Once the right tonsil had been removed, the wound bed was packed with a 4x4. Using direct pressure, the wound bed was allowed to _____ (s/l get formolent) to control some bleeding. Following this, the packing was removed and the tonsillar fossa was inspected. An insulated bipolar caudate was used to cauterize isolated bleeding points that were noted at the inferior, middle, and superior poles. Satisfied that complete hemostasis had been achieved on the right side, the mouth gag was let down to allow the tongue some rest.
