I think you have the right procedure;

it's just that the results vary from patient to patient.  My boss had an ablation, but after just a few months had to have a hysterectomy anyway; it didn't help at all.  Others, like the person you mentioned, have great success.  I think it's worth it to try an ablation to begin with, if you could be one of the lucky ones.  Good luck!

Want to know more about your procedure
I, like so many others, am overweight and would love to be able to take it off. I have some feet issues so the part about walking is totally out for me other than what is necessary. What part of the country are you in, the cost, does insurance cover, time of hospital stay, recovery period and I know about possible complications from gastric bypass, but what about on your end? Thanks for any information.
NovaSure Procedure
I had the NovaSure procedure in February of 2007.  It was the best decision of my life!!  I was extremely anemic and was on IV iron supplementation for several years before I went searching for an OB/GYN for options for my heavy cycle.  I was introduced to this procedure by my OB/GYN and did lots of research online.  Basically, it is a minimally invasive endometrial ablation that burns the lining of the uterus to destroy the endometrium.  The procedure only lasts a few minutes, but you are put under general anesthesia.  My doctor told me it should last approximately 5 years, maybe longer (no guarantees).  She told me some patients have much lighter cycles and some have no cycles afterward.  I was a lucky one....I have had no cycle since I recovered from my procedure, and also no more IV iron supplementation.  This has been great!!!!
She is going to have the procedure performed
on a Thursday by the doctor that, we have been told, invented it. Then the next day she is going to have the plastic surgery done to repair the hole. You waited a week for results...is this something we should be looking into? Still haven't googled it yet. Asked the question yesterday and just got back on the computer today and started reading the answers. Thanks for the info!
I'd certainly wanna see the procedure note
They should have some documentation of what happened. If not, I'd REALLY wanna know exactly what was so minor they'd not document it, but left marks on your body!
It is a MEDICAL procedure. I suppose
spaying is mutilation to you too, right? I don't know if vets tell people....but they remove their ovaries for that. The horror!

If you don't want it done to your cat, don't do it, but leave others alone that need/want to have this done!
LEEP procedure, google it
NM
Go to their web site and follow their procedure - sm
they have it all there how to report problems, etc.
Anyone familar with Mohr procedure?

My MIL is having this procedure (not exactly sure about the spelling) done to remove a skin cancer.  It is supposed to have a 99% rate of the cancer not returning.  Just wondering if anyone has any info on this.

More info in Mohs procedure.
The reports I edit, the dr. does the procedure, inks and maps specimen for frozen section and sents to path with pt still on table.  Based on path results, procedure either done or excise more tissue from area that still shows cancer cells.  Sometimes takes 2-3 more specimens. When procedure done, that dr either does repair or if wound too big, a plastic surgeon is scheduled to do repair same day or day or 2 later.
It's cruel. It's a very painful procedure for the cat - sm
as their paws are very sensitive. They don't just remove the claw - they remove the entire terminal phalanx. They lose their first line of defense against attack, or their ability to climb, though they can still jump.

It can also lead to litter box problems due to sore feet, and other behavioral problems.

Instead, buy a little animal toenail-clipper and clip the nails every few weeks. Cheaper, and MUCH more humane.

If I cared about the chair, I'd just put a cover over it for everyday use, so it'll be nice for company. But my cat's health & well-being is worth more than any piece of furniture.
I know someone who had a procedure because it became extremely painful -nm
:)
Period pain after LEEP procedure
I had LEEP for cervical cancer a few years back.  Cancer is gone now, but I have horrible periods.  Am I alone?  Does anyone else suffer since LEEP surgery?  I also have fibromyalgia which only adds to the discomfort.
I agree with you on declawing - it's a painful procedure -sm
and can lead to other behavioral problems. I think the scratching has less to do with the claws than their instinct to scratch. One of my cats is a front-declaw (she came that way, unfortunately) and I feel SO sorry for her. She gets so frustrated when she can't pick anything up with her front paws. She still 'scratches', too, but always uses the scratching post. They do seem to prefer that to anything. My other cat sometimes uses the rug, but it seems to be more as a precursor to a game of chase between them. I trim my clawed cat's nails frequently. The only furniture she tries to scratch on is the bedpost, which is sort of a wicker-type material I got at Ikea. But she does it rarely, and if I really cared about it, I'd protect it somehow.

You might be able to protect the furniture, at the same time enhancing the look, by getting several throws to put over vulnerable areas. Or, if it really only matters if they look good for company, I'd cover the entire piece. That way you wouldn't have to vacuum cat hair, either.

Finally, another option is a product called 'Soft Paws' - a plastic 'fake nail', basically, that is glued on over the existing claw. Kind of a pain to apply, and they do shed off when the outer nail sheds. But they look cute, come in lots of pretty colors (including clear), and they can save the furniture without traumatizing the cat.
dental procedure: root planing
dentist says i need this because of moderate periodontal disease.  $200 a quadrant x4 = $800 for what sounds like a horrible, bloody procedure.  they say they only do two quadrants at a time.  does anyone know anything about this, had it done?  please let me know what to expect.... thanxabuncha
When you say under the skin?
Do you mean you take off the skin, put the mixture, and then replace the skin?  Like I said, I'm an newbie with turkeys, so I have to clarify.  thx so much!
Dry skin
I have that problem with many products too and my skin isn't dry to begin with but rather oily. Sometimes I am not sure which problem is more embarrasing, the scaly dry skin or the acne.

