's National Socialist Party. 'Nuff to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
dogs and cats
Well, sometimes I feel animals are given more rights than humans. But that said, we are talking about dogs and cats that are alive and viable. An 8-week fetus is hardly viable on its own, and again, I don't believe it is alive and I question the pain issue anyway. When looking at that research, it is more than a bit biased.
Can we call off the dogs
I just have to say that I did NOT want McCain as our next president. I am not pro-McCain....in case you missed it....I'm not conservative nor am I pro-McCain. I consider myself down the middle. There are some issues I'm very liberal with and some that I am conservative with.
With that said.....this board has become very one-sided and seemingly mean-spirited. My friend says this is because people are so fed up and so ready for a change........I am too, but my goodness, let's not be blinded with Obama's charisma. He will be hugely successful with some things and he will fail miserably with some things. That's the nature of politics. He's human. He will be affected by Washington politics. He's already backed down on one thing that he stated during the campaign (no lobbyists as advisors--now they can be but with restrictions).
I would rather look at things realistically and without rose-colored glasses. Let's call the dogs off Palin & MCain, take the high road, and look to Obama to be the great leader he promises to be.

We lived on soup given to us by a neighbor for 6 months. In return, hubby worked around the place for him (they were in their 70s). We would get a gallon of soup every other day. I must say, I did lose weight then.  Kids came first, then hubby, then me for the soup. I never want to be in that position again, but it looks like it may come to that. Thank heavens, I've been stocking up a bit. I'm no where near where I'd like to be food-wise, but better off than I was in the 80s when there was NOTHING.

Like everyone else, he knows what the consequences are for speaking out. I'm sure the MSM have a smear campaign planned if he does.

PS. FYI, the Sufi Dervish practitioners are famous for being a source of wisdom, medicine, poetry, enlightenment, and witticisms, so thanks for the compliment.
