that the New Deal probably prolonged the depression by at least 7 years. Are you sure that socialism is what the market needs--it is my thought that this problem was well on its way before Bush came into office--caused by the interference in the market that was already in place.

It doesn't matter who wins...when it is time it is going to happen, regardless of what we do. If he is meant to be in office he will be. God's plan will come to pass no matter what.
What was it I just read recently...
... somewhere, about how yet another large chunk of the porkulus was going to install a guardrail around a particular reservoir.

Only one problem... the reservoir is dry, and no one goes there.

Maybe it was this one. If so, it's been canceled. Thank heaven for the occasional wiser head....

The deficit is coming down. It is down by 18 billion just recently

how do you know no one has anyone serving over there.  You have no way of knowing that.

Have you priced medical insurance recently?
The $1000 may be a little exaggerated, but 6 years ago when I wanted to get a policy that covered merely 1 daughter and I, the quoted rate was $700/month. Even through work, a family policy runs around $600/month just for the medical, probably another $50 combined for the dental/vision. Between copays and prescriptions (even generic), you can add a little bit more to that. So while I agree that $1000 might be high, $700 would likely be a low conservative estimate. And, as noted, I'm basing my numbers on 5 years ago; since it's regularly on the news that the cost of policies has gone up, the $1000 may not be too far off.
Right. A friend of mine belonged to a union recently.

It's yet another non-starter.
His campaign has released several statements
stating that she was vetted. Just go to cnn.com and you can read them all there.

Here is a partial article (also explains that this was a rumor...that she had not been vetted:

Nicolle Wallace, a senior McCain adviser, told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Tuesday that Palin disclosed her daughter's pregnancy during the vetting process, and that the McCain campaign had been forced to reveal the pregnancy publicly Monday because of "lewd and outrageously false rumors" spread by "Democratic-leaning blogs and a few in the mainstream" media. She did not identify them.

Since McCain publicly disclosed his running mate on Friday, the notion of a shoddy, rushed review has been stoked repeatedly.

First, a campaign-issued timeline said McCain initially met Palin in February, then held one phone conversation with her last week before inviting her to Arizona, where he met with her a second time and offered her the job Thursday.

Then came the campaign's disclosure that Palin's unmarried 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, was pregnant. The father is Levi Johnston, who has been a hockey player at Bristol's high school, The New York Post and The New York Daily News reported in their Tuesday editions.

In addition, the campaign also disclosed that Palin's husband, Todd, then age 22, was arrested in 1986 in Alaska for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Shortly after Palin was named to the ticket, McCain's campaign dispatched a team of a dozen communications operatives and lawyers to Alaska. That fueled speculation that a comprehensive examination of Palin's record and past was incomplete and being done only after she was placed on the ticket.

Steve Schmidt, a senior adviser, said no matter who the nominee was, the campaign was ready to send a "jump team" to the No. 2's home state to work with the nominee's staff, work with the local media and help handle requests from the national media for information, and answer questions about documents that were part of the review.

At several points throughout the process, McCain's team warned Palin that the scrutiny into her private life would be intense and that there was nothing she could do to prepare for it.

Culvahouse disclosed details of his examination in a half-hour interview with the AP.

First, a team of some 25 people working under Culvahouse culled information from public sources for Palin and other prospective candidates without their knowledge. For all, news reports, speeches, financial and tax return disclosures, litigation, investigations, ethical charges, marriages and divorces were reviewed.

For Palin specifically, the team studied online archives of the state's largest newspapers, including the Anchorage Daily News, but didn't request paper archives for Palin's hometown newspaper. "I made the decision that we could not get it done and maintain secrecy," Culvahouse said.

Reports, 40-some pages and single-spaced, on each candidate then were reviewed by McCain, Schmidt, campaign manager Rick Davis and top advisers Mark Salter and Charlie Black.

Among the details McCain's campaign found: Palin had once received a citation for fishing without a license.

Palin, like others on the short list, then was sent a personal data questionnaire with 70 "very intrusive" questions, Culvahouse said. She also was asked to submit a number of years of federal and state tax returns, as well as any controversial articles she had written or interviews she had done. The campaign also checked her credit.

Then, Culvahouse conducted a nearly three-hour-long interview.

He said the first thing she volunteered was that her daughter was pregnant, and she also quickly disclosed her husband's DUI arrest.

Early on, the public search unearthed details of the investigation by the Republican-controlled legislature into the possibility that Palin ordered the dismissal of Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper.

Culvahouse said that he asked follow-up questions during the interview, and "spent a lot of time with her lawyer" on the matter.

"We came out of it knowing all that we could know at the time," he said.

