There was a thread about this on the
main board. Apparently MT schools aren't providing any training at all in very basic terminology. One wonders what they are teaching.

on QA, etc.

Look down under the *caudal vater syndrome - debbie*  at the post with the subject line *  LOL!!!!! - sm *  It is hilarious.  but you really have to be familiar with the whole thread.  and if you are not  -  it is worth the time spent reading down the thread until you get to the LOL!!!!!-sm one.

I have been IN this thread since it started--sm

as *nn* as I believe I was the first to comment on this kathie's suggestion for caudal vater syndrome as having nothing to do with the low back. Anyway, then she made the comment about all diabetics having high blood pressure, and it raised the hair on the back of my neck. When I read LOL-sm post, I literally busted up laughing! I thought it was so funny and so FITTING. it put an end to the thread and made every one laugh...good ending to something that was getting ugly and sort of put the QA back a step or two, as well! It was great! Still laughing!

I thought you were the one who posted that it was NOT hyphenated in this case.  I see where you were the one who posted the 3 examples.  You weren't yelling at me, you were the one who agreed with me.  SORRY AGAIN!
LOL! Perhaps I printed yesterday's thread.

from top to bottom.  I was simply giving some help to the OP.  Whether she capitalized or not is her business.  I was just trying to point out in a quick instant that the "g" was silent in that word, hence her hearing "cushoined".  I am a very friendly and helpful person.  I was simply pointing that out to the poster above with the post beginning "you'd be wrong"!  So, I guess now I reek of sarcasm.  Again, I have broad shoulders...  no problem.  Glad you took the time to post.

Why I answered the way I did
Subject: Why I answered the way I did

RE: "She did not ask that.
Why don't you answer simply:
The first option is the right one."

***I believe it's better to explain how a thing is derived rather than to simply give an answer, because that way there's a better chance the person can apply the information to a new situation.

"Furthermore, if you add an
'and', THEN you have to enter a comma"

***No.

***WARNING*** Explanation below -- Not just an "answer"!

If "Explanations" cause you extreme discomfort or confusion, do not read further!

The comma rules are based on the structure of a sentence and word order rather than on specific words, so there is not a rule for "as well as."

For instance, if "as well as" is used for an introductory adverb phrase or clause, there would be a comma after that word group because it is out of normal word order:

'As well as I have played, I still cannot score a par round of golf.'

If the phrase or clause is at the end of a sentence, there is no comma because this is normal word order:

'We wanted to find a good tour to take as well as a nice place to have dinner.'

**
Now, the next time you have a problem with the way I explain something, don't be so snippy. No one who is simply trying to help another person should have to deal with someone who needs an attitude adjustment, but then, I suppose no good deed goes unpunished...Just ask nicely & I will be happy to explain. Or deconstruct, as appropriate.

the answer was lost. The "q" by itself is a dangerous abbrevision. Refer it to your supervisor as apparently the QA person does know this and, if nothing else, for clarification if they want you to use it.
