Thanks, Americans who are finally waking up from the Bush kool-aid

Apathy Conquered, Thanks To Sheehan

Cindy Sheehan will go down in history as the woman who, in a determined yet soft-spoken, dignified manner, stoked the fires of debate and made them hotter.
Uneasiness often results in mere apathy.
But to bring similar factions together to speak with one voice requires an icon to lead, and Sheehan has become that
With both sides of the Iraq issue now embroiled in debate, the United States cannot help but benefit, for overall, it is the people who are taking sides and ordering their political employees to act, not the other way around.
For too long, Americans have withered into complacency, which is a breeding ground for imperialism.
They now realize that one person can make a difference.
They are speaking on the sidewalks; they are speaking in coffeehouses. They are discussing politics in their homes.
They are identifying problems that, prior to the bold and courageous actions of Cindy Sheehan, they felt they could not change.
They now know differently.
They want their President, their Congressmen, and their Senators to come clean.
They want to know why gasoline prices continue to skyrocket.
They want to know why President Bush lied about going to war with Iraq.
They want to know why the Federal government continues to eat away at the dignity of the Constitution.
They want to know why the environment is being shortchanged.
They want to know why lawmakers are spending the Social Security trust fund.
They want to know why the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer.
They are tired of being lied to.
They know, thanks to Cindy Sheehan, that the time has come for America to get back on track and for light to again shine on the so-called American dream.
Now that more than 60 percent of the American people want an end to the war in Iraq, what will our leaders in Washington do? Abide by the will of their employers or continue to hawk our rights to their own special interests?
That is where we are.
Where we go depends upon you.

New Bush rule makes it easier to hire foreign workers

Dec 10, 8:43 PM EST

Administration changes to farm worker hiring afoot

By SUZANNE GAMBOA
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- As it prepares to leave office, the Bush administration is moving to make it easier for U.S. farming companies to hire foreign field workers, which farmworker groups say will worsen wages and working conditions.

Farm groups said that changes to the H2A visa program, used by the agriculture industry to hire temporary farm workers, were posted on the Labor Department's Web site at midnight Tuesday but have since been taken down.

Labor Department spokesman Terry Shawn said whatever was posted wasn't the final version of the new rule, which Shawn said would be released Thursday and published in the Federal Register on Dec. 18.

The Bush administration published a proposed version of the new rule last Feb. 13 and received nearly 12,000 public comments, Shawn added. The next version will be a final rule and can take effect 30 days after publication. Some of its provisions would take effect in mid-January and others later in the year, the farmworker groups said.

Farm worker advocates and the United Farm Workers union said the version that appeared on the Web site would lead to a flood of cheaper workers.

"The government has decided to offer agriculture employers really low wages, low benefits, no government oversight to bring in foreign workers on restricted visas and thereby convince them they should do this instead of hiring undocumented workers," said Bruce Goldstein, executive director of Farmworker Justice, a group that advocates for farmworkers.

The changes in the posted version would drop a requirement that an employer get the Labor Department to certify it faces a worker shortage before it can get visas for foreign workers; instead, employers would be allowed to simply attest in writing to a shortage. That version of the new rule also would change the method for calculating wage minimums for workers and relieve employers of a requirement to recruit in states or communities where other employers already are hiring farm workers, Goldstein said.

But Assistant Labor Secretary Leon Sequeira said Wednesday evening the agency is not dropping the obligation to obtain certification, which is required by law.

Paul Schlegel, American Farm Bureau public policy director, said many of the changes will make the program a little less burdensome for employers. He said existing laws prevent employers from hiring foreign workers if the jobs can be filled by U.S. workers.

"My members want to make sure they have a legal supply of labor," said Schlegel, who added that he had not reviewed all the proposed changes.

The rule changes are a part of a pattern of last-minute regulatory changes being rushed into effect by the Bush administration before President-elect Barack Obama's Jan. 20 inauguration.

The effect is to make it harder for Obama to change course on some policies favored by Republicans and the business community.