As for the financial records review, Culvahouse said: "It was very clean. We had no issues there."

Throughout the process, the campaign said, Davis had multiple conversations with Palin.

He refused to be released from prison...
because there were men who had been there longer than he had and he felt using his dad's clout to get him out was wrong for those men, and it was, and that takes the kind of courage and integrity Barack Obama can only dream about.

How can you say he never regretted it? Does Obama regret throwing a friend and mentor, the man who baptized his children, under the bus for his political career? This is a man you should trust? Hello??

Judith Miller released from jail.

Her source?

Well, none other than *Scooter* Libby, CHENEY'S CHIEF OF STAFF.

Aren't we fortunate to have such honest, ethical, patriotic Cons in the White House?  Seems a lot of them could learn a lot about confidentiality and ethics from a member of that horribly corrupt mainstream media -- Judith Miller!!

New 'Bin Laden message' released...sm
I guess he's still alive and sending videos.
-------------

From BBC: New 'Bin Laden message' released
Osama Bin Laden

This would be Bin Laden's fourth message this year
A new recording purportedly from al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden has been posted on an Islamic website.

He praised Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the al-Qaeda leader killed in Iraq three weeks ago, as the lion of holy war.

The video, lasting 19 minutes, shows a still picture of Bin Laden, and moving pictures of al-Zarqawi.

The recording's authenticity has not been verified, but if it is confirmed, it would be the fourth audio message Bin Laden has released this year.

However, no new video images of the al-Qaeda leader have appeared since October 2004.

Last week a video was broadcast purportedly showing the deputy leader of al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahri in which he paid tribute to Zarqawi and said his death would be avenged.

Universal fight

In the latest recording, Bin Laden addresses US President George W Bush, warning him not to be too happy about Zarqawi's death, for the banner [of al-Qaeda in Iraq] hasn't dropped but has passed from one lion of Islam to another lion.

Bin Laden says al-Qaeda will go on with operations against the US and its allies.

We will continue, God willing, to fight you and your allies everywhere, he said, in Iraq and Afghanistan and in Somalia and Sudan until we waste all your money and kill your men.

In an apparent reference to a campaign against Iraq's Shias by Zarqawi, Bin Laden addressed those who accuse Abu Musab of killing certain sectors of the Iraqi people.

Abu Musab had clear instructions to focus his fight on the occupiers, he went on, particularly the Americans and to leave aside anyone who remains neutral.

He called on President Bush to return Zarqawi's body to his family, and used rhyming couplets to eulogise the dead al-Qaeda leader.
That's when the letter was dated. It could have been written the day he released it.
Why would he quit the day after his dad accepted the nomination and not release the letter then?
Meixco has released a travel alert.
College campuses here are posting warnings on their websites, warning students that the violence has gotten very bad and they may be targeted or even killed.  From a friend who works down there regularly, it is that bad and he says it is only a matter of time before something extremely violent happens to tourists.  He hears it in the streets and he watches his back constantly.  Mexican drug lords are gearing up to use these tourists for ransom......

oops - made a mistake - the other guy's book was released during the campaign -
I am sorry that I was wrong. Obama's book had already been released.

The first copy obviously sold really well though considering the amount of money they paid him to do the sequel.
brain study
I read a study where they did brain scans on democrats and republicans and while scanning showed pictures of war.  The republican brains lit up on the opposite side than the democrat brains.  So, the study surmised that just maybe our brains were built to work differently and that could be why we have a take on things so radically differently.  I will try to find the article and post the net address.
We all better study up on socialism..it's on its way
if people don't smarten up and look beyond the promises and pretty speeches.
I know where I live they do have to study and take a ..
test to become an american citizen, then they can legally work in America and pay taxes.  I don't know what it is like where you live though.
Since when did a Bible study..........sm
become a business meeting?

Bible studies, in case you didn't know, are not the same as Sunday morning meetings. They are for discussion and study of the Bible, nothing more, nothing less. Collection plates are not passed and church business is not generally discussed at Bible studies. Churches do have business meetings, however, in which church business is discussed and that is normally done in the church building. Since, as you point out, churches do not pay taxes, then that would, in my estimation, eliminate them as being a business, so therefore, a Bible study is not a business or business meeting. Apart from the subject matter, it is no different than 10 or 15 good old boys getting together on a Sunday afternoon to watch the races on Bubba's big-screen TV.

I read the article and the questions the law officer asked related specifically to a religious organization. I don't remember seeing where he asked if collections were taken during the meeting, only if they prayed, read the Bible, etc. This very much sounds to me like targeting a Christian group, nothing less. I hope the pastor asks his neighbors if they called the police because that is exactly what sounds like happened.
new study states political

leanings are partially genetic.  Those who startle easily are more likely to be republican.  Those who are on a more even keel and do not startle at small noises or movements are more likely to be democrats.  I would say this board supports those conclusions.

