I've done tons of ortho reports in the past that included references to the patient needing to be on antibiotic coverage if they had any kind of dental work done. Sometimes procedures such as hip replacements are even delayed until a patient can get a dental exam and have any necessary dental work taken care of first.

To be honest, I've never understood the correlation either, but it comes up all the time in orthopedics.
