When I asked why it was ok for him to pick out a truck and a boat without me (sm)
he blamed it on the fact that I had bought the kids a $300 plastic pool last summer. He used that same excuse again about the shed. "you picked out a pool!" How dare I pick out anything?
Is the truck necessary for his job?? If not,
then I would think about selling it and getting something a little more reasonable in the line of a car payment. If it is for work, then why can't he deduct a portion of the cost?
You can take the truck to get tires yourself you know - sm
so from a safety standpoint I would just go and do it since you say you have the money. Tell him it would not pass inspection so you had to get new tires, or a cop stopped you and gave you a warning, whatever it takes. I did that last year, my DH was not too pleased as he wants me to get rid of my truck and I don't want car payments again and it runs great so I just maintain it as necessary and don't tell him basically. I have a $600 repair I need done; will he know about it, NO. Granted I am going to have it done for about $300- getting a used part, then having a neighbor put it in because my DH is too lazy to work on the truck other than to change the oil. I want it to run for at least 2 more years (207K miles)--250 is our goal mark before we get a new/used truck; unless I win the lottery before then. So take matters into your own hands, try to make more money, and if you ever get serious about divorce then consult a lawyer and find out your rights- you are entitled to half the house equity (or sale profits); half any retirement fund from the point you married, etc., child support, 3 kids that is easily $800 a month; spousal support if you have been married for some time (I think usually 10 years, but I am sure every circumstance is different). So don't martyr yourself. Take control.
Ditto......our truck tag is $600....
When we lived in Florida, I paid $60 for a tag on a brand new car, and we are paying $600 for a truck about 3 years old now. One county over it is much cheaper. This county is ripping people off. Even property taxes are ridiculous here.
It's a construction truck and
yes, necessary for his job. He helps to build highways.
You'd have loved the ice cream truck
that used to play Christmas tunes all summer. I take it he's not from around here, LOL.

He finally changed the tune - to LA Cucaracha! I take it he doesn't speak Spanish if he thinks that song is going to sell ice cream! Ha!
My husband is a truck driver too. . .
We got married when he was in his early 30s, so he had a hard time changing his lifestyle. He spent all of his free time with his single friend. I never, ever worried about the two of them going to bars or anything. Their idea of a good time was having a couple beers and talking about tractors. His friend is a farmer, so he has a lot of free time in the winter. Sometimes I think my husband felt bad because they spent so much time together before I came along and then all of the sudden, things changed. His friend is in his late 30s and had never been married or had kids. After I had been dating my husband for about a year, his friend went to an online dating service and found a girlfriend. He was very shy, so that was a big deal! That was 3 years ago, and they are engaged now. My husband doesn't see him so much now, but they talk daily on the phone. We also moved about 30 minutes away. We have neighbors that he likes to spend time with, but he tries to keep it to just the weekend. Also, my husband gets very stressed driving in the winter and needs to relax once in a while. Does your husband's friend have a girlfriend? If he doesn't, maybe you could introduce him to some of your girl friends. He might just be lonely. I know it's hard for you to be sitting home when your husband is hanging out with his friend. I told my husband once that I felt like a single mom! I think you do need to let your husband know how you feel. Good luck to you!
My neighbor is addicted to QVC. The UPS truck
every single day. Her apartment is just as small as mine, and she doesn't make that much more money than I do. I've looked at QVC, and the stuff on it is nice, but expensive! I don't know where she's putting it all. Sometimes she over-buys, and ends up giving some really nice things to me because she has no room. Of course I appreciate the gifts, but I do worry about her sometimes. She's told me her credit card debt is pretty high, too. (She should know better - she works for a bank!)
Maybe with a pair of plyers and a pick-up truck?

Here is another truck driver's wife's view
My husband was older than yours when he (and I) married. He was 49, first marriage. We spend a tremendous amount of time together, he even has his computer setup in my workroom. When he wants downtime, he has his own room for his guitar strumming and then a real stay-around type person. I love the time we are together so don’t know what to say to the original poster but not much of a marriage there if no time left over for wife.
closing a pool Help!
I just purchased a home with an above ground pool and have no clue as to how to close it for the season.  First of all, the water is a  yucky green because I didn't add shock (I think?).  Is that what I need to do?
You should go to the pool store SM

We have lived in a house with a pool for about 10 years, in the ground not above.  If you take a sample of your water to the pool store, they will test your water for free.  They will tell you exactly what chemicals you need and exactly how to close your pool.  If you close it correctly, opening in the spring will be a breeze.  If you don't, it will be a nightmare.