It seems to me that this study shows that conservatives (sm)
are MORE concerned about others than democrats. They see a picture of SOMEONE ELSE who is hurt or dead and they react more than the democrats. I used to think of myself as being fairly liberal, but if that means being associated with the type of people many of the democrats who post on here appear to be, then no thanks, I'll call myself conservative. Actually I always vote for the candidate I agree with most, regardless of party.
I love to study Revelations

I have read many, many commentaries on Revelations  but I also enjoy researching and studying myself.  There are some, some I know personally, who sincerely believe McCain is the anti-Christ.  I don't believe that.  I do believe the anti-Christ is alive in the world today.  According to the Bible, even we believers will be deceived if it were possible.  We are to watch and wait.  Jesus tells us not to be afraid.  I'm here to tell ya I expect the Rapture at any minute and I also believe that some preachers will still be in the pulpits preaching, politicians will be politicing and they'll all be trying to figure out what happened to all those people. I would urge everyone to accept the free insurance policy offered by Jesus Christ.  If I understand anything in Revelations, it is that the end times are going to be so far worse than anything we can imagine, I sure wouldn't want to be left behind.  Anyone can't help but see if reading the New Testament through and seeking understanding, that the very end times are even now beginning to be played out and this is only the beginning.  This could not have possibly been prophysized 2000 years ago without divine intervention.......that makes total sense to me.

I used to didn't think so but I am beginning to think the U.S. will play some kind of major role in the end times, either that or we will all be brought to our knees.  EVERY knee shall bow..............the thing is, will Jesus be our defense lawyer when we stand before God or will He be our prosecuting attorney?  It'll be one or the other.  My heart breaks for those who hear and refuse to believe.

I scored 54.55% - guess I need to study more.
:-)
Guess what - you can commission a STUDY to say whatever you want it to.
Oh, yes, the great evil VOUCHER. Let us all collectively shudder and quake.

I mean, what an outrage! Letting a PARENT determine what is in the best interest of THEIR CHILD. Oh my God! I mean, whoever heard of a country letting PARENTS make carefully-considered, informed DECISIONS? What's next! Letting women VOTE?! Heaven forbid! Good grief. Do you even understand how the voucher system works? Or do you just Google and let someone else do the thinking for you?

And your solution would be, what? Oh, I know.

Let's all just shove our kids in detention, surround them with barbed wire, and give them more free lunches.

That ought to provide a great crop of citizens, dontcha think?
I heard today that this study
was commissioned during the Bush administration.  However, the timing of its release seems to be no coincidence.
Having Bible study is NOT a business.....
Are you actually so lame that you believe you have to be in a church to have Bible study? Maybe you need to go to one then.

If Bible study were a business, then having a meeting for cub scouts, girl scouts, weekly poker get togethers would be a business then wouldn't it?

Please...... you and those like you are the problem. They have no beliefs whatsoever in anything and couldn't care less if religious freedom is stripped from us or not.

What a shame! By the way, last time I checked, gays and lesbians have the same rights I do..... they are free to go to Bible study too!!

and a Bible study is not a church either sm
There is a difference. Its about CHRISTIAN persecution!
what part of "Bible study" do you sm
not understand??? A Bible study is not a business meeting. This has nothing to do with taxes. I bet the people that attend the Bible study pay plenty of taxes themselves.

What next, a permit to have more than 15 people over at Thanksgiving and Christmas? Gotta pay taxes???? Please. Tupperware reps and Bible studies.........so far apart. Obviously you know nothing about a simpel Bible study.
I just read an independent study that says that only 20% of the public believe

or associate Democrats with christianity.  It's actually down and has been consistently going down.  Of course, I know a lot of Christian Democrats.  None of them seem to post here, but I know many in my private life. They are far to the right, though, like Democrats use to be

I am plenty old to vote, study all the issues, as well

again, a Bible study at someones house sm
is not a church service. There shouldn't be collecting money, etc. etc.

If the government keeps this stuff up and the folks that support this kind of stuff keep on, it will be one day where you can't even have a family gathering at your house without a permit!

What if half your neighborhood has 15-20 people at their house for all the holidays? Going by what you have posted, that would be a dangerous situation. Aer there enough exits, proper fire extinguishers, etc. etc. People do it all the time. Its called socializing!

Again this is nothing but a serious effort to stop Christians from gathering at all. Nothing but Satan at work.
