With all respect to Experienced MT, the example you gave of pexis is a noun.  Therefore, it doesn't really make sense to say that pexed is the past tense of that word.  Pexed would be a back formation from pexis.  The AAMT BOS says to avoid back formations unless they are "acceptable through widespread use."  I'm guessing this is probably one of those more widespread ones but not really sure.  What say you, MTs?
