Wouldn't that be stealing work

Maybe they are running out of work and unable to meet their minimum because YOU felt entitled to extra money - ever think of that?  One reason most employers insist on approved OT is to keep us from screwing each other this way and assuring everyone gets at least their minimum hours!  How thankful are your teammates for your help, I wonder?

Not enough work to go around....Stealing from Peter to pay Paul

    not doing job = stealing
If you are not doing your job and getting paid, how do you figure it is not stealing, or the equivalent????
I was told Escription would not work with Vista. Turned out it wouldn't work with my sm
Office Basic Edition 2003 either, but no one could figure out why, it was supposed to.

There is actually a section on the Dell website that offers Windows XP. I haven't checked it out as I'm not in the market, so I don't know if it costs extra. I have a Dell and it's been fine for me. I hate the ESL tech department, but it seems like most of them have that now.
    that is not stealing lines
if you are scheduled to work in the morning and dont get on until afternoon, the work that you would have done at your scheduled time wasnt done, leaving a higher amount of minutes when you do get on.  It all works out in the end.  If there are 3000 minutes in the a.m. and you type your shift, doing 200 then that leaves 2800 minutes.  If you don't type in the a.m. and there were 3000 minutes, your 200 were not done.
It's not just stealing the computer...sm
They want employees to take the work use only seriously. Some have used company computer to download s/w or visit questionable sites, or allowed children to use it, and this can result in viruses, spyware, adware. In addition, some legitimate s/w (like for keyboards) can cause issues with company s/w and require a lot of time of the tech department or crash the computer entirely.

Makes sense to me, at least.
    *Stealing* clients

You can steal things, but you can't *steal* a sentinent being (client) who chooses to go with you because you offer better service/better price or any combination of the two.  Said client can walk away from you, too, if you don't deliver.  What company does not try to lure clients from a competitor?

If the severance is minimal, you can easily get another job, and you really believe the company would come after you, then maybe foregoing the severance would let you rest easier even if the clause wouldn't stand up in court.  If you really believe the company would come after you, do you want to spend time and money in court, even if you win?

    stealing clients
I partially agree, but when a person uses insider information about a client's setup, preferences, etc. IMO that is stealing. You're using privileged information in an inappropriate way. So strictly speaking, a person hasn't stolen the client, but they stole the information they needed to get the client's business.
No lying, stealing, cheating at all.
And I am entitled to my opinion. I didn't say all MTSOs are ethical in their business operations but most are.

Seriously, if you read over the board, it looks like a few oldies who are bitter or newbies who cannot get their foot in the door. It doesn't sound like professionals with realistic complaints. It sounds like very withdrawn, angry individuals who do not come out of their shell except on anonymous boards. :)

For the MTSOs who are unethical ... I think they should absolutely be shut down.

Still yet, no one forces you to work for any company. It is entirely your choice. So, make a different one, please.

    Be happy.

Stealing FROM, not FOR! whew, i'm already tired this morning!
    Gonna regroup, ha ha
It was referred to as stealing in a conference call by mgrs. sm
Your equation doesn't always prove true if there is little work, if a person's primary account is an overflow account, or if it is the last few days of the pay period.  If people are scrambling to get jobs on their shifts and someone else comes along who doesn't normally work that shift, but is just doing so out of convenience for themselves, they are taking lines from what little jobs there are from the people who abide by the rules and what they had been asked by management.  This is most definitely stealing lines from fellow MLSs. Perhaps you have been fortunate enough to have a primary account that always has heavy volume, and that may account for why you had never been told this by management. But, a good share of accounts aren't like this, and this has repeatedly been addressed by management as a problem issue.  If it wasn't a problem, upper management (Larry) would never have brought it up in conference calls and in email.
    i wouldn't work for them
They started a new program for new grads called Focus in the Future. They have you do live work but will not pay you for that work, claiming it is because they are providing you with valuable training and mentoring. To me, it just sounds like they found a way to get work done for free.
I wouldn't do any more work either.
Sounds like you're not going to get paid so don't waste anymore time with her.
You wouldn't want to work here anyway. NM
    NM
Personally, I wouldn't work for them if *sm*
you do have it correct and they do not pay you for an evaluation period. Any work you do for them at all should be paid for. This company just gives me a bad feeling anyway, based on the posts from when they first opened up and started advertising online for help. At that point they weren't paying more than like 0.06 per line. I think maybe you can still find some information over on MTChat.com about them from that time period. I also remember a few posts on here about NSF checks a while back.