"We are hopeful that the Obama administration would recognize the utter mistake and unfairness of this proposal," Goldstein said. Congress has a procedure for reversing the rules, he said.

Many of the last-minute changes by the Bush administration have come in the area of public lands and the environment, including easing regulations on mining waste and allowing handguns in national parks. Another pending rule would grant greater leeway to railroads to transport hazardous materials through densely populated areas.

Bush is gone, YEA!!! and yeah, it could darn well be Bush! LOL.
Chimp boy!! But, the cartoon is NOT about Bush, now is it?  Give me a break.
Yeah, just look at Bush and all he's done.....
x
Respect him the same way they did Bush?? Yeah right. nm
nm
Yeah except she said she voted for BUSH
right on target.
Good point. Yeah, maybe that is the norm there.
nm
yeah, HAHAHA Judy, Good one
:)
Yeah, it is so easy to bash Bush, but say one little
nm
Yeah, JTBB - they don't want to hear how bad BUSH was
How dare you point out the obvious? They don't want to be reminded about who REALLY put is in this bind. Don't be so inconsiderate! LOL!!
Yeah well, Bush was President and you were a citizen...
there were wars on several fronts and you darned well wanted to know every little thing he knew including who he saw in the White House, but you don't demand the same out of your godlike hero the great and powerful O. What is WRONG with this picture? You know what the scary thing is? You don't SEE what is wrong with this picture. lol.
Oh, yeah. I see now why you've got such a *feel good* attitude.

Lurker had the courage to try to debate you, tried to ignore your rude comments and personal attacks.  Yes, your intelligent debate triggered responses by Lurker, as follow:

Please do not preach at me and tell me I don't understand the concept of working for a living. I try my best not to berate or belittle anyone on this board and I would appreciate the same consideration.

Please don’t lump me in your hate and rhetoric category. I don't belong there.

I am very disheartened at this time and altho I have taken a couple of weeks off these boards, evidently it is not enough time, my emotions are still too raw to be on a politics board, either one of them. So, again, I will remove myself from this setting for awhile. Aho.

I can see from her above post why you're so happy.  Looks like you succeeded in chasing her away for a while, too.

Yeah...good thing she isn't debating Obama...
nm
Yeah, we know JTBB. Bush=evil. O=saint.
nm
Yeah, it was, sorry.....I just don't think poking fun at sick people is a good thing to do....
and that was the thread. I think we are ALL better than that, much better things to talk about than that. So, I apologize...I will keep my indignation on the part of those who are the butt of jokes because of physical deformities to myself. I am better than stinging rebuttals myself..I will take my own advice.

Have a good day, vv, my friend.
Nothing good is possible under Bush.
Govt approval ratings are low across the board right now for Bush and most incumbents on both sides of the aisle. This is no more than a reflection on how destructive and demoralizing 8 years under the Bush regime has been for us all and why change is the order of the day.

We have a lame duck Congress under a lame duck president. Dems do not spend a whole lot of time sitting around worrying about approval ratings...theirs, or anybody else's for that matter. We have important work to do and that is what we are doing...focusing on the issues, putting out the message, articulating policy, contrasting our candidate with his opponent, fielding smut politics, lies, rumor, innuendo and the like from the right-wingers, getting the vote out, energizing our base and focusing all our attention on making sure that we have only 4 more months, not 4 more years. Nothing is more important than that. We will be voting the spineless among us out and replacing them with new blood and backbone from our party. We can worry about the approval ratings after that lays behind us.
SAY GOOD BYE TO G.W. BUSH

Regardless of who 'WINS' in November, we ALL win in January when we get to watch that crook leave OUR WhiteHouse...

History will show he was the all time worst, and that Americans, the American media, and the Congress ALLOWED him to trash our Constitution and raid our treasury to pay for fake wars for 8 years. We are all responsible.

I THINK WE NEED A NATIONAL HOLIDAY TO ALL SAY BUH-BYE TO W....

