I do agree. It was a lose/lose situation for him either way.
Very sad.
temporary jobs lead to permanent jobs -
projects are always just temporary; however, they lead to more permanent positions. Also, by the time some of these "temporary" jobs are over, the crisis should be settling down too. Do you think that rebuilding our infrastructure is going to happen in a day, week, or month?

What should we do? Tell these people who will be temporarily paid not to work for the next couple of years on these jobs because they are only temporary? That is a good idea - nobody do the temporary jobs, that way the projects will never get done and the deficit will not go up, and the economy will just continue to decline...

That's a great way to handle it!
Hang in there
Hey there. I am also feeling the pressure from conservatives reguarding womens rights. It's like Bill said, we live in a three demensional world, and have a two demensional president. Hang in there, we got to stick together!
Hang in there. Don't let them run you off....
that is how radicalism works. Bully tactics. Just let it roll off your back and don't let them bait you. Post your point and then let them attack you for it. You don't have to respond to every one of them. That kind of things says more about them than it does about you. You are every bit as entitled to your opinion as they are. Keep standing up...don't let them silence you. You go, girl!
Hang on to yer hat....
not the first time I said I was sorry...but when yer wrong, yer wrong, and I owned up. :)
Now hang on!
This is exactly why we "Christians" get picked at so much!

She was explaining her belief. Don't just attack. I believe just like you do that Jesus is the Messiah but she was giving evidence for why she believes what she does. That is no reason for attack. She already knows what we as Christians believe. If you want to change minds, give points and facts, and decent comments, don't just attack.

(BTW wowzer I keep saying she, and if you happen to be a he, I'm sorry!)
Hang in there....(sm)
You'll get used to it.  It won't be anytime and you'll be just as nitpicky as the rest of us...LOL.
Hang in there, annabanana....

oh boy...... Hang on to your hats! sm
Gonna be a long and bumpy ride, I do believe.

Good to see you back, GP! You have been missed!
At least Bush did not hang around
Sorry, no offense to those in Chicago area, but I hear a lot of bad officials from Chicago.
He likes to hang around them.
about them since the first thing on his list is Gitmo.

DELTA DISASTER:
HANG TOGETHER

By JOHN PODHORETZ

FOR the second time in four years, the United States has been changed utterly by a previously unthinkable event. And just as was the case after 9/11, how this nation responds to the deluge that is sweeping New Orleans away will help define the nature of its character for decades.

Just as Rudy Giuliani said that the death toll from 9/11 would be more than any of us can bear, the same is already true of Katrina. Who can begin to take in the notion that in the United States in the 21st century, a storm could kill in staggering numbers?

At the beginning of the 20th century, something like 8,000 people perished when Galveston, Texas — unprotected from storm swells at the time — was hit by a hurricane. But when Hurricane Andrew leveled the entire town of Homestead, Fla., 13 years ago and became the most financially deadly storm in American history, it took only 15 lives.

Now we're talking about several hundred times that number in the literal swamping of one of the world's great cities.

There can be no doubt that the immediate response will be one of breathtaking generosity — financial, spiritual and personal. That's what we saw in the wake of 9/11, it's what happened after the tsunami in December, and it's what we will begin to see as the next few days pass.

But what we don't yet know is this: Are we going to try to look forward, to figure out how to save New Orleans and prevent another calamity of this sort there and elsewhere? Or are we going to begin finger-pointing, searching for villains among the debris?

Some of that villain-hunting has already begun, in the typically vulgar, unwisely speedy efforts made by overly assured ideologues certain that they can connect a cataclysm to a pet issue — whether it be the American failure to pass the Kyoto global warming treaty or making the claim that spending on the war in Iraq squeezed out the possibility of shoring up the New Orleans levees.

Here we see the stirrings of a spiritual divisiveness taking hold — in the form of a know-nothing populism that sweeps everything in its wake and brings everything into the courtroom.

What happened here was a natural disaster. But there will be the temptation to turn it into a human conspiracy of greed and selfishness on the part of oil companies, concrete companies, politicians, insurers, re-insurers, goonish cops and the like.

