Tests can be thrown, college admissions bought and sold

In Reply to: Bush's IQ is between 125 to 129 - that sounds like triple digits to me - see message

Since when can IQ be extrapolated from SAT test scores? I'd appreciate a source citation so I can read up on that, unless you are going on those lame IQ test websites that have assigned W, O and Michelle's IQ all at 125. Fact is, brilliant people have been known to score low on SAT for a variety of reasons so that argument is not terribly convincing.

I'm going strictly on such measures as butchery of his native tongue, i.e., inability to form more than monosyllabic 6-word sentences without a teleprompt or cue cards, how challenged he is to complete a whole thought and his dependence on behind-the-scenes heavyweights to engineer his campaigns and run his presidency, just to name a few.

W was denied admission to St. John's Academy (HS) and UT School of Law. This does not happen for no reason. His distinguishing accomplishment at his Dad's alma mater was joining the secret society of the Skull and Bones brotherhood. I'm a firm believer that strings were pulled on his behalf (as they were on so many other occasions) to get him into the ivy league track, unlike Obama, who did it the old-fashioned way (scholastic achievement) when he transferred to Columbia and was ultimately admitted to Harvard, where he graduated magna cum laude.

Bush does have an impressive record of failing at almost everything he every tried to do before (and after) his political career: In abstentia service in the National Guard, bombed election bid for the Texas House of Representatives in 1978, and an oil company that went bust which he left under a cloud of suspicion of insider trading. He did manage to capitalize on his 5-year dalliance with the Texas Rangers baseball team (could't really call what he did there REAL work) just long enough to get good name recognition for his run for gov and make a profitable sale of his shares in the team.

This less than stellar performance was totally eclipsed by the multitude of screw-ups while in office, way too much to get into in the confines of this forum. Bottom line for me is that his behavior and performance is very uninspiring, less than mediocre and not at all suggestive of much in the way of creativity or intellect....in other words, the polar opposite of the O. Hence the statement, IQ is good for the country. The wisdom angle was somebody else's attempt to side-step the issue of W's stupidity.

Excuses and admissions

You stated you never baited or threw barbs.  You didn't qualify the statement.  And because someone does it first, does that make it right for you to respond in kind?  When my kids were little I used to say that because somebody else does something doesn't make it right.....

The difference between you and I is that I admit I get cranky on this board, I admit I cut and paste from liberal publications at times, I admit I have baited other posters and have problem been demeaning.  Not proud of it, but it happens and I acknowledge it.  It's out there and can't be taken back, so I might as well fess up.  I'm a human and I get irritable.

And yes, we've been through all this - I used to post as Teddy and before that I posted as Observer before you arrived, probably about 2 years ago or more.  There's no particular mystery to be solved in any of this.

The embryos that are thrown away, just
exactly what are they going to grow into being? I am not rooting for abortion here, just asking about these in vitro fertilization embryos that are tossed aside, I want to know, what are they going to grow into? And as far as me not reading enough, I have read plenty enough, enough to know they don't know if this research will come up with a cure or not, I guess that is why they call it research.
Volunteers being thrown out
When I first read your post, I thought the votes were being thrown out!
You only would have been thrown in jail

Sold!!!! Grizzly would be a better choice though.

My job was sold up the river years ago.
when to pick up my marbles and go home. I'm taking my 30 years of MT experience and medical terminology and going back into the real world to schedule surgery at the hospital where Dr. DeBakey ruled the roost in the Texas Medical Center years ago. They can't outsource me from there. I start there next week and will be making more there than at home with the best benefits found anywhere.

I may be getting old, but I learned how to read the writing on the wall decades ago and am still able to go with the flow. How many mortgages got sold to other banks?
Look at the big picture. They were selling houses to anyone who would sign on the dotted line - they did not give a fig whether or not you could afford it. They then boxed up a pile of these mortgages and sold them to other banks or mortgage companies with the premise - here's a box of rocks, there's gotta be a diamond in there somewhere. They WANTED these mortgages to fail. The housing market was booming - take the down payment, pass the mortgage around - foreclose on hapless patsies - and resell the house. They were MAKING MONEY OFF OF DOING THIS!!! But, they got greedy, and that box held all rocks and no diamonds. They screwed themselves as well as the American people who fell for this sham. But who is going to suffer the most?
Yes, Obama is sickening. He has sold us out

Thrown Away Flags Story False

Days before the anniversary of September 11, on the same morning that John McCain and Barack Obama released a joint statement pledging to avoid politics in light of the anniversary of the terrorist attacks, McCain's campaign accused Democrats of throwing away 12,000 American flags.