I haven't had that problem with product though, even when I use it multiple days in a row.
SKIN
Try the "cracked heel" cream made for your feet. I've tried almost every cream made. Also put a finger cot (you, know they look like mini-condoms) from the drugstore over a Band-Aid over the cream. Use the Band-Aids that are made for fingertips and are stretchy and flexible. Put oodles of cream on when you go to bed. Just grease, grease, grease as much as you can. Protect the split as much as possible. If all else fails, try a regular medical finger splint. Idea is to grease and protect so it will heal - kind of hard to do when you use it to make a living, I know! I live in Maine and it happens to me with our low temps, and these all help. Good luck. Rosie

I would second the 2nd skin. (s/m)
I have lots of friends who do serious road-skating: Downhill runs in the middle of the night, inline marathon races, etc. A bad 'road rash' is basically a burn, (except with some asphalt and rocks 'n' stuff in it!). Most of them swear by 2nd Skin. Allowing it to dry out and scab not only makes it much more painful, but it seems to heal with more of a scar. One time I got a knee & elbow rash at the same time, and allowed the knee to scab, and kept the elbow moistened and covered with a nonstick telfa pad and wrapped that with gauze. It not only healed faster than the knee, but the scar is barely visible. I thought that was the best I could do, but my Xtreme skater friends tipped me off about 2nd Skin. I plan to get some and keep it on hand for next time. There is ALWAYS a 'next time'!
Dry skin on my furkids
I took my big furboy to get his coat taken care of and was told he has dry skin and I should try some olive oil in the food. I used about half teaspoon between the 2 small cans that I give my kids and they are not just liking that. The lady had said I could possibly use a vitamin E on his skin but tried the olive oil first. Anyone with any similar problems and ideas? Thanks
RoC skin care
Anyone use RoC skin care?  If so, did it burn when you first began using it.  It does say that it may burn a bit when first starting out, so I only use it qod, but geeze, my face is warm feeling.  Think maybe it's partly my imagination, but just wondering if anyone else experienced this and if so, how long it lasted.  Thanks y'all!
Since when does humidity cut down on the dry skin?
Our humidity here in southern Georgia runs very, very high and I have to use special soap on my face especially because if not I dry out so badly, like flaking skin on eyelids, face, around the nose area. I myself just don't know how it should or does help.
I use it for extremely dry skin -
have a spray of it that I use on my arms legs, feet right after a shower when still a little damp, and I love it. It helps more than several lotions.

Needing help with this dry skin...

New Cancer Vac.
Frankly it scars me and I have had cervical cancer myself.  I work part-time on a onocolgy account and they say it "may" prevent cervical cancer.  You still have to screen for this type of cancer and if you screen every year it would be caught early and can be cured -- as was in my case.  We don't know what the long-term effects are.  What if this drug would make your child/grandchild not able to have a child of her own?  There could be and are some side-effects.  To me the side-effects sound worse than maybe getting the cancer.  I had to have LEEP surgery and go for screening every 4 months for the following year.  If the shot had been available for me in my younger years, I still would not take it evening knowing that cancer was in my future.  A lot of times these new drugs are worse than what they are supposed to cure/prevent.
Cancer
I had a close relative go through this and I also did work for an oncology doctor for a few months.  I would not do the surgery.  That is my personal opinion.  It is major surgery and you don't just bounce back like nothing took place.  It is a well-known fact in my state that doctors operate just for the $$$$.  I know this is not the case with most, but there are some doctors out there just to make as much $$$$ as they can.  My relative was told to have the surgery or die.  She didn't have the surgery, went to another doctor who agreed she did the right thing. What cancer she did have was gone.  It has been years and she is healthy.  Why be cut up for something that may or may not happen?  To each his own, but I would not jump into this without a ton of thought.  I wish you good health.  I am also a cancer survivor -- cervical.  No more surgeries for me.  Again there was a doctor only out for money and I looked for another opinion.  I had LEEP the cancer is gone and has been gone for almost 5 years.  Did you know that if it doesn't cancer does not return in 3-5 years it most likely will not return at all?  Wait and see.  I did and I am glad I did.
HELP!! CANCER

Hi,

My uncle has Ductal Eccrine Adeno Carcinoma.  The Doctor's say they do not know much about it and do not know how to treat it.  Does anyone know of anyone who has it ( it is rare) and any info. you can give on the subject will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

MT

I had a friend who had skin reduction
for her arms and the so-called plastic surgeon measured one arm and took the same amount out for both arms. This left a gaping wound that the dodo couldn't close. Mind you the incision was the length of her upper arm. Grrrrr.
That's what I found. Not for older skin.

