what you think these mean-spirited petty little snipes add to the conversation? Why don't you take your mind out of the gutter and put your thinking cap on?
Time for a fresh start with this beleaguered agency. In view of the MAJOR intelligence screw-ups under Bush, the person who becomes the head of the CIA needs advanced managerial skills (so the left hands knows what the right hand is doing at all times) and the capacity to gain the trust of the President, Congress and the intelligence community who are looking for sweeping changes, sooner rather than later.
It should come as no surprise that O would keep a 10-foot-pole distance from anybody and everybody currently associated with the CIA. Panetta has a bipartisan reputation as being fiscally responsible and for having INTEGRITY. One of his first tasks will be to mend fences between the CIA and Congress, who took a bad wrap, shall we say, on account of the agency's abysmal disorganization and flawed, seedy work leading up to the war, and to garner cooperation between them with an eye on reform. Sounds like a pretty tall order to me.
Within the agency, they will need someone who can move them past the specter of the Bush administration policies ASAP. Should he manage to gain the trust of Congress, he will be able to move the agency out from under the yoke of congressional micromanagement and they won't need to visit Capitol Hill every other day to testify in hearings. He will also need to be someone O can trust to represent his policies and agenda well.
I for one would be interested in what O has to say about his reasons for choosing Panetta are. I'll bet they have nothing to do with the Clintons of with ML.
