What I woulda' done -

To begin with, after 9/11, I would've focused the US's military power and resources solely on AFGHANISTAN... the country that ATTACKED us. I would've made sure we hit them hard, and would not have stopped until Bid Laden had been caputured or killed. Attacking Iraq when there was no need, spreading our recource far too thin, and then leaving the job in Afghanistan unfinished was a foolish & negligent act, in my opinion. And Bin Laden is still alive & free.

What a message to send to the rest of the world: That we can't even successfully retaliate against a 3rd-world country like Afghanistan; that we'll go to war with any country on a whim, whether it's justified or not; and that once at war, we pull the air power out of the picture too soon and leave our ground troops to be picked off daily by snipers & car bombs.

If I were Pres., I'd work to keep Church & State separate, as it states in the Constitution, rather than encouraging religion to infiltrate every part of our government. And I'd have no tolerance for that hate-groups in this country that hide behind the mask of religious beliefs.

I'd work to put an end to large, unscrupulous companies in this country getting all the perks and tax-breaks, while the average US citizen gets further and further in the hole financially. There would be fewer corporate loopholes, and more penalties for the selling of our country's jobs to the lowest bidder.

As was suggested on the news this morning, I'd also launch an investigation into oil & energy speculation, and hopefully have that practice yanked from the stock market.

Regardless of what happens in the oil market, whether it goes higher, or back down again, if I were Pres., I'd have the government offer incentives to scientists, inventors, corporations, the auto & energy industries, ANYONE who can get us on the fast-track to complete freedom from fossil fuel -- not 100 years from now, but in the immediate future. If we can put men on the moon and robots on Mars, there's no reason why we can't have a completely clean and self-sustaining energy system. If we can make hand-held, combination phone/computer/MP3-players the size of a deck of cards or smaller, then why can't we come up with solar panels small, powerful, & inexpensive enough to power our cars, boats, air-conditioners, home appliances, and everything else? This is supposedly a country that can 'do anything', so maybe it's abou time to do just that.