Pool heaters
Google for In The Swim.  They have AGP heaters.  They even have those "floating solar" ones, but your pool is maybe too large for that.  I think the cost is modest to run the heaters and certainly worth the cost if you want to swim.  It is cold here too and we count the days until it becomes unfrozen, which is much too late for me!
Are you 2 the last to pool your money, probably so
Hubby and I both signed onto each other's accounts, but he has his bills he pays each month and I have others. When large bills come, we half those so it works well for us both. I do not balance my checkbook, though, and my daughter who is accountant just grits her teeth but it works for me. One good thing I found out, whenwe did our taxes the person told me next year just to send in about $2500 and that should be fine with out deductions and what hubby pays in. Sounds good to me! I have traveling on my mind. I would hate and I mean hate to let hubby know just how much I do spend.
Pool chlorine
We've always used chlorine and never had any problems. We've had our pool for ten years. The kids have already been in ours three times so far. A record for our area. Usually it's not warm enough to swim until sometime in June.
I cried when they put that woman in the truck and said she died 2 days later

At my apt. we have a robot that cleans the pool ! (nm)
..
Does anyone have any experience with pool heaters? sm
We put in a 24 foot round above ground pool last spring, but didnt use it much until towards the end of summer because the water was to darn cold! We have a solar cover, but it does not help much on the cooler nights. We live in NE Ohio. I am looking into getting some kind of heater to heat up the water so we can start swimming in June when we get it opened up. I was thinking of an electric heater but dont want to run up the electric bill to much.  Any suggestions or ideas?? Thanks!
Easter. The pool or the beach?
x
Geez, it's gotten HOT today anybody have a pool???
Well, we just got back from getting pool supplies.  This is our third summer, we used Baquacil the first 2 years, dh said we were switching to chlorine this year because it is so much cheaper!  Anybody done this before, I wanted to keep the Baquacil because of the grandbabies, but was just wondering about the switching.. any & all info appreciated.. tia.. gina
1 In 5 Adults Uses Pool As Toilet
Officials: Swallowing Urine-Contaminated Water Isn't Harmful

PHOENIX -- A new study by the Water Quality and Health Council found that nearly one in five adults admits to urinating in a swimming pool instead of using the toilet.

Eight in 10 adults are convinced their fellow swimmers are guilty of such a crime, the study said.

Nevertheless, health officials insist that swimming in and even swallowing urine-contaminated water isn't harmful to someone's health.

"Urine in itself has been purified through a whole variety of bodily processes so that it's removed a lot of the contaminants in it," said Don Herrington from the Arizona Health Department.

Swimmers should be more concerned about swallowing parasites than swallowing urine, officials said.

Last summer, dozens of swimmers in the Phoenix area got sick from pool water, forcing the closure of all 29 Phoenix city pools.

The parasite which caused the illnesses, Cryptosporidium, comes from diarrhea.

Phoenix Parks and Recreation spokeswoman Amy Blakeney urged sick swimmers to stay out of the pool.

"People who are sick need to stay home and remain at home for 14 days after they're symptom-free, especially if they have diarrhea," Blakeney said.

Though city pools electronically monitor chlorine levels, the city of Phoenix has begun to require swimmers to shower before they jump in the pool as an extra precaution.

"Taking a shower allows those materials to rinse off and go down as sewage, and then gets a clean body into the pool water, which is what we all want," Blakeney said.

Fibromyalgia versus the above MS
I know mine not as bad and really feel for the MS sufferer. I do not eat much sugar on a day to day basis, half teaspoon with first cup of coffee to get me started but not a real big protein eater either. I do not want to take a lot of ibuprofen if I can help although I did take 3 tablets upon waking this morning because of the sore all over feeling. Ibuprofen is really hard on your kidneys. I had pasta today that hubby fixed but will try on cutting back on the "whites." Is this something you heard or just something you tried? I am open to all suggestions what others have done to help their fibro. Again, thanks!
spanking versus ISS

Here is a quick question for all of you that think that the spanking from the school is okay and before any of you make any snap judgements, I was spanked as a child and when my children were smaller, they too were spanked(BY THEIR PARENTS)....Do you all realize that this school that uses these "swats" as punishment, would be on the phone immediately if they saw you or found out that you "swatted" that same child as punishment for deeds done wrong at home? Since nowadays they want to tell you what you can and cannot do as a parent to acutally parent your child( and then of course complain about said kids nowadays), that by alloing them to do something to your child that they would gladly report you for is quite ridiculous.