I wouldn't get any work done, but the thought of sm
of a food pedal is great..... Hmm, could make a ton of money.....Where's that patent list???? LOL!!! Nice to have fun on this board once in a while.
Vonage wouldn't work well enough. I'm in MI if that
    helps.
Why wouldn't they? I live in NY and I used to work
for them. Key word is USED to.
Used to work for them, would never again and definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone
    bt
I still wouldn't want to work for a company
who would use a recruiter like that - one who represents many companies and knows little about the company, etc., supposedly. Its more a screener position, which can be good, but it can be marred with personal issues. I was hiring on for a job not too long ago when the recruiter quit mid stream and a new one took her place. I was being considered for a key position in the company, and then all communication ceased. I thought it odd, but knew it was not meant to be. Turns out I got a great job shortly thereafter. I was lucky enough to find out who the new recruiter was, at the company which just vanished mid way thru hiring, and knew immediately it was a person of questionable character whom many of us know from this board, and I know that she recognized my name from these boards, and our personal conversations over the years about how I felt about her banning policies, etc. I also was contacted recently by this same person to go and join her new boards, as she advised me that the horrible previously banned posters would now be allowed to post - of which I had to remind her I was one, and I asked to be removed from her mailing list, which she was the one using from here, but claiming the new board owner would be hijacking. Too much drama! So, this company lost out on a top-notch MT because a brandie new recruiter for multiple companies hopped in mid stream and didn't like me. Again, to me, it spoke volumes that the company would listen to someone with her infamous known reputation, let alone hire her to screen for applications. Since most of the MT industry was banned from her site, that would eliminate nearly the whole profession! And yes, she recruits for multiple companies, none of which I would be interested in working for if they choose her to represent them. It works both ways. This supposedly professional recruiter gets to sit at home on her computer, comparing applicants names with posters from this board, and makes her decisions based on THAT. Not cool. I know of another woman recruiter who was a dollar shy of a Happy Meal. She was a piece of work, too, and if she's floating around, heaven help anyone looking for a job. I was actually just about to take a job a while back with another company when she popped in to say hello, and asked me what my currently salary was. I told her, as she came in under the representation of this company. I told her my salary and she wrote back that I was a liar, nobody at said company made that salary. She said she still had connections at this company, and knew nobody, absolutely nobody made my hourly rate. Well, its a company known for that, paying high, paying low, and that's why I was with them so long, I was making good bucks. I was shocked beyond words, and declined the company's offer after that incident. Again, a loose cannon recruiter is bad for a company's image, and should be. They should have more discretion in hiring for this key position. Oh, yes, and how did I meet this last nightmare recruiter? I had run into her once on these boards and we chatted a few times. About a year later, she was recruiting for 1 of multiple companies, and apparently was attacking many of the applicants, in much the same way as she later did me. There was a page of posts from MTs who were flattened by her behavior, and were posting about it, even giving her name. Many old timer MTs then came on to share about this woman's reputation. I actually defended this person, posting that I had never experienced anything but professionalism in my dealings with her. Well, I went thru the same burn a year or so later. I believe the company back then replaced this recruiter, as they went thru a huge shortage period of MTs. I'm sure she's still lurking out there somewhere, along with the new one, and its just a shame for the companies that they seem to be oblivious to these personalities. I stayed at my job, making the imaginary salary that I could not possibly be making, literally laughing all the way to the bank, as the saying goes. Hang in there. The right recruiter with the right company will come along for you. When all lines up appropriately, that's the job that was meant for you.
I wouldn't advise anyone to work there! It was...sm
sure not my cup of tea. Platform is FN, which I didn't find production oriented, and I wasn't crazy about their accounts, either. We parted after 3 days!
Work here now, wouldn't hire on here now
I work for Spheris now and am doing okay, but I wouldn't hire on here now as I don't think I would get the deal I have now. Also with speech recognition I have to wonder if the workload will be enough for the employees we have now. Most of the good work goes to India and I would never work for another company again that sends work out of the country.

