Is it an antibiotic? It is the brand name for gatifloxacin. Gatifloxacin is used to treat certain types of lung, sinus, skin, and urinary tract infections caused by bacteria. Gatifloxacin is also used to treat certain types of gonorrhea infections (a sexually transmitted disease). Gatifloxacin is in a class of antibiotics called fluroquinolones. It works by killing the bacteria that cause infection. Gatifloxacin will not work against colds, flu, or other viral infections.