If that was good enough for Bush...... sm
it's good enough for Obama.

Can't stand it when the microscope is put on your guy, huh?

Yeah and Bush's policies got us in a fine mess didn't they?

Yeah, and guess who he'll blame the whole four years....yep...bush...nm

Yeah, I remember the "Catholics for Bush" signs during the 2004 election
so much for churches staying out of govt
A good question for Bush/Cheney
Why hasn't bin Laden been captured/killed?  Why was his family secretly flown out of the country without being detained for questioning?  Someone needs to call Bush/Cheney to account but I doubt it will happen.  Too many crooks on board.
Bush tells Larry King that Ken Lay was a *good guy*

Video at:  http://thinkprogress.org/2006/07/07/bush-lay/

Transcript:

KING: The death of Ken Lay.

G. BUSH: Yes, yes.

KING: I know he was your friend. How do you feel? Were you shocked?

G. BUSH: I was. I was very surprised. You know, just — my hope is that his heart was right with the Lord, and I feel real sorry for his wife. She’s had a rough go, and she’s now here on earth to bear the burdens of losing her husband, a man she loved.

KING: Was that whole thing, the whole Enron story shocking to you?

G. BUSH: Yes, yes.

KING: Because, I mean, you knew him pretty well from Texas, right?

G. BUSH: Pretty well, pretty well. I knew him. I got to know him. This — people don’t believe this, but he actually supported Ann Richards in the ‘94 campaign.

KING: She told me that.

G. BUSH: She did?

KING: She liked him a lot.

G. BUSH: Yes, he’s a good guy. And so what I did — then did was we had a business council, and I kept him on as the chairman of the business council. And, you know, got to know him and got to see him in action.

One of the things I respected him for was he was such a contributor to Houston’s civil society. He was a generous person. I’m disappointed that there was this — he betrayed the trust of shareholders, but…

KING: Did you know him well, Mrs. Bush?

L. BUSH: I knew him. Not really well, but I did know him.

KING: Did you know his wife?

L. BUSH: And I know Linda and I’m sorry for her.

KING: Did you contact her?

L. BUSH: I haven’t.

G. BUSH: I haven’t yet. I’m going to write her a letter at some point in time.

All Bush's fault....good grief....talk about denial...
Fannie and freddie? Ring a bell? BarneyRubble on the finance committee who said (on video) why there is nothing to worry about! Fannie is sound...and even if it wasn't, the government wouldn't bail them out....ROFL. DEMOCRAT. Bush Admin and John McCain in particular years ago telling them a crisis was looming but BarneyRubble and his crew not only did nothing, they encouraged Fannie to loan even more to people who had no prayer of paying it back...with credit rating less than 0. So tell me again how it was Bush's fault...do you realize how silly that makes your post sound? Get real???? COME ON. LOL. Obama is trying...trying what? To turn us into a welfare state for sure? Yup. Throwing us down the slippery slope of socialism? Yup. Not only trying, people like you are helping him. Well, enjoy is all I can say. Glad I didn't vote for him. This is all you folks. :)
That's good. Lets all stand up and applaud Bush & Co. for decreasing the 427 billion
dollar projected budget to 333 billion (which they are attributing to a tighter budget and more tax revenue).

Going from a surplus to a 333 billion dollar deficit, not to shabby, eh?
LMAO.

LMAO! I will keep that in mind.
My dad taught me to shoot a rifle as well.  I'm not much into shooting guns, but at least I know that I can if I had to.  I don't hunt but I don't have a problem with people who do as long as they use the meat.  All the hunters in my family use the meat.  My dad also taught me to shoot a bow and arrow and I was actually better at that than shooting a rifle.  I think it was the anticipation of the loud bang in combination with me being knocked on my rear end a few times that made me not want to shoot rifles a lot.  LOL.
LMAO. I do not like green eggs and ham

If Obama is a monkey, Michelle looks more like a gorilla.
