every company QA and/or account will set that rule.
You probably should ask them via email to get it in writing as it has been my experience this will vary from one QA gal to the next.

and google is NOT the authority on when to use which word. You can find errors all over the internet and I don't consider google a research tool unless it takes me to a manufacturer web site so I can find a copyrighted spelling.
A good dictionary and solid reference materials are needed. Additionally, the OP did not say the client wanted it one way or another so your bringing that into the equation makes you look as though you are trying to justify what you do, and I really do not care what you do.
