The rudeness is actually a 2-sided street. There are times that trying to have a debate/discussion with a fundamentalist Christian is like reasoning with a child...the whole "Because I said so" does not really lend itself to crafting a response. I agree that a post strictly to give a raspberry to another poster is a waste of time and belittles the entire discussion, although a post saying "Because that's what Jesus says" is probably the Christian equivalent, and adds nothing.
And Christians are indeed on the Hate Crime bill, under the auspices of religion. The bill does not inhibit free speech or even bigotry. It simply (!) enhances the criminal penalties for crimes based solely on any of the criteria set forth. So say, for example, a group of crazed Hassidic Jews assaults you simply for being a Gentile, the punishment for that would be greater for that than if the assaulted you because your tennis shoes were on the wrong feet.