If the recriminations become the story of the next months, everybody will simply go to the usual battle stations. The tort reformers will take on the trial lawyers. The global-warming crowd will face off against American business. The politicians will scream at each other, scoff at each other, and try to find some cheap advantage that will turn the tide against one party or the other.

The good that will be done —person by person, donation by donation, community by community — will be in danger of getting swamped by the bitterness and divisiveness that characterizes contemporary elite politics. Rather than finding common ground, there will be ugly partisanship and a cold standoff.

The horror of a flood is literally, very nearly the oldest story in the Book. There have always been times that the water will rise higher than the walls men can build to contain it. The New Orleans system survived the battering of nature for more than 200 years — but it met its match and was overwhelmed by it.

The best we can do is comfort the afflicted, mourn the lost, and try to rebuild. The worst we can do is turn on each other.

So what shall it be? E-mail:

MT doesn't hang around here much anymore. sm
So I am going to take up for her.  Frankly, I am not sure why you are so upset.  So your friend exaggerated.  Lots of people do that.  MT (and most of us) have certainly taken our licks on these boards a lot of times. I really don't see why you being so mean about it.
We should hang our heads in shame that
xoxoxo
lots of fish hang around those

offshore drilling rigs.  huh huh huh.

Cyndiee, you hang in there girl, I am
beginning to enjoy your posts. You are really sounding like a real AMERICAN GIRL! Pooey on this hate between the dems and pubs. I had a boss one time that I just could barely tolerate and had to sit right next to him every day. But, I respected his position of leadership. Mr. Bush is no longer our president, and I also respected his position of leadership as I do Mr. Obamas. That is not to say I agree with either of their policies or beliefs. As long as our country is divided by such bitterness and hate for each other just because one is a dem and one is a pub, we will never heal. We have to remember that we are ALL AMERICANS!

And just remember, everyone may not have been effected by this economy yet, but I truly believe they will feel it. I certainly would not be bragging about great everything is right now! I have grandchildren in college and, due to the market crash, we don't have near as much to worry about leaving to children and grandchildren!!
Most dems hang around 1-2 days, then move on
nm
Hope they hang on 4 more years. That's all I need before I retire (nm)

What if Obama didn't hang around with terrorists? What if he was not a long-time follower of a r
Then I would be voting for him.
I am not willing to lose what

I've earned through my hard work to give to some lazy bum who would rather mooch than work for a living.  I'm not willing to lose my freedom.  To me....it seems like government wants to take control over more things and when will it end.

I do not support our president because I do not believe his goals and agenda will help anyone who really needs the help.  It will continue to enable moochers to keep on mooching.  It will hurt charities by taxing the rich.....who, BTW, are the biggest donators to charities.  It will hurt businesses by taxing them more and in turn they will cut back and lay off workers, not hire more employees.  Cap and trade will hurt everyone as gas prices will sore, utility costs will sky rocket, and the price for all goods and services will go up.  That doesn't help people who have to decide which is more imporant....gas to get to work or food to put on the table.

To stand by and let these things happen because we support our country and just have to see how things come together......to me that is just ignorant.  That is how we ended up in this situation in the first place.  We supported our country and put our trust in government (dems and pubs alike) and we ended up getting it stuck to us.

The U.S. didn't lose.
We weren't allowed to win.
How many did you lose on Sept 11?
Probably none. I did. I still can hardly believe that they country I live in, have ALWAYS felt safe in and never, EVER thought anything like that would happen in...did. Don't you get it? It did. I for one do not ever, EVER want it to happen again. I'd give every dime I have and every dime I'll ever make to have those back that I lost.
Yes, investors have a lot to lose....
and investors are not just "the rich." Many companies' 401Ks for their employees are in the stock market. People should be VERY careful about what they think they want...the effects could be disastrous for an already weak economy.
here are a few if my candidates lose -
1. Get up Wed. AM, after election, turn on TV. See my faves didn't win. My reaction: 'Oh, cr@p!'

2. my actions: Eat cereal and drink coffee.

