It just seems to me that the word "that" could be referring to perhaps a nutritional supplement or something that could improve the patient's nutritional status if the patient has a stricture or lesion that is causing whatever symptoms the patient has versus something else causing the symptoms. If this is the case, then I would type it this way:

Certainly, if there is any kind of stricture or lesion that might improve his nutritional status. This certainly could lead to his improved comfort and increased survival.