How long is this ISS.  For five tardies..it sure as heck shouldn't be a whole day or even a half day..it should be something realistic.  Yes, I do know what it is like to have to deal with school principals who are jerks, just remember that this is your child and not theirs and that it is your job to look out for them.

If you really feel that just to get this over with right now, you want to let them swat her, that is your choice but since she is so obviously not interested in ISS, I would definitely make sure that she and the school knows that this is a one time pass and yes, I too would either make her do some work around the house or take something away if only for the hassle.

Btw, five tardies in 4 or 5 months is really not that terrible IMO.  That is about one a month.  My goodness, we all assumed it was cause she talks anyone think that maybe the girl had to use the bathroom during her time of the month.  I would also find out when she was tardy and how tardy.  My son was given a tardy cause the bus was late getting him to school and I called and let them know that that is not acceptable in my book.  They had given several kids on his bus tardies and after several phone calls and a check with the bus company, the tardies were removed.  Yes, if my son had been chatting or something,  I would not have bothered to call, I would have just remind him that tardiness of his own making is not acceptable.

Best of luck.

LG versus Motorola

If you had a choice between a Motorola cell phone or LG cell phone, which brand would you choose?  I had an LG and a Motorola several years ago and I really liked them both.  Everyone seems to prefer Motorola, although I hear a lot of complaints about battery life, etc.  I only renew my contract every couple of years so I need to make sure I get one I really like.  The one I have now is Samsung and I can't wait to trade it out.  The Motorola Razr V9m seems nice, but expensive, even with rebates and discounts.  If I know I'll like it, I wouldn't mind so much.  Everyone used to rave about the Razr phones and I know one of them has been discontinued now so I have to wonder how great they really were.

Thanks!!!

Vista versus XP

Hi,

I am an MT looking to purchase a new computer, and it seems like unless you special order all the computers have Vista on them.  How is Vista compared to XP?  The companies I work for do support Vista, but I have heard more negative comments about Vista as opposed to good from people I know who use Vista who are not MTs.  I am hoping that this will be a smooth transition for me  as I am not that computer savvy.

Thanks!

We do use our bleach for our pool instead of chlorine (cheaper)...
but never knew about peroxide being so useful! I have one bottle for cuts and scrapes for the kids but will have to get more now and put it in a spray bottle! Thanks!
Local pool place for sure. Or even have a service do it the first

a verb (versus a noun).............nm

pleasure versus happiness
Pleasure pertains to the senses.  For instance, it is pleasurable to eat something you like.  Happiness is a state of being which may or may not involve the senses, as in desires fulfilled.  For example, it was a pleasure to eat the chocolate cake.  I'd be happy if I could have the pleasure of doing it every day.

condos versus hotel
Hi, the only tip I really have is check out the rates of the condos on the beach for weekly rentals.
I know they are probably high for summer time, but they offer full kitchens and more amenities than hotels usually... and you can save a lot of money by making your own meals instead of eating out all the time. The end of the summer we got a really good rate at Emerald Isle in North Carolina... I know that's far from you, I'm not sure if FL is as cheap... but you could look at Myrtle Beach too. Just think you're going to be paying probably at least 100.00 a night in a hotel... depending on how many nights you are staying you may just want to look into the condo idea, and if you need any help once you figure out where you want to go I'd be happy to i LOVE doing that kinda stuff :) have fun and good idea to start saving early
Cable tv versus dish

Can anybody give me their experiences with cable televison or dish, specifically Dish Network or DirectTV?

I am considering getting one of these but don't know which one to go with.  Thank you!

Guns versus doctors

Doctors

   (A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.

   (B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.

   (C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services

Now think about this:

Guns

  (A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. (Yes, that's 80 million)

  (B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.

  (C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner .000188.

Statistics courtesy of FBI

So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!

Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!

Clothesline versus dryer -- sm

Do you really save that much on the electric bill by hanging out your clothes?

DH doesn't think so, but I'm inclined to disagree with him.  If you do save on your electric bill, how much?

she could have put big ticket items on there in hopes some would pool their resources together. sm
that's how my family does it. we will have several go in together to get an important big item. also, i think when doing registeries a lot of people home and kinda like a shopping spree. they know they will or will not get items, but what's the hurt to put the items on there just in case.
DE is sold in swimming pool stores to use in DE filters. It's not

Hmm, hard water versus soft
Well might have thought about that but this was noticed as soon as the tile installed and has never been mopped so nothing like that. Heavens only knows where these little spots came from but definitely not water route.
Skinny versus Plump - who is happier?

Well I reckon this will start some fires...Hope I don't get burned.