3. Where to go from thERE?
BACK TO BED!

4. What will I flee? My low-paying MT job, which most likely will never get any better.
Don't lose sleep over it
Win or lose, we'll be rebuilding the Republican party.  That means purging the RINOs, too.  That's more than can be said for the Dems.
I believe they lose a portion of their
social security. I agree that it is unfortunate and absurd that senior citizens are treated as they are. As far as her obit, that was the family. Could be they did not agree with the situation or had a problem with him. At least he was mentioned although it must have hurt him deeply. Long-time same sex partners are usually not mentioned at all.
they did not lose one person
They lost an entire generation and their children too probably. Can you say 529 no more?
I'll double that 'amen', and I'll raise you one!
amen
Just think about that for a minute...
Think what that would mean to Americans. Death penality if you do not follow one religion. Hands cut off for stealing. Stoned to death for adultery. Stoned to death or worse for homosexuality. No TV other than state TV. No western music. No abortions. No living together outside marriage. Girls killed by their own families for premarital sex. No divorce. Women in total subjection in a society totally dominated by males. Some of the practices and lifestyles this country has come to accept in the name freedom, whether good or bad, gone in a heartbeat. The scary thing is that a good part of this country will go on thinking that can't happen here...and unfortunately that may be the death knell of America as we know it. I shudder to think. All Christians no matter what denomination need to hit their knees and pray hard that that does not happen to our country, and we need to support our country's efforts in Iraq and support the men and women who are there trying to keep just this thing from happening. We are losing the will to fight, and in so doing are rolling onto our backs to expose our belly to the wolves. Sorry to be so graphic, but that is about what it amounts to. Some things ARE worth fighting for. God bless us all!
don't believe it for a minute

This man has changed his mind (that's a nice way of saying he lies) as much as Biden did in the debate last PM.  Keep in mind that literally anything that is "gov't-sponsored" is actually YOU sponsored.  You take home less money (less than you do now, that's for sure), you hand over even more control to "the gov't," etc.

If nothing else, look how everything "the gov't" does gets more screwed up every time "they" touch it.  The bailout they just signed had thousands of pages added to it.  That's the name of that tune.  Hope this helps.

Incidentally, I don't give anyone a free pass.  That's something I've never understood.

Let us for a minute consider this

in a different way.

Let us say that your son or daughter are in school.  They are very good students.  They do their homework, study, and get good grades.  In fact, they get an A.  However, another little girl or boy didn't do so well in class.  Instead...they got a D.  Now an A is above average and a D is below average as I'm sure all of you aware of.  So the A student can afford to lose part of their grade right because they are above average.  So let us say that we take a bit of the A grade to up the unfortunate child who received a D so that way they get a C.  That would make the unfortunate child have an average grade.  Now the child earning the A but having it taken away is very upset.  They worked so hard for that A but because others felt she could afford to give up part of her A so another child could bring a below average grade up to an average grade would make the whole school a happy place because everyone would be average.  No one would be below average.  But the A student gets very down and stops trying because what is the point.  The A they earned will be taken away any way.  The D student continues to get below average grades because....hey...no big deal...teacher will just take it from an A student and I'll be average.  No harm done except now the A student is getting lower grades because their hard work has been penalized and they have stopped trying.

If this were happening in our school systems each and every one of us would have an absolute fit but that is exactly what Barrack Obama is wanting to do to us.  Instead he is doing it with our hard-earned money.

Think about this for a minute s/m
Think anchor babies............they are natural born babies aren't they?  You want to see a child of  ILLEGAL ALIEN parents become president?  That would be a fine example of our Constitution since it would give them every right to run for the presidency.  Well, wake up, that is very likely to happen!
Let's look at this a minute

First, $60,000 per year is not exactly in the wealthy category but even in this day it is or should be enough to pay for the necessities with some money left over.