"The campaign says the flags were recovered from Invesco Field after the Democrats concluded their convention there," Fox News reported, "and they are going to be used as part of the warm-up ceremonies before McCain takes the stage" for a rally in Colorado Springs, Col.

But according to a senior official involved in organizing the Democratic convention, the McCain camp is simply lying about the flags.

"All of the flags at Invesco were picked up and put in bags and into storage, along with the unused flags and campaign signs. The flags were going to be donated, and the signs were going to be sent out to be used elsewhere," the official said, speaking anonymously since he was not authorized to talk to the press.

Fox News' Carl Cameron and Bonney Kapp reported that they had "been told" that "a vendor at Invesco Field found the flags, which were going to be thrown out, and turned them over to the McCain campaign."

The Democratic convention official says that's not true.

"It's pretty reprehensible on their part," he said. "Someone made an assumption, took the flags, and essentially lied about what was going to happen to them. I mean, c'mon, we were never ever going to throw out flags."

Emails to three McCain spokespersons inquiring where the flags were found and how the McCain campaign obtained them were not returned.

UPDATE: DNC spokeswoman Karen Finney issues a statement: "American flags were proudly waved by the 75,000 people who joined Barack Obama at the Democratic Convention. John McCain should applaud that, but instead his supporters wrongfully took leftover bundles of our flags from the stadium to play a cheap political stunt calling into question our patriotism. On the same day he agrees to join Barack Obama at Ground Zero on September 11, John McCain attacks the patriotism of Obama supporters who so proudly waved the American flag at our historic event in Denver just days ago."

So you think it is more helpful to watch shoe being thrown
at our current leader than to hear about the new administration's cabinet members?
Mercy me honey, the facts were thrown

Senator Sold Stock Before Price Dropped

Martha Stewart comes to mind.

Shares Fell Two Weeks Later

By Jonathan M. Katz
Associated Press
Wednesday, September 21, 2005; Page A03

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, a potential presidential candidate in 2008, sold all his stock in his family's hospital corporation about two weeks before it issued a disappointing earnings report and the price fell nearly 15 percent.

Frist held an undisclosed amount of stock in Hospital Corporation of America, based in Nashville, the nation's largest for-profit hospital chain. On June 13, he instructed the trustee managing the assets to sell his HCA shares and those of his wife and children, said Amy Call, a spokeswoman for Frist.

Frist's shares were sold by July 1 and those of his wife and children by July 8, Call said. The trustee decided when to sell the shares, and the Tennessee Republican had no control over the exact time they were sold, she said.

HCA shares peaked at midyear, climbing to $58.22 a share on June 22. After slipping slightly for two weeks, the price fell to $49.90 on July 13 after the company announced its quarterly earnings would not meet analysts' expectations. On Tuesday, the shares closed at $48.76.

The value of Frist's stock at the time of the sale was not disclosed. Earlier this year, he reported holding blind trusts valued at $7 million to $35 million.

Blind trusts are used to avoid conflicts of interest. Assets are turned over to a trustee who manages them without divulging any purchases or sales and reports only the total value and income earned to the owner.

To keep the trust blind, Frist was not allowed to know how much HCA stock he owned, Call said, but he was allowed to ask for all of it to be sold.

Frist, a surgeon first elected to the Senate in 1994, had been criticized for maintaining the holdings while dealing with legislation affecting the medical industry and managed care. Call said the Senate Select Committee on Ethics has found nothing wrong with Frist's holdings in the company in a blind trust.

To avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest, Senator Frist went beyond what ethics requires and sold the stock, Call said. Asked why he had not done so before, she said, I don't know that he's been worried about it in the past.

An HCA spokesman said the company had no part in Frist's decision.

Frist's father, Thomas, founded the company, and his brother, Thomas Jr., is a director and leading stockholder. The family is worth $1.1 billion, according to Forbes magazine.