    Insurance is crappy and expensive.

This is a marginal company to work for if you are already here but not something I would sign up for if I were looking for a job now.
If I had my druthers I wouldn't work here
I work for Spheris now, but wouldn't work here if I was looking for a new job. To hire on as a new employee, I'm sure my situation would not be near as good as I have it now, although my situation has deteriorated from what it was. Insurance is awful. VR pay is better than some but not adequate. Workload is barely hanging in there. Working for a company that sends work to India sucks, and I would never again hire on with one that does. As a matter of principle no one should work for a company that offshores, but right now, I'm still able to keep a roof over my kids' heads and feed and clothe them, so I hang in here because I don't think the situation is any better anywhere else, until I can afford to take a drop in pay while I ramp up at a new company.
    I wouldn't work here if I didn't already
Spheris has terrible insurance, inadequate supervisors, and sends all the good accounts to India. If you want crappy accounts and a supervisor that never answers your emails, and don't need insurance, then you might like it here. Speech rec is the norm here now, with very regular transcription which is usually the doctors that can't speak clear enough to do speech rec. I'm still making enough money to survive, and don't want the stress of changing jobs to an unknown situtation or I would be out of here. I doubt they are offering new hires the rate I make, and what I make is not all that great.
    Wouldn't work for a company?
A company calls you and says We are hiring an IC MT and the pay 11 cpl. The only thing is that you have to use one space after your periods. Dang that extra space! Gets me every time. Sorry, I cannot except the position because I am quite fond of that other space and you have no right to try and take it away from me :) In good fun.
How do you put this in AutoCorrect? Wouldn't shorthand work the same way?
    nm
Runing out of work wouldn't be a problem, that's for sure. sm

My primary account is swamped!  I have worked there since October, and I think I've only worked on my secondary accound maybe 4-5 times, and then just for a few hours or so.   I wish the pay was more, of course, but they have a nice incentive tier, and a good benefit package with medical, dental, and vision insurance, and a 401k.

Pay probably averages around 8.5 cpl, 9 cpl if you don't want the bennies.  Incentive tier starts at 13,000, so it is not difficult to achieve.

Hope this helps.  Good luck in your search.

Wouldn't work for them if they were the last company on earth.
Go to their web wite, read the second paragraph. It says:

Creating a new way of getting IT done. Faster, cheaper – and yes, even better.

That tells you what they think of American MTs. Why would any American MT work for them?

Well, it wouldn't work for me - (wrong equipment).
to make hanging look like an accident (for an adult, anyway). Making it appear that it was part of a partial-asphyxiation sex act seems like the only way to do it. Unless, of course, he was messing around with some other person who fled the scene once things went wrong.

    You're right, though... very sad.
Doesn't matter how nice they are, I wouldn't work

the MTSO is excellent, very professional and caring. Flexibility and pay is always on time. If you have any questions, please email me directly.
Ran out of work, they wouldn't return email or call...see msg
They wouldn't contact me back or answer my calls. Four days later they finally got back with me to tell me to be patient. I specifically asked when I took the position if running out of work was ever a problem.
I wish people wouldn't be so encouraging. Then maybe we wouldn't constantly run

No, I wouldn't go back. I lost too much money there ALWAYS running out of work (sm)
There were days at MQ I would type 2 reports during my shift, and I had a LOT of accounts in my pool!  A friend of mine who started at the same time I did with MQ is still there and she is always out of work. I just can't take the chance.
You've got to be kidding! It makes a HUGE difference. I sure wouldn't want to work with

I wouldn't quit a decent company for seasonal low work volume.
I'd hang around and see what the New Year brings. I wouldn't say that if you were working for MQ, but I would for a company with a decent reputation. If it is still slow in January, I'd talk to my supervisor and find out what her take is on the situation.
But a 'Thanks for Your Hard Work' email wouldn't cost them a penny :-(
It's not even about a gift, really. It's just more about the lack of acknowledgement in general.