Put on some thick skin....my gosh,
everyone is so touchy here lately....my opinion is allowed and it does not have to agree with yours! We still can have our own opinions in this country, can't we?
My grandmother used olive oil for everything, especially for her skin
and when she wanted to give herself a facial, she would combine oatmeal and egg whites - i remember how funny she used to look doing that but that woman had the most beautiful skin.  For conditioning her hair, she used mayonnaise that she made herself and to protect her hair during the winter months she used avocado and olive oil - after washing her hair she would as she said ' scoop to goop' onto her hair, wrap it with a warm towel for ten minutes and rinse it out thoroughly.  She never ever used soap on her face - she used to tell me and my sisters (there are five of us) that soap is the worst thing for a woman's skin...to clean her face she used cold cream (Jergen's and some other kind I can't recall now) but it worked.  As an astringent she used witch hazel with a bit of tea tree oil and for scars which was got a lot being little, after they healed over really well she would have us rub a lemon rind with a teeny bit of lemon on it over our skin - it does fade small scars.  I tell you, stuff that grams used worked before all of this fancy schmancy manfactured stuff; and I still use a lot of her ideas to this day..
Dead skin floating around.
I thought about that last night as I was sitting at a restaurant. The light was shining through the window just right and I could see all sorts of dust particles in the air. To think that is settling on my food. Kinda gross.
Cancer vaccine
I do NOT agree with this either. I lost a daughter to cancer. One thing I learned while she was being treated was that the side effects of the chemo and radiation were cancer. I do not agree with this. This vaccine has not been around long enough to just start making it mandatory and I for one do not like the government making medical decisions for me.
New Cancer Shot
I saw it on the evening news here in PA. Unfortunately, it is for real. There are two ways parents can opt out, but they have to jump through hoops to do it.
Cancer injection
But this particular injection only protects the cancer which supposedly comes from a virus. It does not protect from all cervical cancer. It does not protect from the cervical cancer not attributed to the STD. You are correct, not all cancer comes from having sex, but this injection only protects from the kind that does and even that is a debate.
Breast Cancer
I was diagnosed with breast cancer on Thurs. and will have a lumpectomy this week followed by six weeks of radiation therapy.  Are there any ladies who have been through this and can you tell me how soon you were able to get back to work and did it affect your ablility to work and focus.  My brain won't work and my feelings are all over the map.   I'm an independent contractor with my own clients. Thanks for any help or advice. PinkLady
Breast Cancer

Thanks for you kind response.  I will get the book today.  I don't know what happened to the rest of the responses.  I emailed the moderator to ask where they went, as I would like to reread them.  My head is spinning, but putting one foot in front of the other is all I can do, plus yesterday I used the push mower to mow about an acre of my 5 acres out back.  That did wonders for my anxiety.  Didn't do much for the owie where I had the biopsy, but at this point, that bruise doesn't matter too much.  Blessings to you for your care and concern.

Breast Cancer
Gosh - Sometimes it just seems so overwhelming.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  The waiting can make you CRAZY.  Please let me know your results and how you're holding up.  What part of the country are you in?  I'm in Virginia, south of Roanoke.
Breast Cancer
I know exactly how you feel. I was diagnosed with an occult breast cancer 13 years ago. I did not have a lumpectomy but I did chemo and radiation afterwards. The radiation was a breeze. I didn't find that I had any symptoms from the radiation. I wish you the best of luck. I did have prophylactic bilateral mastectomies 7 years later and for me, it was the best thing I ever did. That relieved a lot of the anxieties. Once you are done with all of the treatment and they say that you can just follow up at certain intervals you'll feel much better and relieved. Try to think about that part of it.
What are we doing for men with breast cancer?

Don't know about cancer or anything, but it does make me

esophageal cancer

Does anyone have any experience with family/friends and esophageal cancer?  I want the good, the bad and the ugly.  My DH was dx'd last week and given a very poor prognosis.  I would like some idea of how others have coped and what to expect.  Thanks in advance.

I feel the same as you with cancer or other

Also, I really don't think there are "huge pot heads" out there robbing banks for their next J to roll.

I'm for legalizing it for everyone (drinking age of course).  Why not?  Booze is allowed and drunk drivers kill innocent people every day.  There are crosses along the road in my state to prove it.  I say legalize it and save the jail for the real criminals.

I'm not into a pickled liver, so I stay away from the booze.  But definitely decriminilizing is better than jamming the jails up and using our taxes to pay for 3 hots and a cot for a pothead...

I had a problem with severe dry skin patches also....

I found this Super E Natural vitamin E ointment for $5.00 at my local drug store and it went away almost immediately.  Hope you find something that helps!

Does Elidel work on very dry skin on the face?
An
I am nearly as bad as he sounds as far as having highly sensitive skin -
I get a red, itchy welt if a mosquito even lands on me. I have also been bitten by horseflies. My doc has recommended just Benadryl lotion on the offending bite and then 2 of the pills. I also put ice on my skin to help with the swelling and itching. You might try this before you take him in. Best of luck. :-)
removing hair color from skin
Believe it or not, a hairdresser I went to used either some sort of burning chemical OR a paste of ashes!!!  Had to rub a little harder, but I liked it better than the chemical!
Ohh, Cetaphil, try their soap for dry and sensitive skin!
Wonderful products!
i take hair, skin & nails w/biotin.