HCA -- formerly known as Columbia HCA Healthcare Corp. -- has been a top contributor to the senator's campaigns, donating $83,450 since 1989, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

The sale of the shares was first reported by Congressional Quarterly.

Berg Lawsuit Thrown Out - Case Closed
Judge rejects Montco lawyer's bid to have Obama removed from ballot

By MICHAEL HINKELMAN
Philadelphia Daily News

hinkelm@phillynews.com 215-854-2656
A federal judge in Philadelphia last night threw out a complaint by a Montgomery County lawyer who claimed that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was not qualified to be president and that his name should be removed from the Nov. 4 ballot.

Philip J. Berg alleged in a complaint filed in federal district court on Aug. 21 against Obama, the Democratic National Committee and the Federal Election Commission, that Obama was born in Mombasa, Kenya.

Berg claimed that the Democratic presidential standardbearer is not even an American citizen but a citizen of Indonesia and therefore ineligible to be president.

He alleged that if Obama was permitted to run for president and subsequently found to be ineligible, he and other voters would be disenfranchised.

U.S. District Judge R. Barclay Surrick had denied Berg's request for a temporary restraining order on Aug. 22 but had not ruled on the merits of the suit until yesterday.

Obama and the Democratic National Committee had asked Surrick to dismiss Berg's complaint in a court filing on Sept. 24.

They said that Berg's claims were "ridiculous" and "patently false," that Berg had "no standing" to challenge the qualifications of a candidate for president because he had not shown the requisite harm to himself.

Surrick agreed.

In a 34-page memorandum and opinion, the judge said Berg's allegations of harm were "too vague and too attenuated" to confer standing on him or any other voters.

Surrick ruled that Berg's attempts to use certain laws to gain standing to pursue his claim that Obama was not a natural-born citizen were "frivolous and not worthy of discussion."

The judge also said the harm Berg alleged did "not constitute an injury in fact" and Berg's arguments to the contrary "ventured into the unreasonable."

For example, Berg had claimed that Obama's nomination deprived citizens of voting for Sen. Hillary Clinton in November. (Berg backed Clinton in the primaries.)

Berg could not be reached for comment last night.

Obama was born in Honolulu on Aug. 4, 1961, and the campaign posted a document issued by Hawaii on its Web site, fight thesmears.com, confirming his birth there.

Berg said in court papers that the image was a forgery.

The nonpartisan Web site FactCheck.org examined the original document and said it was legitimate.

Further, a birth announcement in the Aug. 13, 1961, Honolulu Advertiser listed Obama's birth there on Aug. 4.

You said you bought it three years ago.
How does that make it a rental? And don't mobile homes depreciate in value instead of appreciate? Still makes no sense.
That's how he bought his house......
With the money paid on his book deals.....yes, frugal by choice and probably habit. If I got that much of an advance on my books, the first thing I'd do is buy a gorgeous house in a nice neighborhood to raise my kids.
Screw them if they bought more than
they could afford or were too stupid to read the paperwork. My mortgage is paid every month (early with extra $$ towards principal). We were approved for a $500,000 loan and bought a house that was $180,000 that suits us just fine. Too bad some people were not better prepared (or shouldn't have been able) to be homeowners; it's not the gov'ts fault.
Yep! America will probably be bought
by another country. I stated that before on this post months ago.

Should look at the link above about "DID YOU KNOW? Scary."

Well, I guess a majority of the country WANTED CHANGE and we are going to get it, even though the ones who voted did not not know what the change would be.
Actually, I bought it during the election last time....
from a local democrat group who was using them regarding Bush. But Bush's name is not on the sign. It is generic, a money saver for them I guess, they can use them any time a Repub president is in the white house. lol.
This election was bought and paid for by

My daught bought a home right off of

Just send me a check.

Guess you haven't read the real news. There was no surplus.
Maybe that is why China bought Hummer?
x
You bought the bull, horns and all, didn't ya?
First of all, 96,000,000 Americans don't even PAY taxes. That's 44%. Those people are going to be given WELFARE checks, not tax cuts. (Because, duh, you can't pay less than zero!)

So tell me, how can Saint Obama cut taxes for 95% of America when only 56% of America pays taxes in the first place?

