bladder reflection - my 2 cents worth
Subject: bladder reflection - my 2 cents worth

In Dorland's "reflection" means a bending or turning back.  I have typed the expression often and am not truly sure how to explain it, but something like where the bladder is bent or folded onto the abdominal wall - as a location.   Below is an excert from Google.  What comes up in the notes I have is the following expression:

The anterior leaflet of the broad ligament on both sides was then incised along the bladder reflection to the midline from both sides and the bladder was gently dissected

The reflection of bladder on to the anterior abdominal wall is identified and the peritoneum divided at this position

10 cents per 65-char line
Subject: 10 cents per 65-char line

Hello all!  I will soon be signing a new contract with the company I have been with for three years plus.  I like them very much.  I read on some of the other boards and saw all the negative reports about so much, but I can't say that I have that with my company.  For the most part, I have as much work as I want.  I can have any one of 50 doctors out of  a university's surgical department.  It covers areas from head to toe.  No foreign guys.  The worst I have to put up with is sometimes fast speakers.  I have no problem getting off whenever I need to, just say I'm not available for these days.  I try to treat that with respect.  The pay is 10 cents per 65-character line.  No extra pay for stat work but there is not much stat work.  Any feedback?

my 2 cents.....sm
Subject: my 2 cents.....sm

A hyphen may be used after non- but is generally used when the base word begins with a capital letter. Generally, though, as long as the base word does not have special meaning; the word is understood if non is not used before the base word, then no hypen. Since the base word "dominant" is understood without the "non", then no hypen is necessary.....hope this makes sense.

It's prob a doc back-forming hemangioma into a word - hemangiated; assuming he might mean that it has vascularized and or taken on the appearance/characteristics of a hemangioma. I would have flagged it though; let your QA deal with doc's made-up words.

GI MT weighs in...for what it's worth:)
Subject: GI MT weighs in...for what it's worth:)

I type lab results a lot in my clinic notes and I would go with GGT, although I transcribe it as gamma-glutamyl transferase.

I haven't stumbled across anything for GDT, or GBT, or GDP, or anything close in Stedman's GI & GU words or in Stedman's Pathology & Lab medicine words.

Let us know if you are able to get feedback from your doctor regarding the correct term:) I'm interested to see how this pans out.

you learn overnight.  There are terms, abbreviations, words that sound so much alike, etc., etc.  Give it some time, and then decide if this is right for you.  Take criticism objectively not personally.  Research and find sample reports of physical exams, operative reports, progress notes, whatever you can get.  There is a lot of great help on this board, take note of helpful websites and study, study, study.  This is not a job that you can jump into and expect to know everything, it does take excellent hearing, grammar, patience and persistence.

Then we pulled the probe 2 inches above the level between the acidic and non-acidic line and then we taped it and anchored it and the baby started the breast-feeding right away after the probe placement.