Do I pay for everything with cash?  You betcha!  We have done so for years while we scrimped and saved to pay off the mortgage, get the cars paid off, etc.  Then that money instead of going into finer living went into savings.  We still live frugally because we fully expect that we will have to help our kids who are not yet old enough to have followed our advice...I might add that of 4 only 1 (Joe the real life plumber) has the desire to follow in our footsteps.  People these days want bigger houses, newer cars, more "stuff" to keep up with the Jones and have kept buying what they can't afford...when their credit runs out then what?  Bankruptcy?  Bush pretty well took that option off the table.  I fully expect debtor's prison to be the next thing on the agenda.

Use your head.  If the middle class does well everyone does well.  Where's the middle class now?  But the greed is still there and that includes greedy people as well as greedy big business.

As for the rebates.....I was NOT in favor of the rebates and said they would do no good........they didn't.  Mine went into the mattress and I'd gladly give it back if it would help this economy.  I imagine the majority of people threw money at the credit card bill collectors hoping to stave them off another day or so.  So who benefited from that?

novelty VP choices always lose

Geraldine Ferraro.  Gore and Lieberman, etc.

I agree with you. He/she should lose license. nm
.
Dang! 208 to 228 didn't lose by much (sm)

Both Suzy Orman and Jim Cramer were on the Today show and they thought it was a good deal which, I might add, surprised me.

I wonder what will happen now.

There goes my 401K!

Lose the "denial" accusation will ya.
x
Thinking that the democrats would lose is exactly, well....
Thanks for proving my point for me.
win or lose......it's not our place to intervene
we continually give Israel the very tools they use to give to terrorists groups who when the terrorists groups no longer do Israel's bidding, then Israel wants to turn on them. They may have good reason down the road but Israel needs to stop playing the terrorists like pieces on a chess board if they don't want them turning around decades down the road and turning on them.....
Let's lose the "teabagger" thing, okay?
X
This is getting better every minute, MT. You claim to know who's AGAINST you when you can't

even figure out who's WITH you, as evidenced by the little hissy fit above between you and another CON!!!

Please keep posting.  You're getting whackier with each post and revealing yourself for the nut case you truly are!!!

Plus, I'm intrigued by all the different voices in your head who surface at different times.  I guess tonight TM is doing the talking, and TM seems to be even more rude and angry and hateful than you usually are.

Why so angry, MT?  Roberts was confirmed today.  Why aren't you happy?  Or do you just have a terminal case of chronic bitterness, no matter what? Have you ever been nice to ANYONE?

PLEASE keep posting.  You're quite entertaining, even if in a pathetic sort of way.

wait a minute there
if you are wealthy and repub, drug addiction is an ILLNESS.  If you are middle class or poor and perhaps a person of color, it is CRIME.  Get your facts straight.
Not me for a minute!!! Foolish old man. nm

There's one born every minute.
You seem to have bought the Dem's propaganda hook, line and sinker. What a sucker.

There is none so blind as he who will not see.
i was lost for a minute. thank you

I don't believe this story for one minute!
The "B" carved in this young lady's cheek is more like scratch, and it is backwards. Have you ever looked at writing in a mirror? It's backwards! This young lady may have been mugged, but she scratched the "B" in her cheek all by herself. She is also a college Republican field representative, which makes this story even more fishy and explains her motive for doing this. Talk about stooping low...this is as low as it gets!
Oh now, wait a minute
Isn't it the dems that hate rich old white folks. But, of course, you can't hate rich old black folks, right?

What a hypocrit!
So did anyone watch the 30-minute

Just think of what he spent on that.  That could be your hard-earned dollars at work in his big spending.  2 million bucks per station.  For 30 minutes of the same old stuff.

Yeah, he's going to cut your taxes after he reverses Bush's tax cuts.  You will end up paying more than you do now, that is for sure.

I wonder where he was sitting in the ad?  It looked like it could have been.....the Oval Office....

One minute inside, the next outside
My personal opinion is abortion would not be taking a life IF it could be done when it is still just cells (and not organs, limbs, and the like). The problem would be to catch it that quickly.

My thought for those who think it the baby is not "alive" until it is born ... well a couple minutes before it is born, it is still the same baby ... just in a different place. You are still just as alive when you are inside your house as when you are out in public. Same thing.
Wait a minute!!!!
So now it's unpatriotic to bash the president? Seriously?
