dilated, dilation and curettage, dilation of the bladder, dilation of the cervical os, etc. Dilatation is the state of being dilated after dilation takes place. I see that they are used interchangeably these days, but this is how I learned to differentiate between the 2 many years ago. An example of the proper way to use dilatation would be, the small bowel obstruction resulted in dilatation of the proximal small bowel. Most times, dilation is what you are looking for.

Has anyone heard of that. She says "a" a lot thoughout her dictations, so she just meant "rested at 9 cm dilation?" That seems to make more sense. I couldn't find anything on "arrested" but wanted to make sure.

not sure what self suture is but usually suture is 2-0, 3-0, etc. with the number "0" not letter "O". Hope that helps.

TM stands for appx 20 or more things, so you cannot guess which one. Also,the same goes for LAM. It stands for seven different things and you cannot guess which one.

I was taught in this situation to leave it as said. My account even specifies in assessment and plan to never abbreviate except in this case when you cannot 100% verify what the doc means if there is more than one meaning to the abbreviation.