I'm sure a lot of MTs, not just MDI people, are feeling a bit disillusioned and unappreciated this week.

At my company I'd ask for $18; probably wouldn't get it, but I wouldn't go lower. nm

    I wouldn't do it again...
I was trained on one portion of an account (4 new hospitals they got), and it was GREAT! I loved it, told my husband I was SO happy working with them. Then, training ended ... I got switched to the hospital I was hired for (although no one told me that during training), and OMG - it's AWFUL. I can't make a dime. It's either all ESLs that I absolutely cannot understand (and I've been doing ESLs for a long time), or English-speaking guys that are terrible. My rate has gone down tremendously. And, if you have tech problems - you have to e-mail tech support and wait for them to respond. So, like this weekend, I have tech problems and am sitting here with my thumb up my nose waiting for a dopey teckie to get on my problem. I begged them, in an e-mail of course, to CALL me so we could resolve the problem and I could get back to work. Still waiting for that phone call, and it's been since yesterday evening. So, no $$$. About a month ago, I would have told you - GREAT place to work. Right now, I'd have to tell you to RUN AWAY!
    I wouldn't do it

    Diddles:

To me these things are a big red flag about a company. My reaction would be that they are very controlling and if they are trying to control your speech on the Internet there will be many worse things to come.

I believe a lot of these companies make you jump through hoops, i.e., testing, paper work, etc. before they give you any answers about specifics just so you WILL feel like you have already invested a lot in time and emotion and will not turn back, which is another very good reason to not allow them to silence us on the Internet.  There is very valid information to be shared about companies which is neither bashing nor praising but just that - information allowing us to make a decision about whether a company would be a good fit for us or not - BEFORE doing all the testing.

You must have some doubt in your mind about this or you would not be here asking the question. Go with your gut instinct. There are many good companies out there who do not impose these types of restrictions.

LOL - wouldn't last a day at TSI.. is that
supposed to be a compliment? LOL....
    I wouldn't say that...sm
most companies do not say how much they pay because anyone that was any good would not even test then. They also do not base pay on how well you do on the test. You could ace it and still get offered 7 cpl because that is what they start at, no matter how much experience and knowledge you have. Raises are also few and far between. jmo
    I wouldn't
It took 7 weeks of my waiting around to get work and then they finally got me on an account and there was no work. One problem after another. Passed between departments, no one ever giving the complete story.

Sad way to run a business in my opinion.
    I wouldn't even consider it!
There are MUCH better companies out there...and ones that pay every 2 weeks as opposed to monthly! I would NEVER take a job that paid only once a month!
...nm up there. Pay wouldn't go over 9 cpl not even with

    I wouldn't...
I am an experienced MT with 30+ years of experience. I just left this company. First of all, they outsource ALL of the good job types/dictators to India. Secondly, whatever the Indians can't do, they send to ASR. If you are happy to be relegated to an ASR Editor making peanuts, or transcribing the really, really bottom of the barrel reports, then go for it. If you are looking for respect, honest and open communication, plus decent pay, I wouldn't touch this with a 10-foot pole. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to Precyse.
    you wouldn't know...
you are not morbidly obese. Until you have lived a day in my shoes, save your opinions for someone who cares.

I would politely tell that recruiter where he could put his job and that would be where the sun doesn't shine! This should tell you what kind of integrity this company has. Congratulations to you for doing the right thing and giving appropriate notice.

Me too, and wouldn't want to be anywhere else! sm
I can't believe how many MTs on this board are so miserable and getting SO ripped off! Direct Deposit is always on time for us at Webmedx, pay rate fair, good incentive plan. And I have plenty of work (most of the time, you have to admit that everyone runs out occasionally).
Why wouldn't you ask up sm
front in order to avoid wasting yours or their time what the pay scale was, or at least ballpark.  The time allotted doesn't sound unreasonable to complete the test.  If you bring experience and skill it's do-able.  Someone who cannot complete in that time may not be the best match.  Definitely ask up front next time about pay scale and if it's in line with your expectations.  If not, you thank them anyway, but no thanks and move on.