Answer:
He's L-Y-I-N-G to you, dipstick.
I never meant where he bought his house specifically, but...
if I could afford a really nice ranch with an amazing barn, you can bet your behind I would be there, as I am sure you all would buy your dream house, as well, regardless of what you are saying here. I don't really buy into the whole "I would continue to live just where I do" frap. At least I am honest. And, no, money can't buy happiness, but I don't bet that it hurts to have a nice house either. What is it that you find so offensive about living in a nice neighborhood?
Granted, there are people who bought more house.....sm
than they could afford, but there are also people who are now unemployed through no fault of their own who would benefit from this measure. Like my dear old friend often says...."There but by the grace of God go I."
Sorry, these aren't bought and paid for crowds!!
xx
Bought a Dell computer straight from sm
the company a year ago and no way would I buy another one that way! I might go to Best Buy where they have the Geek Squad right on the premises. If you call Geek Squad on the phone, you get somebody in India or better yet I got someone over in Japan!!!!!!!!!!! Couldn't understand a thing he was saying. The tech support is rude and nasty. Only if I could go through Best Buy and get my service at GS right in the store, would I buy another Dell Other than that, forget it!!!!!!!!!!
China! Guess who bought Hummer?
I bet China and every other country is really laughing at us.
Question for you all about the dishes bought at the White House

How do you feel about it? I feel its bad timing no matter who the buyer was since the economy is in such a state right now even though the money was donated to the Historical Society to buy them. I know they can do whatever they want with it but it just seems so wrong to me when so many Americans are hurting.

I was reading some on another site and one person made the comment that it would look bad on the US if they had to eat on mismatched plates at their big dinners...and yes she was serious. That comment just doesn't make sense to me. Doesn't it look worse on the US when their are Americans loosing their homes and living on the streets or in cars and not even knowing where their next meal will come from let alone whether or not they even have a plate to eat it on.

There are just some things that just make me want to go huh?

Look, I don't care if Obama's inaugaration party is costing 21 million, but in the light of where our economy is right now, do you think it's a good idea? I mean, can't you have a good party for around 10 million? This is NOT a political question. I'm not attacking Obama, it's more of an economic question.

They have bought into Bush's propaganda hook-line-and sinker.
"If you are not with us, then you are with the terrorist." - pres Bush

That's why anytime they hear an adverse opinion to Bush's war in Iraq, they start their spill about liberals being with the terrorists.
When I was in college
I was very liberal - led rallies for Dukakis, made phone calls, passed out bumper stickers, etc. My dad, who is very conservative, called me out on my liberal views one day with this story.

"A girl with very liberal political views came home from college to visit her parents, who were very conservative. She started to discuss politics with her father, even though they always disagreed. Her dad, deciding to change the subject, asked her how she was doing in school. She replied that she was doing great and carrying a 4.0 gpa, but she didn't have much time to socialize because she was studying so much. The dad then asked how her friend from high school was doing. The daughter replied that her friend wasn't doing very well - she went to parties all the time, never studied and hardly ever went to class. She was carrying a 3.5 gpa. The dad said that maybe she could go to the Dean of the college and ask him to give her friend 0.5 points of her gpa - that way, they would both have a 3.5 gpa and they would be equal. The daughter was very upset by this suggestion, as she had worked very hard and given up a lot in order to have such good grades and that it would not be fair for her to give her friend her points when she had done nothing to earn them. Her father just smiled and said "Welcome to the Republican party."

Electoral College........
If you really knew what you were talking about, you wouldn't even have kicked your point down by saying anything about the electoral collge. The electoral college really is illegal and unconstitutional and there is no place for it in this country. It is mainly far left liberals who only look at for themselvs and could care less about the country as a whole. What a joke!!
the electoral college
I don't really know what people would want but I do know that the final decision on presidency rests with the electoral college, which vote will not take place until december 15th. The whole issue is designed to influence the votes of the electors so all remains to be seen after the SC today and the electoral vote on 12/15.
Getting rid of the electorial college....sm
or at least rewriting it is one of Obama's plans for his presidency. Perhaps his brilliant idea to beef up the registered voters in electorial-rich states will be his research market study to sell the idea to Congress and to the American people.

I don't think the electorial college is the ideal method of determining presidency as it stands now, but I am not sure what the answer needs to be. Popular vote would probably net the same results, a few more densly populous states determining the outcome of the presidency, but it does seem more representative of what the people want than some calculated system such as the electorial college.