In your experience, ladies and gentlemen, who is happier?  Skinny people who are afraid of a calorie/carb/fat gram?  Or plump, curvy individuals?

Having been skinny once upon a time and now having more curves than a country mountain road, I have to say I like myself so much better now that I weigh more.  It has been an experience, I tell you that much.

So what do you all think?

tubes tied versus Essure?
Anyone have either of these procedures done?  My husband was supposed to have a vasectomy before my IUD  "expired", that was 4 3/4 years ago and I have two more months until I have to have my IUD out.  I want something permanent and was going to get my tubes tied/cut but then I found out about the Essure procedure.  I'm still leaning towards the tubal but just wondering if anyone out there has any opinions.  Thanks so much!
Billy Mays versus the Shamwow guy.

Is it just me or how many others out their would like to throttle Billy Mays.  I am soooooo sick of him.  He's loud, obnoxious, and I'm getting tired of him thrusting his arms out in front every other second.  And please someone tell him to stop using the grecian formula.  It looks very unnatural.  I will never ever buy a product he advertises.

The shamwow guy though.  Now he's very enjoyable to watch and I will probably buy anything he advertises.  Just a nice switch from watching that obnoxious a$$ BM (gee his initials match what I want to have every time I see him).

Just wondered if anyone out there is as irked as me at Mr. Billy Mays.

I was in the same boat 20 yrs ago

It was damned if you do, damned if you don't.  Nerves were on edge all the time. I really wish you the best.

Here's what I did: I took our two kids and got OUT before he killed all of us. I have never looked back, never regretted having to work two and three jobs to support us.  It wasn't easy, we struggled, but we were SO much happier not having to tippy-toe around him anymore.

Kids are grown now. My son sees his dad, still tries to please him, very sad. Daughter has NOTHING to do with him and won't let her daughter see him.

Sorry didn't mean to turn this into a rant or a book, it just struck a chord with me.

Not saying that's what you should do at all, just that's what I did. I will say a prayer for you all. And for those of us who have survived it. God help us.

In the same boat.....
My son got his learners in June and so far, seems responsible when it comes to driving. He doesn't like a lot of talking and no radio on. (Of course, we know teens change overnight) I am just going to let him have a learners for awhile because my insurance company doesn't charge if he has a learners. Maybe his senior year, we will allow him to start driving some and put him on insurance. But I have to agree with the other poster, 15 is very young, even though there are responsible kids out there. It is the other drivers on the road we worry about. We were driving the other day and someone pulled right out in front of my son!! I was so mad!! Good luck!!
I am in the same boat.
I saw my high school sweetheart after 20 some years. The sparks just flew again. It was a wonderful moment. We are both married with 2 children. I live out of state luckily. We are both in not so great marriages, but are staying with our spouses for the kids sake. He said he would wait for me, so who knows, maybe we will be together again some day. I really hope so.
In the same boat
This has happened to me for 7 years now. Even though we are not young, we are not ready for no intimacy! He does not seem interested in anything, just cuddling and kissing, nothing else. I get so frustrated, and it does hurt my feelings. When you talk to him about this he gets furious.
in the same boat...

I am pretty much in the same situation and can relate to what you are going through.  My problems with debt started because I decided to quit a job making 45,000/yr to do medical transcription in which I am lucky if I make 20,000/yr.  I could not keep up with my own personal bills and instead of confiding in my husband, I put bills on my credit cards and every payperiod swore to myself that my paycheck would increase, but easier said than done since I do VR and the pay stinks.  My husband thinks MTing is ridiculous for the pay and hard work we do.  I was insisting upon staying with it and had too much pride to let him know I could not pay my own personal bills.  When I did finally tell him he was upset that I would put myself in debt, knowing that as a couple, our debts affect each other.  I am now seeking help from CCCS, a counseling service that has a very good reputation.  Just make sure you pick a reputable, nonprofit agency, and they will put you on the right track back to financial stability.  Needless to say, I am going back to the work I used to do and doing MTing on the side.

Best of luck to you!

Same boat
I am in the same boat you are in.  I will not be putting up Christmas lights either.  I love decorating my house with Christmas lights, but not this year.
Same boat here.
DH doesn't like pumpkin either so unless I make it to take to someone else's house, I won't get any. I can't bear a whole pie going to waste and I can't bear a whole pie going on my hips! LOL
boat next to you
I can sympathize with you. Have had problems with parotids for several years and it is terrible. No tumor was seen, but have passed a stone after a sialodochoplasty done at St. Louis. Make sure you have absolutely the best surgeon for this type of thing. Makes all the difference. Will be praying for you also. Keep us informed please.
